Flippy is the name of a red-footed tortoise who came from CA and now resides in WV. He is a cute, sassy, tortoise who likes to relax and not be bothered. However, he loves attention when he wants it, which is why we think he flips over on purpose when he needs attention.

Redfoot tortoise require a very particular climate. Having the proper terrarium in both locations would be best. That said tortoise are easily stressed, and regular relocation can stress them out, so plan accordingly and possibly think of perhaps a sitter instead of relocation.

I had to change my substrate to a different type or mix soil with a more rounded wood chips because some of the chips would get very close to splintering and piercing in between the legs. They get stuck there. Also some of the shavings would be so thinned out and saw it get stuck in the eye similar to the problem with having long eye lashes in my own case. But that substrate seems to work with most owners but I cant take the chance again after seeing it with mine.
I'm sorry to hear you had those issues with forest floor. It sounds like maybe it was getting to dry, perhaps. Either way, I'm glad you found a solution.
