I'm in hometown now, probably departing back to our own house soon I just found this arr. by you, and absolutely strike me in the heart. I'm 100% sure this arr. would cause me a tromendouse nostalgia to my hometown
Melodically it’s great but it’s missing the drive, you left out the important persistent triplet notes that push the intensity forward and really hit that climax in section B 3:22 this is nice but it’s too elongated sounding and drags on also it’s too under tempo which doesn’t provide continuity and clarity to the melody and this section is supposed to be full of texture and pure intensity. Good start though, another thing is those 12 measures in section B it feels like the dynamics got there a bit too soon and we loose the dramatic feel of the climax and it’s weakened, try to spare dynamic up to that point, Rachmanninoff loves to use elongated phrases so it’s hard to not peak to soon. Try listening to Valentina Lisitsa playing it, I love her performance it has this rising and falling concept in mind. I fell like the piano could be doing more as well maybe give the piano double handed triplet rhythms for that section and use it to build that intensity and add in instruments each measure at a time to make the dynamic louder and more texturous and building the intensity to that high point. Also you re using 5/4 time signature yet this piece is all originally in 4/4 only I think you should look at the original piano score for rhythmic reference as it seems as though you’re doing this by ear only.
Thanks for the feedback. I didn't necessarily leave anything out. I purposefully placed emphasis on the melody. That's the part I love about this piece. The melody is absolutely gorgeous and I really wanted to showcase it. I realized that would remove some of the drive forward, but that was a secondary consideration. I also wanted to experiment with interplay between the piano and orchestra, that's why the piano doesn't have a bigger role. This is my personal interpretation of this piece, and I love it! I would expect you, or any other performer or arranger/composer to put their own style & passion into it. The results would be different each time I'm sure. When you're making an arrangement, you get to decide what the end result it! That's the beauty of arranging and orchestration. Music is malleable. It can become whatever you want it to be. :)
Hi, this is a wonderfull work, i have friends whos are intrested to play this arrg., how we can get the score? My mail is maxifasciglione22@hotmail.com. We are from Argentina. Bye!
It is a success, according to my ears :) Of course, it is not quiet as much effective than the Geoffrey Simon recording, but still very engaging for a computer generated sound.
I typically don't share these because I do not own the music. I just used my ear to recreate an approximation of the score. I may consider a PDF but not the finale file.
Thanks! And I'll consider it. I generally don't share the scores because I don't technically own them. This is just my attempt to see how close I can get just using my ear and orchestration skills.
Wonderful Transcription! Is there any way that I could use a pdf of this score just to study it. I'm a young composer, and this is the only transcription I've found thats even remotely close to the original.
I look forward to hearing more Goldsmith orchestral transcriptions ... Powder, Matinee, Gremlins, Hoosiers etc. etc. there are so many great ones to choose from.
Yes! I have an idea or two if I can get past the one I am currently working on. I also want to do a John Powell piece and a Danny Elfman piece. I even have a nice choir patch for those oos and ahs he loves so much LOL!
I do love it when people like yourselves attempt transcriptions of full scores. Sounds pretty darn good to me. You should the sheets available to people.
Thanks! I love doing transcriptions. I've been working on an Alan Silvestri score. It's kicking my butt because of the complexity. I'm getting through it. I've thought about making them available, but I would not want to break any copyright rules.
Dear Jeremy, We are Azahar Ensemble a Spanish wind Quintet awarded in the 63rd ARD international Music competition in Munich (Germany). Can you send us a email where we can write you? Our email is info@azaharensemble.com Thank you very much
OMG! Someone beat me to it! I was planning to form Cannon into a 3/4 signature song myself. Looks like I don't have to anymore. Could you maybe release the sheet music you used pretty please?
Beautiful piece. I'm studying composition by my self and I would like to ask you if you can send me the sheet music of this piece, so I can analyze it. If not, can you tell me what instruments you are using? Thanks sou much.
I thought for sure I responded to this. Any way, the orchestration is pretty standard: 2 Flutes, Piccolo, 2 Oboes, 3 Bb Clarinets, Bass Clarinet, 2 Bassoons, 4 Horns, 3 trumpets, 3 trombones, 1 Tuba, Timpani, Mallet percussion, two general percussion lines for snare, bass, cymbals. Violin I-a, I-b, Violin II-a and II-b, Viola, Cello I and Cello II, Contrabass. I also think this one uses Harp and Piano
Yes. Currently I only use Finale. I use it for composing and playback. Once Kontakt is installed, it can be added as a VST in Finale. You have to adjust a few things to get them to work correctly during playback, but nothing major
+cyrus-music.com I have #3 in the works already (a kickass Alan Silvestri score), but I love the opening track to The Imitation Game. That's a good suggestion.
+cyrus-music.com Thanks! This was a pain in the butt, but I had to start with this piece because it was my inspiration for becoming a composer. I wanted to see if I could get it as close to the original as possible. :)
superbe Jeremy! (perfect) except perhaps the note (G4?) note from Horn#1 at 0.33' is on octave too high isn't? and this Horn must be doubled with viola at 0.52.. so and so Bravissimo!
+cyrus-music.com Thanks for the compliment and feedback :) I think that high horn note is there in the original recording, but it is much softer, dominated by the horn that goes to root.
bro, make an aplication for this workshop www.ascap.com/music-career/workshops you have 1 day left to send your aplication, it is a really amazing film scoring workshop
