Ну, что шикарные спец. щипцы. ЗАМЕЧАТЕЛЬНОЕ ИЗГОТОВЛЕНИЕ. Все скупо выверено, ничего лишнего в движениях... Красота! СПАСИБО!

Oh! You're the master of "coupled" things! For me it is a hard challenge -- to make something from metal twice the same.

Yes, this one area where I do pretty well and so maybe that's why tongs are my thing. Everything else, not so much. Thanks.

After I make a pair in a video I always think I could have done better. I guess if I ever make that perfect tong it will be time to call it quits! Thanks Robert.

Another fine looking tong, I like the depression in the jaw. Nice Glen.

Glen, It is amazing how well the farrier tongs hold the size stock they are made for. Never owned a pair till I got the pair you made me. Didn't know what I've been missing. Great video!

Hi John, if holding stock that the tongs are sized for, yes, I feel this farrier flat style is better than most. Now I always feel like I can do better after watching my own videos so more to come. Thanks.

Hi Glen, I enjoyed your section on alignment of the tongs, bringing them into sizing for use. This will help on the set of tongs I am working on. Thanks for sharing. 👍

Glad you can glean anything from this video. Sizing tongs can be pretty tricky depending on the style. Thanks Robert.

Excellent. Comment a bit about how much to set back the rivet to increase either the thickness or width of bar stock. It is not uncommon to use 5/16th by ¾ on saddle horses. 3/8s by 1 (or wider) for heavy horses. Your method of punching the rivet holes through the full thickness of round stock allows strong tongs to be make from relatively light stock. A marvel.

Hi Ken, I started to get away from "how to" tong videos where I explain in depth about my process / give measurements. I'll have to maybe get back to this. The river placement varies from style to style but I try to keep it close to the jaws for this farrier flat style - about 5/16" back from the jaw offset. Thanks.

Hello, Glen. I like your videos a lot. Especially when it comes to jigs that you made, you are in genius class for sure. When I grow up (I'm 44 btw) I would like to reach your tidiness and accuracy level in forging. Keep fooling around 😁

Hi Glen, you use and make very stout but to me short tongs, is that your style and or preference and better for you as your sitting in front of the anvil rather than standing next to it to forge? Also love the bonehead logo very cool. Thanks for sharing what you do.
@gstongs
@gstongs 7 месяцев назад
Yes, absolutely. Because I sit, longer tongs are not the best as they hit my leg. But that aside, I just prefer shorter forging tongs since they are easier to manipulate though not the best for getting smaller pieces in and out of the forge. Thanks.

I've never made a pair of farriers tongs. You have to be licensed to buy farriers tools here so its never really come up. I can honestly say I have never used a pair either ...I wonder what makes them so good for holding horse shoes?
@gstongs
@gstongs 7 месяцев назад
I think the small surface area of the jaws makes them exert more pressure. It seems odd to me that you have to be licensed to buy farrier tools but maybe they don't want inexperienced guys messing around with horses. Thanks.

@@gstongs I hadn't thought of that thanks Glen , the raised ring on the bit must be the key, I'll give a pair a go sometime. My mentor said getting one nail 1/8" out of place could cripple a horse and mean it had to be put down so yes thats the reason here in the UK. He showed me how to clean a hoof properly but that was all he would ever do on the subject. I wish I could have learnt more from the guy but when parents move house you don't have too much choice in the matter ...meh!!

What size stock is this tong best for holding? My gamuts are great, but aren't the best for the 3/8 flat stock I'm using when making axes. I was thinking of getting a pair of your dragon jaw, maybe with a little V indentation on each jaw so I could still use them for some small rounds as well. You mentioned this style is your favorite for flats though so I thought I'd get your thoughts!
@gstongs
@gstongs 7 месяцев назад
Hi Matthew, for sure if you purely want to hold flats then I think this style is best. I wouldn't try to alter the jaw design from what it is. Adding a V may make it may hold small rounds but then it might not hold flats well enough. Just let me know... Thanks.
