I think the translation of the name is done by something like google translate 😅 So, "slagboom" (also called a "sluitboom" or "grensboom" sometimes and very occasionally shortened to just "boom") is a specific thing that in English is also called a boom barrier (the boom bit is a loanword that English took from Dutch which is why it's so similar), it's the thing that opens and closes at for example a train track crossing, a single beam of wood, or metal these days, that is meant to stop vehicles from crossing or entering places. It used to be a single straight tree (not too thick) that could swing open (sometimes horizontally, sometimes vertically), hence the "boom" (tree) part of the word. I suspect someone who didn't really understand Dutch (or maybe English) put the word "slag" through google translate, and ended up with warp somehow. "Slag" can mean a lot of things, strike, hit, type, sort, battle, etc and it's also used in a lot of expressions where the meaning of the word is different every time. In the case of "slagboom", it refers to the motion, as in, it swings up and down, like a hammer strike. "Sluit" means close, so that makes "sluitboom" a piece of wood used to close something, similar to a door, and when placed at a border (between countries, cities, farmland etc) it's referred to as a "grensboom" because "grens" means border. So "boom" can mean both tree and road barrier/boom barrier in certain contexts, and as a name could refer to "from/of the tree" or "from/of the road barrier". In the latter case it could refer to someone who works or lives at a place with a road barrier in the form of a "slagboom", so something like a toll road is an option, maybe. (Ten Boom means at the tree, because "te/ten" is the old fashioned word for at.) So while technically yes, the name could refer to boom barriers/road barriers, it's less likely than the topographical name, those are very common in the Netherlands, mine is too. It's more likely just to refer to a tree or woods than anything else. Anyway, all of this to say, sadly, the name isn't related to any kind of light beam or warp beam or anything. 😁 No connection to the white light from the mill. William and Aldous are called James's uncles in the game, we don't know who James's parents were. So the heart was from the uncle. The elixer had as a warning/description that it will bring sudden death or eternal life. You can take that to mean many things, for example, if it works it will bring eternal life, but if you make a mistake it's death. And I assume James thought something like that, but you can also take that to mean, it will bring death half the time, and eternal life the other half of the time, or it will bring life and then death, and then life again, etc in a cycle. James died immediately, but the dog didn't... Emma's letter can be interpreted as a goodbye, to her son but also the rest of the family, since she thinks Frank is dead she might also just have written the letter as a personal kind of ritual, like a prayer. Many people talk or write to their dead family members in some way. 😊 There are two people there when Emma is painting, Emma herself, and you as the player...

One thing i love about how you play is that you cross check the timeline, like when there are events at the hotel or other parts of the family tree, and you keep so much lore detail in mind! I think it makes for a richer experience for you! You're seeing a lot more of the story and the layers and references to other games that most people don't on a first playthrough. 💖 Also your analysis of the characters' faces to determine genetics is amazing! Vanderboom, or properly spelled Van der Boom in Dutch, means of/from the tree. So a pretty deterministic name. 😁 And how it connects to other games, you already made the connection between Mr Crow and Aldous Vanderboom. I may seem like a wiseguy here, but my own playthrough was a complete mess. Obviously I fell for the Maba thing. I solved a lot of people quickly, but then didn't notice the language changing in the illness scene and got the Russians mixed with the Indians, confusing myself for hours. I got the bad ending first, which solved the African group for me, along with the gunner's mate (his Polish voice actor showed up in the credits) I solved the Chinese, the Indians, the brothers and a the last seamen mostly through trial and error. Then got stuck on the Formosans because I inserted the mermaids as 'foreign enemy' Finally I identified the head steward as "guy in a steward suit that looks Indian" but ended up giving up on his death - the sound clue sounded nothing like a gunshot, and I couldn't figure out how he died.

The Indians can all be identified in the illness scene because they sleep together. You have one that's just dying, with a hammock number. One sick in his hammock with a number. One out of his hammock, with a number. And one in his hammock with an X, but it's the last number you're missing. (I think he was given an X because he couldn't read - the doctor said the other two guys were from a 'lascar house' - it was a place where the British could get cheap foreign workers.)

Henry had the watch. He couldn't get through the door, so he killed the monkey to put a 'death scene' in the lazarette, so he could look from the inside.

The bald man being another version of Dale is not a theory I had heard before, I'm pretty sure he's in other games as well. The white rabbit was also in Hotel, in Mr Rabbit's room you can sometimes see the corrupted white rabbit outside his window and the corrupted soul in the class containers at the end also wears the white rabbit mask/face. It's unsure if he is the same rabbit as the one you kill for his meat or not. I really like Roots, so I'll be looking forward to your videos! The game takes place over a long time, so it helps to make sure you've got the events in the right order in your head to follow the plot. You can play the events out of order, so making a timeline can help.

I really love your theories! It's really interesting what you understand and can extrapolate from really limited information. The cake was about getting a single candle on each slice, as soon as a candle was isolated it lit up. You did have a maximum of 4 lines, so I don't know if you misclicked or something. I'm pretty sure Harvey's box takes place as Laura takes Harvey with her when she goes to the lake. Which implies that the corrupted soul (who may or may not also be Laura as well as Laura's killer) also wanted to kill Harvey. And now the question is, did you change the actual past, or did you change Dale's memories...

Can't wait for you to find out why Mr.deer seemingly researching the hotel and the lake... he he. Edit: And as I said, all the codes and stuff is very explicit about being a code that is meant to be used in a different game otherwise all the games are standalone experiences. Also, I don't think Harvey's ray of light and Dale's ray of light are meant to be the same or happen in the same time. The murderer rabbit can't be Dale because you are playing as Dale(although that may be a possibility as it involves time travelling). The confusing part to me is how Harvey is Dale's friend and writing him letter while the transformation into true parrot Harvey happens in 1894 at the end of hotel.

my hypothesis is that The mill and case 23 are happening at the same time. Although you are definitely onto something about the time being funky in the lake. Every single time we have heard that reversed robotic voice used, it has always been associated with, what we now know as corrupted souls. And you have figured out there are many corrupted souls. So the most likely player of the mill is another corrupted soul. It can't be Mr.Owl because we know his voice and we look at him out of the window. Also it can't be Mr.crow because at some point he went to pick up Dale in Case 23 As for why would a corrupted soul be there in Mr.crow and Mrs.crow's home, the mill? I assume its like a servent? And about the lady corrupted soul, I think it belongs to the Blonde lady. And during the memory extraction process something went wrong. And if you remember from Seasons, who did Harvey the parrot belong to again? 😉

I know you are way further along on your journey now, and might have already realised it, but the games are not as interdependent as you think. For example, sharing passwords between games and stuff, or needing info from other games to solve a puzzles. And if they are, then most likely, its bonus content or acheivements. All the games can be experienced as standalone experiences. Where they are connected are the themes, characters and several shared assets. Nothing more than that.
