I've always gotten my 1045 from one place, (which is irritatingly out of stock) and its always just worked well for whatever I bodge out of it. Really does need a decent soak time though at temperature on the thicker sections to cook it enough to harden in a water quench. But yeah the metal varies from the sources and 1045-50 probably doesn't get the quality control love from most manufacturers that it should.

I've really just had more mixed results with medium carbon, mainly 1050, than any other steel. Sometimes soft, sometimes hard like a bearing... Thanks for sharing.

Материал интересный, но заставка с черепом мерзкая, и назойливая, повторяется каждый раз. The material is interesting, but the skull screensaver is vile and annoying, repeated every time.
