It's definitely cheaper to make yourself. I bought all the supplies years ago and started making them myself. You can customize more to your liking as well.
I was unable to get the cap to break loose with my cheap spanner wrench, I tried a punch and hammer that didn't work either. I eventually heated the outside at the top to get it to break loose. I did not heat it enough to destroy the paint.
That bottom right plug is a check valve if you ever remove it you could loose the tiny spring and inside part of the check valve and they are no longer available. There is also a check valve on the back side of the unit exactly the same as the front one, one is for up the other is for down. I was able to find a balance point on the motor with the safety stand flipped down and was able to remove the top pin with a pair of pliers after I pulled out the split key. I used penetrating oil overnight and the bottom tapped out with no problem. Great video, was a great help to me.
Hi, subscribed! I have emailed you requesting your file. I was wondering how you’ve concluded that the rail is strong enough for the weight of the motor and force of the thrust? Any insights on how you got comfort there? Are these mount configurations universal or do you need a different configuration depending on the motor?
Hello! Thank you. Hopefully you got the files I emailed. That railing takes a lot of beating in general and I even hung on it some myself to see how it held up. I've had this trolling motor on here now for many years, with no signs of cracking, stress, or loosening. I've bumped into plenty of rocks and logs and used it quite a bit overall and had zero issues. For the mount itself, I added a quick change slider plate and those are universal typically. However, you can make the top plate whatever size works for you.
@kuoaid it is not a 90 degree angle. The bottom is angled inward some. The best way to find the angle I needed was to mock it up with a couple pieces of wood and measure the angle.
What size spanner wrench do I need ? Where can I purchase it ? I saw some on Amazon but wasn’t sure what size ? Any recommendations on the correct one ?
Very nice!....What trolling motor model is that?...54" shaft im guessing. battery location?...i have so many questions, I need to do this. thanks so much!
I use a 54" shaft and actually swap it back and forth with a quick change plate between my proline and whaler. The battery is under the front hatch (due to tight space, I am only using a 30amp-hour battery, but this lasts me 5-6hrs no problem for how I normally fish).
I have a 1997, 40 horse power Johnson, and mine is leaking at the top of the cap just like yours is but think my fluid is out cause it want move to much but you can hear the electrical part working so I am gonna do exactly the same way your replaced yours without removing the upper or lower pin. Seems alot quicker to me to do it exactly the way you did your reseal.
Hey mate good day. I've got the same problem with my Johson 70hp. I can't pull it out the same pin that you showed. Is it possible to do this way in all Johnson outboard motor? Thanks so much.
We were using 3/4 oz. I didn't state it in the video. With not much wind it didn't matter much. Heavier wind you have to go up in weight with the drift to keep it on the bottom. So, we could have even used 5/8 oz.
My 2 favorite jigging rods have Diawa REVROS LT 2000 reels and both rods are 6'0" Medium Fast rods (One is a Diawa Aird X and the other is a Shimano Sellus). These paired with braid and a fluorocarbon leader make it super easy to feel the bite.
Awesome trip Clouse! You guys whacked’em again! Love these vids! Appreciate you showing folks how our High Dollar Hair Jigs get the job done on those walleye 🎣🔨🔥🐍🙌

It could be the power pack but it could also be the stator. You can test the stator to see if it is producing power.....or you can just go ahead and replace each one by one until the problem is solved. You'll eventually fix the problem but it will cost a little more. In my opinion, it is good to go ahead and replace them both because they will both eventually go bad at some point and then you have fresh electronics in your engine.
Thanks Benji. Glad it helped. No, it was not necessary to release the manual release. Once the cap was unscrewed and there's no fluid, it just lifts out.
Thanks for this. Like mine, I notice when you are filling it with new oil, the unit is not exactly level as it is slightly at an angle with the transom. Does this matter as far as filling it with oil and getting as much as possible in there? I've tried to find a hill steep enough to get mine level when I'm filling it but haven't found one yet. I'm putting off changing these seals but I'm researching and buying the tools needed as I know it will need to be done at some point as it leaks at the top of the piston and the motor slowly seeps down. But for now it works enough to keep fishing.
You should be able to fill at different angles. Most important is cycling a bunch of times to self bleed. Just inspect every once in a while and if you don't see fluid sitting on top of the cylinder then you are probably OK. I kept seeing fluid after each trip and that's why I know I had to change the seals.
All the same areas should work in the winter that were fished the rest of the year, but will need to vertical jig rattle spoons, crappie jigs, blade baits. Tipped with wax worms, or a minnow on a treble hook jigged up and down. Sometimes they hang in the deeper spots too. It's all about timing.
Think it was great you released those critters. I know you keep some to eat, I do to. There are tons of people that fish there that keep everything, I've seen them , no ODNR people ever get out of truck to ever check size or amount... Ever! That's my home lake and it's a shame. Videos are great, keep them coming. Fish on brother.
I was fishing for saugeye at leibs island in the channel where the stream comes in. Just got a new st. Croix rod. Was there 10 minutes and already caught 2 small saugeye. Hooked into another small one and was almost to the bank when a pike grabbed it . I was so surprised at the sight of it ,I jerked my rod so hard it broke in half and I lost both fish. The damm pike was only maybe 2 foot long.... that sucked but I know what I saw. It was definitely a pike.
One of your best video's so far. Everything you were saying and going through was spot on.. Tight lines to you brother and Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours.
Thanks for the feedback. Was thinking for a couple years what to do and it hit me like a ton of bricks and I ran with it! Still works great to this day!
Love the colors on the firetiger gotta be one of my fav lures. Looks like you found a nice jig head to match. Couple questions. What jighead and where to you buy your lures/jigs
