I wish lol. Seriously though, it would cost more compared to other engines, but if Spencer were to restore one of the “bigger” engines on the property, 542 would be the one. Unfortunately I don’t think the cost of such a restoration is in NCTM’s budget right now, but anything is possible.
Would be nice if NCTM would get one of their steamers running since they sold the #4. Even if it was just their Shay. 542 and 544 would be the best ones in my mind, but I've also heard 544 has a cracked engine bed or something, and I'm not sure if 542 is in good enough condition to be operationally restored.
Yeah I really wish we could see steam at Spencer again. I think 544 and 542 were really worn out during their careers, which is probably why they didn’t consider them for restoration in the past. But anything is possible with time, money, and manpower.
544 I believe is a former Gainesville Midland decapod and originally the one that was supposed to be sent to Russia but i could be wrong@@greatsmokymtnsrailfan
Awesome video! Glad you love the Sd24s, they are a beauty!! Enjoyed double heading the mighty 544 with the Southern 542, was a fun time! Keep up the amazing work and thank you for the shout!!

I got to hear that whistle in person last year the last weekend in june. Even got a cab ride on 4501while she was running with it. ru-vid.comamBrghc5J_U?si=1TAQKt3hcWXM4H6e
That is one beautiful sounding whistle. I once saw one of those whistles on locomotive 70 at Dollywood. I personally wouldn’t be opposed to Tweetsie Railroad putting the step-top Southern Railway 3 chime that engine 192 wore in 2018 onto 190.
1. If you could restore ANY steam locomotive/diesel locomotive what would it be? 2. Do you think that for Tweetsie Railroad 190’s 100th birthday (if she even lives till then) should they or should they not give her her WP&Y 5 chime? 3. What’s your favorite Train game? 4. What’s your favorite Narrow Gauge Railroad? 5. What are your opinions on Oil Burners?
