Jews are an ethnoreligious group indigenous to the Land of Israel. The Jewish people were scattered across the world during multiple exiles. What does our DNA tell us about our journey from our ancestral homeland of Judah to Europe or North Africa or the Middle East? What does it mean when your DNA test comes back as Ashkenazi or Sephardic or Mizrahi? What admixture is underneath these categories? These profound questions relating to Jewish genetics are just beginning to be answered and some questions might never be answered. But modern genetic science has offered a window into the Jewish past that previous generations of Jews could have only dreamed of. The new book "Seed Of Israel: DNA Guide To Tracing Your Jewish Ancestry" is for anyone interested in finding out their Jewish ancestry and interpreting the results. Available on Amazon in eBook and paperback versions.
The Mesopotamia region has always been the homeland of the Kurds. Not Iraq or other ethnic elements. Please do detailed research on that region and then share.
I’m nearly 100% Scandinavian or North Swedish but I get Amerindian as well. Levantine and North African aside. I don’t have that. But I think that Amerindian in this calculator and I’ve done some calculations using G25 myself so I know how it works, is a proxy for something else. It is not because we are related to Native Americans. It is because we as West Eurasien peoples are related to a population in Bajkal area of the Altai. The Ancient North Eurasians. They survived the Ice Age in the Altai, and contributed to both South asians, europeans, and West asians. That Ashkenazi picked up some heritage from this paleolithic population is no surprise.
The traditionally accepted narrative, backed by historical truth, and even genetic evidence, is that Ashkenazi Jews are the descendants of Semitic Jews within the Roman Empire who, during persecution, had the entire female population separated from the male population, during which time, male Jews took to Greco Roman women. Now there are also Ashkenazi Jews with Christian fathers or grandfathers, who still are considered racial Jews according to matrilineal blood or being within a recent generation's distance from matrilineal blood. But yes all Ashkenazi Jews have a Southern Italian origin and a Levantine origin, which is the majority of their origin. However, there are also Ashkenazi with Christian fathers or grandfathers or great grandfathers whose ethnic backgrounds are reflective of the Christian culture in which they were Diasporic within. (Russia, Germany, Northern Italy, etc.) Which adds to the diversity of individual Ashkenazi origins.
I thought Ashkenazi Jews came from 4 founding woman 2500 years ago? according to DNA Haplo group markers there are only 4 and what I have read is only 40% of Ashkenazi can trace there beginnings from these 4 Haplo-groups. correct me if I am wrong. My Ashkenazi DNA results put me at 62% (50% mother & 12% from Dad) and the K2a2a Haplo marker is on my mothers side to one of those founding women
I’ve seen Palestinians take autosomal dna tests on illustrativeDNA and they get a lot more than 38% Levantine. I’ve seen some Palestinian Muslims score over 80% Phoenician/Canaanite. I think it is true Palestinian Muslims score elevated Arabian and SSA compared to their Christian counterparts, but it seems they are not that genetically different to each other.
I got 17% Arabia K36 but on K13 the closest arab is at the distance of .18 or more, closest are NorthAfrican populations like algeria mozabite berber or moroccan knowing that i got 28% north african it makes sense north african is closest but why arabian is far ?
Hello! I didn't understand how to put each chromosome in the target. I think the coordinates you got are those codes at the bottom of the page, right? Did you need any tools to convert? I have my simulated K36 coordinates, but I don't know how to separate by chromosome.
Hi which Gedmatch Calculator is the best for Levantine / Near Easter / Middle Eastern DNA and how should I upload the G25 Results? Gedrosia Calculator which shows over 49% Natufian, which is Ancient Canaanite DNA.
Have you ever heard of Jits van Straten’s “The Origin of Ashkenazi Jewry: The Controversy Unraveled”? The book itself is ironically controversial as the author has quite a bizarre view on the origins of Ashkenazi Jews. The website JewishDNA did a good debunk of van Straten’s book.
I’m in ohio at the moment and this entire thing has me preparing for Aliyah. I cannot believe how many congressmen are openly hating Jews. That’s what it is, they hate us.
The description of Geneplot says that they investigate your DNA in more depth. That makes me understand that you have those origins, otherwise they wouldn't put it in or I'm wrong!
The Democrats are pushing all the nonsense on Israel just to try and win the coming election. They're despicable. Ignore them Look to God and read the last chapter (maybe the last 2) to understand what is going on now. Behold the Guardian of Israel will not sleep or slumber.
Good info, thank you for sharing. When I first took DNA tests with Ancestry DNA and also with 23&me several years ago, both companies told me I had 1% Ashkenazi Jewish DNA (obviously barely any). I knew that this meant that I wasn’t really Jewish since I didn’t grow up Jewish or being told I had any Jewish ancestry. However, this test result indicated that I could have Jewish ancestors who assimilated and lost their heritage. Also, my mom said she remembered her paternal grandfather telling her that he had some Jewish ancestry. I was very curious about this, so I began building my family tree and going back as far as I could. In the process of doing this, I found 20 surnames that Ancestry’s dictionary sited as being “Jewish” (along with some other ethnicity, usually German, although in one case Spanish-so Ashkenazi & Sephardic). But none of these surnames were exclusively Jewish from what I could tell. But what was interesting to me is that all the ancestors and families I have with these surnames usually married each other and had families with each other. But most of them lived during the 1500s-1700s. The closet one to me lived during the 1800s, and that particular ancestor from Hanover was probably just German, but I don’t know for sure. Other than the surnames (which I can’t take as conclusive evidence of a lost Jewish heritage), I didn’t find any other evidence of lost Jewish ancestors. Then, I got an update to my DNA results at both Ancestry & 23&me. On Ancestry, my 1% Ashkenazi Jewish switched to becoming part of my Southern Italian / Sicilian DNA (that percentage went up). On 23&me, it changed from 1% Ashkenazi Jewish to 1% Coptic Egyptian. I was confused, so I took a DNA test through 3 other companies (My Heritage, Circle, and Family Tree DNA). My Heritage & Circle say I have 1-3% “Middle Eastern,” and Family Tree DNA says I have 3% Levant. Ultimately, it’s still a mystery what that small percentage of DNA really is; but based on what I know from my family history and what I’ve learned from your videos, it very well may just be Sicilian DNA (since my great great grandfather came to America from Sicily in 1910). But my question for you is: is there someone (a geneticist or someone else) you know of who could help me see if any of my ancestors were Jewish, particularly those families with the specific surnames that Ancestry recognizes as frequently Jewish?
So i just tried LM Genetics K3 Calculator and I got a distance of 0.01 for their result. Would that be indicative that this is my Ancestry? Not sure how accurate my Ancestry dna results are anymore or how close i come to their algorithm but this LM GENETICS K3 is the closest distance i have ever seen me come to on anything! If these are my true results it changes everything.
Hi Josh quick question? I saw a post on Quora that Dani Behan put out that says that azhkanazi Jews have trace results of East African at 3-5%. Is this true or not?
Not true overall. In some individual cases there is a lower percentage of East African. What is evident in Ashkenazi Jews however is minor North African ancestry which seems to be consistent and also appears in other Western Diaspora Jewish populations.
why do you get a bunch of jewish groups in these if your 100% ashkenazi? when i do these tests the only jewish group that pops up everytime is moroccan jew
