There's so much I could say about this video, but I can sum it up with one word Fantastic. Such an amazing paddle with lots of beautiful views and great information too. You're so lucky to get to see that aircraft carrier so close, and the ferry was awesome to see up close too. Very nice of them workmen to let you have a look around the lighthouse that was very interesting. All the way through the video I was thinking where's the seal's and just as I had given up One popped up to say hi. Looking forward to your next adventure.
Hi Bob, Peter here from Aus. I am an avid follower of your adventures. I particularly like the way you use a single camera to great effect. I appreciate the fact that you are happy to kayak solo on some of your adventures. I know how difficult it is to find paddles buddies after retirement. Mostly they are doing anything but participating in ""risky"adventures"". Loved seeing the Firth of Forth bridge from your angle. A beautiful structure I have only observed via Michael Portillo's rail journeys. Thanks so much for the opportunity to see more of the kayaking destination of my dreams. Scotland, and in particular the inner Hebrides.
Hi Peter, thanks for the kind comments. Sometimes I prefer to Kayak solo, sea kayakers can be a very strange bunch🤣 I have to agree, the Hebrides, both inner and outer are amazing
Another great video Bob. I have yet to go over the New Bridge, as the last time I went over the Fourth was when the Queensferry Bridge was being built. We were stopped in traffic and could see them bringing in a span of the bridge. Sadly wasn't there long enough to see it put into position. I did try last year to go over it, but cocked up and ended up Glasgow way instead, on our way to Oban to camp for the night before heading on to Mull.
I have had several nights casting your adventures to my TV. Wow I didn't know how good the kayaking was around Sky. Rum, I visited 46 years ago on the Captain Scott Schooner, camping at Dibidil bothy. This didn't come has a surprise because i knew how stunning the place is. The sea cliffs at the southern end of your Outer Hebrides trip are something else. Love your vlogs, far better than David Attenborough
Hello Bob, I saw in your fantastic videos (thank you) that you park in Oban right on the water at the main thoroughfare. I am going paddling in this area soon and would like to ask you if you think it is OK/advisable to park a car there for 2 to 4 weeks? Many thanks!
Hi, which video was that from? I have a couple where we paddle out from Oban and we used different car parks. Probably neither are suitable for long term parking. My other suggestion would be the Puffin dive centre, you can leave a vehicle there for a small ish fee I believe
@marcusdemuth3154 no problem😅 yes I think it would be fine to leave the car at Mallaig. There seems to be plenty of parking along the harbour front that would be OK for a long trip. Cheers
Looks like you're paddling in tea. I will admit to looking a similar streams while tramping here. The 3 hour slog with a pack puts me off taking a yak in.
Gobsmacked Bob. Scared the bejesus out of me watching you tackle such a challenging downhill run. Great skill displayed and explains your confidence in your many fantastic sea kayaking adventures. I know know why white water was never for me. .... Peter
This was the run that was pushing the limmits, the story of my me and Cauldron snout...ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-JAXrs7PKRY4.html
Bob, really enjoyed your Small Isles videos. I would be interested to know more about how you film, particularly on the water, as the images are coming out great. My wife and I have been paddling for just a few years now, so hope to do this trip eventually. Thanks Adrian
Thank you. It's a cracking trip you will enjoy it I'm sure. I use a Gopro9. I use a mouth mount on the water. Allows easy access to stop/start etc , gives a fairly natural view and allows panning while paddling to get a more varied and interesting view. Cheers
That must have been the White Water version of Pinball, and you were the ball. Absolutely nuts! Some good saves. If that would have been me, I would’ve been out the boat in no time.
That was spectacular to watch. But I'm glad you choose the lowest point because if you had have gone of the top I would have called you crazy. Awesome video shows real skill.
Hi. I'm not sure what make it is my wife bought it for me. I know there are a few outdoor places sell very similar, Gooutdoors have them. The ski feet on it are home made, they stop it sinking into soft ground and make a huge different to the functionality. A few the ones you can buy come with a fabric base that clips into the legs, which does the same job, its definitely worth getting on of these.
Hi, this trip we left the trollys at the slipway, no need to hide them, there is no crime here😁 when I did the Eigg & Muck solo trip I took it with me and used it up and down the beaches. I can get the wheels in front of my feet, in otherwise fairly dead space, and just strap the frame to the rear deck
Well thank you😁 I used to live in Falmouth many moons ago, I used to surf in those days, I've not been back since, about 30 years ago!, I'm probably overdue a visit😂
Your video's always make me feel like i'm right there in the moment. I have a few questions if you don't mind... - do you ever encounter sharks. -How would you rate your tent. -What material is your kayak made of. Thanks again for all these great video's.
Thank you.😁 unfortunately, I've yet to encounter a Basking Shark, but I know they are in the areas we paddle.... I love my tent, A Berghaus Cairngorm 2 man, lots of good space for a tent that's not too big... my boat is Carbon Kevlar construction, nice and light for lifting on my car! Cheers
Cool video in Cool conditions! We did a circumnavigation of Lismore last August ,a lot warmer but not as calm near the lighthouse! The colder weather certainly gives clearer views 👌
Spectacular paddle - though the two of you managed the cold is humbling. I even felt the chill in the light you captured on Day 1 - yeah I’m beginning to warm up now 🤣
I'm fairly new to kayaking but I have been a surfer for over 50yrs now. I know how much motivation it takes to get in the sea in the middle of winter. Camping as well! That was hard core, nice one. You've inspired me to get of my backside and get out there! 👍
Thank you 😁 it's never too cold!! But sometimes you only realise you've had fun when your back home🤣... but this trip was fine, just a bit chilly at night
Fantastic video! What a great winter conditions. Loved those camp spots.. Something I would love to get to in future. Sea kayak looks like brilliant thing to explore those islands but I would need to take my two dogs with me so I think I will go for pack raft at this stage of my life. Do you think pack raft is something just to cross the shorts distances on water or can someone attempt bigger trip like you do on it? Thanks Jonas
Thank you. I'm not sure about a pack raft, I have no experience of such things, but yea, sea kayaks are great for such explorations, but no use with a dog!
