About a week. It could have stayed longer, but I was already impressed by how clean the fleece was, although both fleeces retained a lot of lanolin. Very gentle on the fleece. I have finished dyeing spinning and knitting the Jacob fleece. I’m assuming (which is always trouble) that the longer the fleece stays in the water, the more lanolin will break down. Maybe…
I'm fascinated by this process. Thank you for your video! Came across two beautiful, but dirty fleeces that I had forgotten about. I'm trying this method to clean them both! Thank you.
Hi, I hope you're OK xx ❣️❣️❣️ I love your son's replacement Sweater. I'd have done the same for my sons too. My Spinning is the same as yours, I only remember afterwards that I should have kept a check on the yarn I wanted rather than the yarn I ended up with. It still gets used though. Happy Spinning and Knitting Fibre Friend 🎡🧶🐑🥰 Take care and stay safe Lots of love and Big Hugs Jen xxxx ❤️❤️❤️❤️🫂🫂🫂🫂⚘️⚘️
Big hugs back, Jen!! Hope you are also well. Spring is coming and I’ve been working in the garden. I hope your projects are humming along happily! Thank you for leaving me a note- I love hearing from you.
@@stonewallsfarm3105 Hi, Thankyou so much for the hugs.🫂🫂🫂 You're very welcome xx ❣️❣️❣️❣️ I hope you're OK xx ❣️❣️⚘️⚘️⚘️ I'm good thanks. My Spinning project is going better than my Knitting one. I'm glad that it feels like spring is coming for you our weather here in England has decided that winter is still lurking around. Temperature today with the wind chill is hovering at just above freezing. I hope all your projects are progressing smoothly. Happy Spinning and Dying Fibre Friend 🎡🎉🐑🥰 Hope you have a Wonderful Weekend ☀️🌞🌝 Take care and stay safe Lots of love and Big Hugs Jen xxxx ❤️❤️❤️❤️🫂🫂🫂🫂⚘️⚘️
You are so-o-o good to be working on One knitting and One spinning project!! Wish I had such discipline…. Still freezing here at night, but as I was lazy during autumn, I’m doing cleanup. Hope Spring arrives in your neighborhood soon - or at least as soon as normal! We usually get inches of (snow) in April. May you have gentle rain, warm sun, and bug-free vegetables and flowers. 🌸 🤗 hugs!!
@@stonewallsfarm3105 Hi, I hope you're OK ❣️❣️❣️❣️ I wouldn't say that I'm disciplined. I spin during the day ( not every day) and I then Knit at night. Ohhh, gosh I hope you don't get any snow in April and not much if you do.🌨 It's not unknown for it to snow here in April either. I hope your days are filled with sunshine and that its not too cold at night.🌞❄️ I hope your flowers are bug free as well ⚘️🌾 Happy Spinning and Knitting Fibre Friend 🎡🧶🐑🥰 Take care and stay safe...love and hugs Jen xxxx ❤️❤️❤️❤️🫂🫂🫂🫂🥰🥰
I like your thinking! I also do a lot of darning and noticed that weak area at the toe decreases. I was thinking on my next pair i would try a similar fix. I’m interested to see how it goes for you! Also, absolutely love the hand wash notice at the ball of the foot!! fantastic!!!
Darning is fun enough to do but it holes arrive when we least expect them, and the mending pile overfloweth before I get around to it. I’d love to hear how the toe idea works for you. I’m still procrastinating knitting that second sock. A science-y thought: maybe leave sock 2 unreinforced and same old toe. If I have to think about that, it’ll be another reason not to start sock 2!
I love that! So cool! I built a wood fire reflector oven in my teens, won a camp fire cooking competition with it in a regional scout camp. We cooked a full meal from scratch, including home made cake. But a solar oven is even better, no carbon emissions or energy costs whatsoever. That would be a solution for many people around the world.
I agree, solar ovens are great. This one is pricey but heats well and fast. I do love cooking over wood. Food tastes so good - of course when I’ve cooked over wood I’ve been hiking-hungry! I am thinking about a rocket stove, but that would only be kettle dyeing, right? Thanks again! :)
Nice, I still have 2 big bags of, it appears rather fine, Tarascon sheep wool and always thought of doing more than mulching with it, I will try it.. in front of the Pyrenees.
Mulching (raw fleece is perfect) and insulation (have to wash that) are the great back up uses for wool. (Of course the small scale wool producers, the farmers, lose money if they have to pay someone to process their wool). I don’t know Tarascon. It looks like a meat sheep. I herded in the French alps where the sheep have little wool. The wool was used for mattresses.
I always enjoy your videos of what you've been up to. It was my first TDF too and this is my first year of spinning so I had simple goals. I was on the FLD tour as well and my goals were to spin some everyday (did it!) and to read and post or comment on FB everyday in order to feel a part of things. I had to look at some instructional videos in order to figure out how to use FB! Accomplished the FB goal too. I'm not much of a joiner so this was harder than spinning 🙃. But I really did enjoy it a lot and I learned soooo much. Everyone is so very helpful and supportive. I'm just spinning on an EEW6 so that is a bit of a different learning curve. Spun up several braids I'd purchased and took a shot at chain plying (pathetic first try but instructive) and also made a fractal yarn though it turned out a heavier weight than I'd hoped because it was a 3 ply.
Wow Zoe! That’s so cool! You’ve done so much. Trish’s people are super nice. I’ve rarely run into a fiber person who wasn’t kind and helpful. We may be odd but we’re nice! :) My husband and I have run an art gallery since 1984, and banks always approached us with ‘you need bad check protection’ . In all those years we’ve never had a bad check. Same with fiber! Good people! I’ve never used an e spinner, but I hear only good things. Looks like it’s a good fit for you! Onward!!
Thank you for watching. I’ve been delinquent on the longer more focused videos - but they are coming! I promise. I hibernate in winter. Perfect for video editing! :)
I have to say, the yarn turned out to be one I need feel-a-vision for - super sleek and drapey, all 3! I was cleaning out studio/shop last week and ran across that ‘hat’. I think I like the yarns more now. But the color is still iffy! :) Thanks for watching!
Thank you! All these crafty terms are easier to show than to describe…. Using a short draw, you draft (pull out) about half the staple length (the length of the fiber strands) and let that bit twist up to where your fingers pinch down on the fiber and feed the bit onto the bobbin. With a long draw, you’d gently pull your fiber away from the wheel, maybe a few inches, maybe a couple of feet, and the twist travels up to your fiber. More control with short draw. Long draw spins up faster. …maybe. :)
I have spun dog fur in the past. Kind of depends on the nature of the fur - flexibility and length. I know of one Samoyed owner who learned to spin in order to make a Samoyed blanket! Might be your turn! :)
Ah! I had to look at the video to remember the sweater. Usually I’m wearing a design from Ravelry.com and I’m happy to share the designer. This time, it’s my design so (I’m sorry) I have no pattern to share. I call it a smock. It has a stranded colorwork placket, cuffs, shoulders and collar. The body is just a simple rectangle. I love the shape and wearability of older European work smocks - this isn’t as long. I thought I could get away with just knitting this sweater and not concerning myself with communicating the how-to…. Then my sister asked for one. Hers is dark charcoal and grey. Since I’ve knit it twice, I should go ahead and write it out. But then, you might not like the front! Thank you so much. Hopefully I’ll be getting back to you!
Ooooh, such beautiful yarn! And did I just spot another amazing sweater? I would love it if you would add alittle segment in each of your videos to tell a bit about what you are wearing. What pattern and what yarn did you use? I am guessing most of your sweaters are homespun too, and i'd love to hear more about your fiber choices too!
Good idea! I just looked back at the video…it’s my design, that I’ve knit twice and Still! not written as a pattern. I can tell you about the yarn. It is a sport weight from Maritime Family Fiber, a yarn co-op which serves small farms in New England and southeastern Canada. It’s a very wooly, rustic yarn. I love working with it - both to dye and knit! Thank you so much for watching and for your time to comment! Once the seasons bring me inside from the garden, I’ll put my nose to the grindstone and see if I can’t get it written up. Thank you!
Second of your videos I am watching, and for the second time I am completely smitten with the sweater you are wearing! I have to go through the rest of your videos, hoping I can find more information on the making of your colourwork sweaters! Thank you. Just subscribed, I am looking forward to see more!
Uh oh! Ailien, you’ve found another sweater I designed. :/ the yarn is Maritime Family Fiber. My husband wanted me to knit “tattooed” sleeves. He was disappointed. I wear this sweater as if it were a sweat shirt - it’s tough! Again, once the weather cools off and the garden dies back, I’ll give writing down patterns my best shot! Thank you!
Hi MaryKay! My husband is a fabulous doodler. Knitting is my doodling. Thank you for watching. My phone is full of parts of future videos. I hope you’ll join me for more doodle knitting! :)
Hello! I am for the first time here. I noticed you had a painting studio in the other room. I am a painter myself or so I think. I could not scream louder in my head: “ hello, mixing colors so thoroughly you will get mud! “ 😂 but I understood that getting a smoother chunk of fiber was more important plus we all learned a lesson from you “ intentional” experiment. I love your scarf ! I love your multitude of cool tools! Cheers in colors!
So sweet of you to say. I realize as I respond to your comment so late (10 days!?!?), that I am way behind in video editing. I have several more tries to show. But it’s summer here and the garden needs to be harvested and preserved every darned day! Thank you!
It’s a bit big for me. The up side of yarn, as compared to fabric, is that we can start over with all the yarn and make something completely different.
This sweater yarn has now become part of the Tour de Fleece. I’m fiber prepping as fast as I can, hoping to be ready for July 1. Maybe…???…I’ll have a sweater’s worth before the end of July? ….(and maybe not!)
My pet hate with blankets (in general) is there’s always a right and wrong side. What busy mother has time to make sure the right side is always showing 🤔 I tend to either do moss stitch or basketweave. Or, crochet.
Hi Fibre Friend, I hope you're OK ❣️❣️❣️ Love the colours of your Art Batt, whether its Art Yarn or not, it looks amazing and beautiful. 🌟🎉 I have trouble with my Niddy Noddy too and mine's also only a yard. I'm also a Knitter first and relatively new to the Spinning. Happy Blending and Spinning Fibre Friend 🎡🐑🥰🌼 Hope you have a Wonderful Weekend 🌞🌟☀️ Take care and stay safe Lots of love and Big Hugs Jen xxxx ❤️❤️❤️🫂🫂🫂🌼 My husband looks at me like I'm mad too 😊😊
Ha!! I love it! Our experience in fiber is all so similar. I must admit, the only thing I don’t like is discovering my stitch count is mysteriously off! And then I’m frogging back 6”!! Jen, have super weekend. Enjoy Father’s Day - looks like I’ll be knitting on the bank of a beautiful local river while The Old Man wades around catching fish. A good day. Hugs!!!
@@stonewallsfarm3105 Hi Fibre Friend, I hope you're having a Wonderful Day Knitting on the river bank. I hope your husband catches plenty of fish 🐠 Thankyou so much for the Heart ♥ Sending Heart ♥ back to you ❤️💞 We've just had a lovely visit from our eldest son. Our youngest son and family were supposed to be coming for tea for fathers day but unfortunately their toddler ( our youngest Grandson) has got chicken pox and didn't want to risk us getting shingles. (Unfortunately we're at that age).😆 Have a Wonderful Week ☀️🌞🌼 Take care, love and Big Hugs Jen xxxx ❤️❤️❤️🫂🫂🫂🌼
Couldn’t have done it without you!! Your laughter echoes in my head when I sit down with fiber. Hope you’re feeling super duper 100% top of the world!! Thank you!😘
Sure. I’d be happy to. I might even not make mistakes!! A friend just unloaded her stash of 10 lbs of llama on my studio floor. I should have ample opportunity to get that video done! :) Thank you!!
First time to your channel and I just love ya! Hat looks wonderful, just let the brim roll. I am knitting a hap with Cotswold yarn from Pender Island Farm up in British Columbia and it is a joy to work with and has a beautiful halo as you mentioned. So springy, you can feel the life in it. Thank you for making me laugh
Hi Debbie! I'm so happy that I've made you laugh!! I hope that farm in BC is doing okay with the fires. I love cotswold. It has such drape and shine. Thank you so much for watching. :)
Hi, Fibre Friend, Love the Baby Cardigan. Hope you get to knit the socks to match. Thankyou so much for sharing this video podcast. Hope you have a Great Week Happy Spinning and Knitting Fibre Friend 🎡🐑🥰🌼 Take care and stay safe Lots of love and Big Hugs Jen xxxx ❤️❤️❤️🫂🫂🫂
Love to have fellow fiberers in WV!!! Feels like you’re right next door. :) just drove past you to a wedding in PA - wish I’d known! Next time. Thanks for watching and commenting. I’m headed over to check out your channel. 🤗
Hello, so glad I found you (your channel came up in my feed). That turned out so pretty & it was so interesting watching the process 😊 I'm now going to catch up on your other videos & look forward to seeing more videos in the future ❤❤❤
Totally get the “knitter first, then a spinner” comment, as I am similar. Though I have been daydreaming about taking up weaving. But even then, I like making wearables mostly, so though art yarn is very cool, I would still struggle to use it 😊
Hey Rhonda! Weaving! That’s a rabbit hole I’ve been avoiding. Let me know how that goes for you. I have no room for a loom the size is lust after. Ha! I’m glad I’m not alone with Art yarn issues! Thank you for watching!!
Hi, Fibre Friend, I hope you're OK xx ❣️❣️❣️ Thankyou so much for sharing this video podcast. Loved the Batt and your finished Handspun Yarn. Wow, I'm so glad you showed how much dye came out when you was setting the finished yarn. I'm so glad that heating it up with the white vinegar in the water sealed the colour into your Yarn. Happy Spinning Fibre Friend 🎡🐑🥰🌞 Take care and stay safe Love and Big Hugs Jen xxxx ❤️❤️🫂🫂🫂🌼
Hi Jen! Good to have solutions for those runny dyes! Hope you are doing well. Have you met Abigail Sinclair? She's a dyer in Lewisburg. She has ColorTheoryFiber.com. Exciting times! so good to hear from you. :)
Hi Nancy, I hope you're OK xx ❣️❣️❣️ Wow your Batts are amazing. I love the rustic look of the Rambouillet, but when you added the Alpaca it looks even more amazing. Especially the difference in the 2 Swatches, the Alpaca made it look softer.🐑🦙 I think your son will love the his new Sweater. 🌟 I totally agree with you about his car being broken into and taking something precious makes it even worse. Happy Blending, Spinning and Knitting Fibre Friend 🦙🎡🐑🥰🌟 Hope you have a Wonderful Weekend Take care and stay safe Lots of love and Big Hugs Jen xxxx ❤️❤️❤️🫂🫂🫂💐
Hey Jen!! I can see regular thieves stealing Nike sweatshirts, but hand knots? Odd ball thief. :/ Thank you for watching!!! How are those purple batts doing for you? You know I want to see when you get around to them. :) Just started messing with fleeces from MD Sheep and Wool. Ooooo! Hope to see you!
