Andy is good friends with Geoff and Sue Woodward. They have given us permission to use their books and photos. Andy also has his own collection of photos etc. have a look for some of their books on Google search. They are brilliant. I hope to get a chance to interview them one day.

My sister & me & our mother often rode on this line fmom Harpenden East to WGC Dept Stores, until it closed in '65. Being twins (my sister & me that is) we had to go in the guards van as the pram wouldn't fit in the carriage! I did write to BR in the '70s to ask if the line could be reopened, but was informed that parts of the track had been sold for housing (at Harpenden East) Still have their reply. In Dunsatble we have no station (there were 2)

I use to go to Roundwood school that was next to the Nicky Line. We often played on it even when the trains ran on it. My mum used to say to me what are you up to today. Oh I’m playing on the Nicky Line. Well be careful and make sure you’re back by 5.00 for tea. I was nine. Happy memories

I like the way they had new diesel trains. Some money must have been invested in line before plug was pulled looks like no passengers.

Just watched part 5. I remember when I was young the entrance to Bute Street station was where Birch Bros buses used to operate from. There was often a smell of fish in the vicinity. I also remember the awful smell of the gas works before natural gas became available. Mind you, they had to add a smell to it as people were gassing themselves without realising it....

The route was never built as a branch line in the first place, but later, it was treated as a branch line mainly in BR days. A branch line is a line that branches of a main line, and is not very busy. This didn't really branch off any main line and this line was very busy up till closer of the line between Luton and Hatfield. You say that the Crawly green road bridge was rebuilt as double 20 to 30 years ago well that's wrong because it was only done about 10 to 15 years a go if not less fact! I an Lutonian and know this area well very well!

Thanks matthewwren1177 for taking the time to leave a comment. You are absolutely right about the Crawley Green Road Bridge. The proposal was not discussed until 2008 in the Luton Council plans. And was not forecasted until approx 2012. There are massive plans on the table still for the whole area, so it will be interesting to see what happens next! I don’t know the exact date it was completed but will tell Andy off for you ☺️ thanks for watching the video.

Fascinating to see. I lived around the corner from Harpenden East and I was hoping to catch a glimpse of my then 8 year old self watching the final down and up trains. I have pictures of the down train, it was too dark for my Brownie when the final train went through (8:07pm iirc). I went to WGC/Hatfield earlier in the day.
