Watch an audio nerd ramble with unbridled enthusiasm. In this small corner of the cosmos you'll find reviews and impressions on all things hifi. Headphones, speakers, dacs, amps, and gaming gear. If it makes sound, we talk about it.
the way you deliver your thoughts is very easy to digest. I bought my maxwell because of you and what you said is what I get. I was wondering if you will be reviewing the HIFIMAN sundara.... I have been recommending KZ Castor to my friends because its cheap and the audio quality is really good.
I would be more than happy to review the Sundara. As soon as it goes on sale, or one is sent to me, I'll do just that. Just not in the budget at the moment.
sony bought audeze AND dolby atmos is free to use now in the sound settings! just though people want to know if they think having atmos is a dealbreaker or not. so it is definetly on the ps5 atleast, just ordered my maxwell hope this helps you guys in someway.
Oh nice you managed to get that champagne colored faceplate in your FA-10. I wish that was still an option. The blue option was what I got. Was great. I wiah they wouldnt use metal switch toggles for the buttons. The FluxLab Volot has actual push-in buttons that you dont need to worry about them metal rods breaking in shipping.
My hip dac-3 went from intermittently not working in Tidal to never working after playing a MQA audio track. I have to power off/on or un-plug/plug and it works again. Found they have a FW to disable MQA and after that everything works great other than not using the native MQA decode on the DAC.
It supports 3d audio, but is not 8 channel. Not to get too into it, but no headphone can really be 8 channel. That would require 4 separate drivers per ear 😅 If what you're really asking is if it is an immersive headphone, then yes. Definitely.
Thank you for the review. I’m puzzled by your experience with the Sony though. I own them and to my ear they deliver smooth, clear, separate, delightful bass. My impression of the Mezes is that their bass is not as marked as you describe it. Interesting.
I do want to quickly point out that these were never intended to be reviews of the headphones, but just first impressions of them. I can't say with any amount of certainty the accuracy of what I experience with headphones until I have them on my own, at home, control test bench. There are so many factory that may be affecting my experiences out in the showrooms, who know if they are truly representative of the headphones. Maybe the Z1R had damaged drivers, maybe the source wasn't ideal for them, maybe they were just really old. I have since this trip got myself a set of Sony MDRs and I really enjoy them, so maybe my impression will change for the Z1R if I get the chance to play with them at home.
Great sound but horrible design, especially the position of cable connector. On a heavier IEM it's quite important to use cable hook as support, cable on these provides no support whatsoever due to connector being a tad bit too high.
changing the earpads to a cooling memory foam variant is the BEST thing to do! Luckily I had the senneheiser GSP500/600 earcups before they were discontinued but Amazon has plenty of vendors that offer the same earpad. The STOCK EAR PADS on then open headphones are really bad!
I like the sony mdr 7506 the best with that said which is the most similar open back headphone thats like those? speaking purely on how it sounds i dont care about earpds or anything else just the sound
@@MasterMarslander It is a serial port. It evolved into firewire, and then USB. It is still used today as it is extremely reliable, substantially easier to program for, and is resistant to interference at practical lengths. It is still relatively common on commercial networking and manufacturing devices. Especially since it can adapt direct into USB very easily.
I love the MP145, but I have one major issue. The vocal tips and the bass tips are absolutely impossible to put on over the filters. I’ve never had this issue on any other IEMs, and even the balanced tips barely fit! Any tips for how to put them on?
Oh my gosh, I feel you, bud. I also have a difficult time with it. My method is to sort of pinch the tip so it's more oval shaped and scoop the nozzle in from the bottom. Kind of hard to explain, but that's really the best I can give you.
they lack 2 most important features for me. 1. parametric EQ to fix some dumb decision meking in my IEM (thanks campfire, your incompetence will remain in history) 2nd. a pleasent relaxed sound.
Yeah, you basically sacrifice a bit of intimacy in exchange for comfort and soundstage. If you can get a good seal though it should keep more to itself.
I need to know something, please. I get that XLR is not connected to the DSP. But can you please confirm if the DSP saves the profile on board? Like when you set a compressor in the bundled software then connect the microphone to a android phone, does it keep the setting?
The microphone does not save sound profiles to itself. Your sound profile would have to be saved on the software/device you are connecting it to, via phone or PC.
I much prefer this kinda of video over the overproduced cinematic stuff. I feel like this was just a person to person conversation about something we all love. And i definitely feel informed
Jt1s in game with suroound are by far the most amazing thing i ever used. Directionery sounds iminging and hight effects are mind blowing i want the ft3s but im more interested in the 32 ohm version
Fun fact, I somehow ended up here listening to comments about preassure on the head, cable too long etc. after watching a video about people who survive by eating from their local dump. What a contrast.
If you want to know what these headphones are all about listen to this Andreas Vollenweider Caverne magica. And there you have it it's magic for real :)
I have the original X1 (for 9 years now) still in good condition and haven't come across some other headphone that is playful engaging as the X1. I am sure there are headphones out there with better specs but for some unknown reason i always circle back to the X1. They are magic i tell you for real :)
Hey man . Received my Maxwells. Tested them and you were right for every aspect of your review. TBH ive ordered only based on your well detailed review. Thank a million! Best headphones ive ever got so far !
Jt1s are mind blowing good. I game and I'm comparing to hd599 hd560s atsros corsair hd65 and epos h6pro the h6pro and the jt1s are by far the best two iv sold the rest and yes the jt1s beat my hd599 560s at music they are so fun and full and loud
Great analogies, you mentioned the sound coming from behind your eyeballs before tubing it and I felt that. Definitely something to look out for even for a non-audiophile such as myself.
Owning FT5 myself for some time now and seeing all these polarizing reviews and comments I can only explain it that these headphones are source picky. I'm listening via EF500 and they sound amazing(!). EF500 is nothing fancy, a mid-range dac-amp I guess. But "hollow"? HF early cutoff? It is like we're listening to different headphones. Have you tried leather pads? I've tried suede and immediately switched back to leather ones, they sound much more detailed and... overall better. "something missing in the midrange" - I can agree, but to a small degree, especially if you listen to EDM, instrumental jazz. My FT5s shine there.
Very glad you enjoy them! I rad them on an A90D, so give it a clean as possible source. I did try the leather pads, and they do definitely offer more shimmer and shine in the high end that feels like more definition, but for the tracks I was listening to they were also making vocals overly shouty for my ears. I have an FT3 coming in soon that I'll do a direct comparison to the FT5, see how things might be different there.
I just bought a pair for my wife. She likes them. I cannot raise the volume. What I’m getting is tap on the right once i get a beep, if i keep tapping is as if there are 2 selections , standard and 1 notch up then reverts to standard. In other words no volume control ! Regards Rick, and thank you for a good honest review
I fixed these before looking at your video. I’m using a Lg G8, and the morphit plugin in USB audio player app made a HUGE difference by changing the frequencies. I have the target headphones set to Grado Sr325, and I had also stuffed the cans with sound acoustic foam.. and damn! So much better!! And only paid 50 bucks for them off Amazon! Also, they sell that same exact cable on Amazon, but it’s not made by Blon, so I’m guessing just like the head strap they have other companies parts.
Hahahaha! The only expensive part of this product is the ink used to write "made in USA" lol! Grado seems to make their headphones for maximum 30mins of usage at a time only. But they are cool when left hanging the neck. lol!
BY THE WAY, you do not need to dissasemble the cups from the headband, or even use any tools for this mod. The plastic retention ring for the grill just pops out with a long finger nail. 😆
We do Iem monitoring for concerts, studio, film, etc. The MP145 fits our budget line( $20-$150) and is also good enough for our high end roadcase. We have them in every color, including the Gold Special Edition. But, if they didn’t work for us sound wise we wouldn’t use them. They are the best planar( the only one) in our road gear. I personally have all of them in my personal case also. We work closely with Hidiz and use many of their iems live and in the film/recording studio. All the best Sonny T
S12 Pro punchy sub bass i would disagree with this statement while bass is pretty tight and good it's far from punchy but Letshuoer has an amazing Planar IEM with insane punchy Bass almost like Bass on Dynamic driver and that's S15 unfortunately it's very Overpriced but they sound amazing if you want Planar with amazing Bass S15 is exactly that
