probably a little late on the response but i found that the perfect gear ratio for 1/4 mile racing is to use a vr6 transmission with its 1 through 5 gears and a 4.2 ring and pinion from a 2.0 jetta transmision. 4th gear tops out at 135 mph at 7500 rpms with that combo so you can use all 4 gears to their max potential within 1320 feet. you have to swap the vr6 bell housing with the 2.0 bell housing so it will bolt up to the 1.8t.
Those 15x8 inch wheels are a legit set up. I drag race my gti mk4 and i did the math on the tire size with the gear ratio of the 02j trans and 24.1 to 24.5 inches diameter tire on an 8 inch wide wheel is the best set up. That will get your car to almost tap out 3rd gear at the end of the 1/4 mile. I know this for sure. I drag race every wed. Im running 17x8s with 235 45s and its a little to tall of a gear but on my all stock set up im able to hit 14.5 seconds in the 1/4 mile with a 2.1 60ft launch all stock. Your new 15 x 8 inch set up is a legit set up. And those mh tires are super forgiving and sticky for sure. Nice set up! I will be getting that same set of wheels and tires soon.
@@mxz700MN what turbo? I’m running the Garrett series GT3071r and I’m making around 450+ and I think that’s on stock rods. I’m not too for sure. I haven’t pulled the block a part yet.
I'm a Mark 4 guy! I have an ALH TDI and I'm almost done getting my 1.8 t working perfectly again. I put a lot of work into it and I can't wait to drive it. Always been my dream car Love the channel keep it up
@@FiglioBastardo for us normal folks it's a journey that requires patience lol I'm glad for my ALH, I have it mildly upgraded but not a lot so that it stays reliable. A vnt17 but when I put injectors in I went with stock because it's already pretty quick and I don't want to blow it up it has 370,000 mi on it. All the important things are new suspension steering brakes but I'm glad it's so reliable so I can keep pouring money into the 1.8 lol
@@jimlee7317 Fire me up! Yeah mine has 329k on her right now. Honestly with mileage like ours the engine is good for another 300-500k even with upgrades. We're putting the doka17 on mine with fratelli bosio 7 holes until I do the whole Audi S3 radiator/intercooler/oil cooler upgrade, then it's to the moon baby! We're thinking about doing a compound or bi-turbo turbo set up. 🤣
I got a few pics posted on my community page of the wife's old Jetta that is now been Smyth Ute converted. It'll be ready for some summer cruising this year finally. No, I'd never do this again as I've tallied up over 1000hrs in the last 3yrs, but probably half of that is the real work.
If it was just that the bumper skin was removed ,and you hung the side marker lights back on and kept the actual bumper ,it would be legit. Might be ugly that way to some ,but it's fine. Same with the old myth about riding without a hood ,that's a myth. And if ya wanna get silly, doors are overrated too and that's what seat belts are for.
Miss these uploads hope your good man I had a jetta I was planning to build paid 300$ for it 1.8t put a motor in it and had to sell it for the family im better at building cars then keeping a job i just hate some people
