The only drawback is that you need a midi template file to start with. email me at ctltech2@outlook.com and i will send you the midi template file. Yes this is possible. You will need to purchase "Bome Midi Translator Pro" which costs $63.00. This program will run in the background of the power point computer. It is basically a translator so you can translate keystrokes into midi messages or midi messages into keystrokes. You can set it up so that when it sees a keystroke to go to the next slide, it will send a midi message. Find it here: www.bome.com/products/miditranslator

Hello, I would like to ask if you can answer some questions about QLC. I would like to know if when you make a sequence, in what way the fader of that device can have priority. And on the other hand, knowing if there is any way when you go from one EFX to another, there is an option to put a time transition so that the change is not abrupt. Thanks in advance.
@edwardrichards7722
@edwardrichards7722 Месяц назад
Hello Question 1 - Priority Fader priority is determined by HTP and LTP. If you are using midi messages to change scenes on a particular fixture, it is best that you use buttons in a solo frame. In a solo frame only one button can be active at a time so the previous fader settings are cancelled. This would solve any priority issues. Question 2 - Fade In/Out Times If you are using buttons to trigger scenes and you want the scenes to fade in and out rather then jump immediately to the next scene then do this: 1.Go to the "functions" tab and select the "scene" that you would like to edit 2.Click on the "clock" icon and adjust the "fade in" and "fade out" time Now the scene will fade in/out when it is triggered. If you are doing a theater show, another alternative is to put your ques in a que list instead of buttons. Then use midi messages to advance through the que list. The fade in/out times in the cue list will determine how each scene is presented. Ed Richards

When the app first opens on your device, the settings page should be displayed. Here you can adjust OSC address, Layout choice and any other options. When you are in a layout, Tap on the white dot at the upper right of the screen. This will bring up the settings menu. If you are trying to load a new layout that you have downloaded, you need to put the OSC editor on your computer, open the new layout, then synchronize the layout to your device so it will appear in the list of layouts. Hello Eward, thank you very much for this detailed video. I have a question about it. I use an audio file with a length of 30 seconds for a show. While the audio file is playing, the colors of defined RGB spotlights are faded in. The show should stop at the end of the audio file, but the RGB spotlights should continue to light up in the color combination (not switch off again or be reset to the start state) until I start the next show. Is this possible in QLC+?
@edwardrichards7722
@edwardrichards7722 Месяц назад
Cannot be done in show editor but here is the work around: When you do some programming in show editor it creates a sequence file. Go to the "functions" tab and find the sequence that was created. Edit the sequence so that the final step duration is set to infinite so that it stays on. Put the audio file and the sequence file in a "Collection" making sure that the audio file is the last entry in the collection. Now you can assign the collection to a button (or cuelist) and it will play back the audio file and sequence together. Ed Richards

Hey Ed. I was playing around with some different things in QLC+. I'm trying to get it to where I can have a wipe across the stage (example: 4 par cans are purple. Then when I push a button, the left most light turns green, then the middle left, then the right middle, then the right side one, in quick succession, say 100-300ms apart). I was playing around with solo boxes, LTP and HTP, sequences and matrix's, chasers, everything I could think of, and I couldn't get things to go the way I wanted. The closest I could get, the lights ended up turning yellow from both of the colours mixing together. When that didn't happen, once the green button was toggled all the lights on the right side went off, when I was hoping they would each stay on purple until it was that light's turn to change to green. I'm trying to make a virtual console setup for busking with a midi controller, so I can't manually put the purple into the other lights on the right until they change, because the colour may not always be purple, it might be red, blue, yellow, etc. Any advice on how to do this?

Hi, quick question how can you send a OSC message from QLC to a console?
@edwardrichards7722
@edwardrichards7722 2 месяца назад
Hello I am a little confused by your question. QLC+ is a software lighting console so why would you need to send OSC commands to a hardware lighting console? If you want to send OSC commands to a hardware lighting console then you need to use show control software. QLC+ does understand OSC commands and it can send OSC feedback. For example: Using the "Touch OSC" app, I can design a remote interface that will send OSC messages to my computer running the QLC+ lighting software and so control various widgets in my QLC+ Virtual Console. These widgets can send feedback to the "Touch OSC" app to reflect whether they have been activated or changed. So a fader on my Touch OSC layout would be able to move a fader in my QLC+ virtual console. Also, if I move that fader in my virtual console, it would send a feedback message to my Touch OSC layout and so move that fader. Hope this makes sense? Ed Richards

Hello I recently did a video for a subscriber showing how to use Reaper (DAW) to send midi messages to lighting software (QLC+). See if this video helps: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-jl6cTXSvrjY.html You could also create a midi file in a DAW, export it and then use show control software to send that midi file and control other software or hardware. I prefer the show control avenue because I am primarily a theater tech. Many other people simply use a DAW like Ableton to play back accompaniment tracks for a band and also send midi messages to presentation or lighting software. Many church groups are doing this. Some lighting software/hardware accepts midi messages natively. To control presentation software (ie; PowerPoint) you will need a 3rd party program that can translate midi messages to keystrokes. See my video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-QXOJ6AYCjd4.html Hope this helps. Ed Richards

@edwardrichards7722
@edwardrichards7722 2 месяца назад
Hello When I did community theater I was using Microsoft PowerPoint. There were some issues with PowerPoint the main one being that it preferred video files that were in native windows format. (files with the .wmv suffix) Also it would sometimes balk at playing a slide with a video sequence out of order. Now that I am retired and more miserly, I use Apache Open Office. Their presentation program is called "Impress". It seems to work very well at video and still image slides. www.openoffice.org/download/index.html As projection becomes more and more important to theatrical productions, I have been looking into some ways to do projection mapping on a budget. I have found an open source program that allows you to do this and natively accepts midi messages so you can integrate it into your show control setup. The program is VPT8 which stands for Video Projection Tool version 8. The only downside is it has a steep learning curve and there are not a lot of tutorials available. You can find the program here: hcgilje.wordpress.com/vpt/ I hope to make some tutorials for it in the near future. Ed Richards

MultiPlay will send Note On commands multiple times with no Note Off command. Is the requirement for the interleaved Note Off commands due to the lighting software you're using?
@edwardrichards7722
@edwardrichards7722 2 месяца назад
Hello Yes, you are correct that Multiplay will send Note On commands multiple times without a note off command but here is the issue: The receiving hardware or software may not accept the repeated instance of the Note On command. For example: I send a C4 Note On Midi message to my laptop running my slide presentation software and it translates to a spacebar press which advances to the next slide. All seems to work fine until I send the C4 Midi message again and it doesn't work. The reason it doesn't work is because the laptop software sees that note as already being On so it ignores the message. In order to send the command repeatedly I need to follow the "Note On" message with a "Note Off" message. Think of it this way: If I am playing a musical keyboard in order to play a note many times I need to press then lift my finger from the key each time I play the note. When you lift your finger that generates a "Note Off" message. Some software/hardware may function without the "Note Off" message but I include it just in case.

Hello The simple desk does not reflect or follow the light settings in the Virtual Console or Functions tab. Actually, the Simple Desk overrides the settings on these pages so you need to clear out any simple desk settings before you program scenes in the functions tab or before you use your Virtual Console page. Go to the "Simple Desk" tab and click on the "X" at the top left of the screen. This resets all "Simple Desk" faders to 0. Some of the downloads you find on the web work, some do not. Here is the latest info that I have.... I did a bit of research on Magic 3D Easy View so here is what I found. You can download a working version of Magic 3 D Easy View Here: magic-3d-easyview.software.informer.com/download/ A couple of notes: When I was installing this my antivirus software flagged it for unknown files and I had to click “allow” in order for it to install. It looks like a false positive since I have had no virus issues when running the software. I would recommend restarting your computer after install. Make sure you have QLC+ set to output ArtNet Universe 1 with the address of your computer if you are running both programs on the same computer. For example mine is set to output Universe 1 ArtNet 10.0.0.25 Make sure you select ArtNet when starting Magic 3D EasyView and set up your universes. If it doesn’t work the first time, close the software and reboot the program. Some people are having trouble accessing the artnet. I found this info on the QLC+ Blog: I struggled quite some time on getting the Art-Net to work on ALL my computers. On some it did work right away, on other: no luck. What seemed to be the problem: multiple network interfaces! When I disabled my VMWare virtual network interfaces (and therefore had a system with just one network interface), I was able to use Art-Net in Magic 3D Easy View. So: make sure your computer has only one (enabled) network interface, and you should be able to use Art-Net. I would make sure that you uninstall the current version of the program before installing this version. The program will say DEMO but most features will function without limits. The Full version of the program is no longer available. Best Wishes Ed Richards

I published this latest tutorial because there are some old school theater techs out there that find the whole subject of DAWs to be too intimidating. Coming from a teaching background, I like to give people options. That being said, there are a lot of people using Ableton to create accompaniment tracks and control lighting particularly in the case of worship groups. Lots of RU-vid videos on that subject.

Very interesting, I've never really researched Midi before. Couldn't you also accomplish this by making a chaser (or sequence) for the song itself and putting it inside your main chaser in QLC+? That way you fire the Midi command to activate the next cue which is the chaser (or sequence) and the chaser (sequence) takes care of the timing for the lighting automatically. Then it's only one cue for Multiplay. I guess it's a case of many ways to get a job done.
@edwardrichards7722
@edwardrichards7722 3 месяца назад
Hi Matthew Yes you are correct. You could set up a chaser in QLC+ with the timing required to sync up with your audio cue. Reducing the number of cues in Multiplay is also a good idea so that the operator is not confused by a lot of extra cues. If you have a chance, take a look at my CSC Show Control tutorials. The thing I liked about CSC Show Control is that one cue could contain multiple audio, midi or OSC cues. That information was hidden from the operator so all they would see is a single cue. I used it for Middle School shows when I had a middle school student firing the cues. The only downside is that the LE version of CSC will cost about $130.00 but that is a permanent license. For several reasons CSC was my go to show control program. Ed Richards

Thanks for the overview. I've recently used Multiplay 3.0 for an easy play, just some sound cues, and it worked perfectly. Not overly difficult as I was able to figure auto advancing, fading, and stopping cues on my own but certainly not something that's "newbie proof". I look forward to your future videos on it to learn more. I'm also a user of QLC+ and am trying to get my second community theater to make the switch (they run an old multiplex system) and will look forward to using these two programs together as they often rely on a cast member's family or a friend to run cues during a show. Much easier if you can just have them press a space bar when the script tells them to!

@edwardrichards7722
@edwardrichards7722 3 месяца назад
Hello How you set your matrix display in QLC+ depends on how you plan to arrange your pixel tape. You have to choose how many rows and how many columns. The number of total pixels in the row/column setup has to be equal to the number of Leds in your pixel strip. You also have to choose how you are going to arrange the tape strip - snake or zig-zag. I explain all of that in the video. You cannot use RGB tape with a pixel decoder. RGB Led tape has 4 connections: Red, Green, Blue & Ground. RGB tape also is either 12 volt or 24 volt. Why not use the audio trigger feature of qlc Plus instead of MIDI?
@edwardrichards7722
@edwardrichards7722 3 месяца назад
So the audio trigger feature of QLC+ works great if you are a DJ. However, I am mostly doing theater productions so I need specific timing points at which the lighting will synchronize with the audio track. It may not be at every hit point in the music but only specific ones. That decision is based upon what I design in coordination with the show producer and director.

Hey! I love the videos, I volunteer for a local am-dram group and hall and your channel has helped me go digital for music and SFX using multiplay. Would the midi cue in multiplay not be able to fire the playlist in qlight controller and time the lights in Qlight controller?
@edwardrichards7722
@edwardrichards7722 3 месяца назад
Hi Carl Absolutely you can just use the midi commands to activate the "next" button in a QLC+ cue list. Just remember that in order to press the "next" button repeatedly, you need to include both a "Note On" and a "Note Off" command. Think of it as pressing a key on a musical keyboard. You press the key to sound the note then lift your finger off the key so that you can play it again. Remember that you cannot use Multiplay "Midi Cues" and "Midi Music Cues" going to the same software/hardware. The "Midi Music Cues" will stop working and freeze up. It is a bug they are trying to work out in the software. I use the "Midi Music Cues" when I am synchronizing multiple lighting cues with a single audio file. Just stick with the "Midi Cues" and you should be fine. Take a look at my tutorial on how to use midi messages with QLC+ ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-OoRkQamAMdE.html The only difference is that you will be sending the Midi messages from Multiplay instead of a hardware midi controller. @edwardrichards7722 we run a show that is heavily music to set timings in lighting for example a 4 minute song could have about 20/30 light cues, something I'm currently working on is the cues and making the last cue as infinity then progressing to the next cue which is infinity again for the host talking between songs then the next cue will be timed to the song so it's theoretically a massive cue list.

Thank you Edward for your interesting tutorial. I am also involved in community theatre and have used SCS (Show Cue Systems) for years for sound and lighting. It is exceptional software for sound but if the lighting plot gets complicated it is difficult to manage on SCS thus the interest in QLC+. I am sending OSC commands to QLC+ from SCS and I know they are reaching QLC+ as the packets are being received but they do not register on the profile I have set up. I am obviously not sending the commands properly. I have tried the "/page1/start" command without success. I may not have the QLC+ page set up properly. Any help would be grateful.

Hello. I did some investigating and the problem seems to be with the format of the SCS OSC message. I used a OSC monitor program and sent an OSC message from the following show control software: CSC Show Control, Multiplay 3.0 and the demo version of Show Cue Systems. The OSC message I sent was /page1/button1 1.0 When I sent the message from CSC Show Control or Multiplay 3.0 the OSC Monitor shows me this - /page1/button1, 1f The"f" stands for float since I sent a decimal data value When I send the same message from Show Cue System the OSC Monitor shows me this - /page1/button1 1.0 Notice the missing comma separator and it doesn't indicate "1f" even though I sent a decimal data value I know that QLC+ does respond to the OSC message from CSC Show Control and Multiplay 3.0 I will send an email to the folks at Show Cue Systems to see if they have an answer to this. Meanwhile: You could use SCS to send Midi Note On/Off messages to QLC+ and control it that way. Good news!! The folks at SCS gave me a solution. You need to use a specific syntax in your OSC message for example: /page1/button1 ,f 1 or /page1/button1 ,f 1.0 make sure there is a space after the locator (/page1/button1) then type ,f (comma f) then a space and either 1 or 1.0 I made a quick video for you to make sure you have everything correct ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-30e8rB-xSbA.html This should work Ed Richards

Hello Unfortunately they are no longer selling this software and the free version they offer online does not do video files. Here are some alternatives: Show Cue Systems standard and pro edition software does support video files. The standard version is priced at $100.00. www.showcuesystems.com/cms/ Multiplay show control software recently has reappeared as a free open source alternative thanks to some software developers. It is still in Beta form but very usable. I have not tried the video version but you can download it here: da-share.com/forum/index.php Click on “News/Releases” then click on “Latest Version (with download links)” Read carefully. There is a link to the version with video DLLs at the bottom of the post. Personally, I like to do my videos on a separate laptop using presentation software. I use Open Office Impress. You can find it here: www.openoffice.org/ Then I send OSC messages to the laptop using my show control software. SFX 6, Multiplay and Show Cue Systems can all send OSC messages. I have actually had a fair bit of success using QLC to playback audio. I have two audio tracks. With a single MP3 playing back at 0.0 seconds. That seems to work flawlessly as least in the last few versions I have tried it in. I use this for a Solo Singer using backing tracks. The backing track is one track. Then I have a second track which has the vocals in it. I use these so that when designing the lighting (in the other tracks) I can hear the entire song as the audience would hear it. When we go to shows I make sure the reference vocal track is muted. I play it back on a Rasberry PI 4 with the an HD Audio Hat (with two XLRs) to improve the audio quality.

I will have to take a look at it. My experience has been that sometimes the sound file would play back in time with the lighting changes. Other times there may be a one or two second delay. Could possibly be a windows thing? What are the specs of the computer you are running the QLC+ software on?

Yes, QLC+ will understand midi controller information. Create a knob (or slider) in the virtual console then assign it to the controller that you are sending the messages from. See my video about assigning controller knobs and buttons to VC widgets. This always works best if you create a profile for your midi controller. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-DDKXLsjCYEI.html Hope this helps Ed Richards

Some downloads of this program do not work. See my notes Below.
