Entertainment, social & political commentary from an opinionated GenXer.
I'm not in the entertainment industry and never have been. I have no inside scoop and won't pretend to. Like most of you, I'm simply a fan of things and am passionate about them. Think of me as your buddy who watches a lot of movies & TV and usually knows what's good. I also tend to talk in movie and TV show quotes, which is both fun and annoying to the people around me.
If you enjoy what you find here, consider Subscribing, Liking and Commenting and hitting the Bell thingy or whatever. From what I understand , it helps the RU-vid algorithm or something. I have no clue really.
_"Comics not only had a built-in audience, but had decades worth of stories they could've adapted."_ As much as I love many of the adaptations that have come from comics to the big screen (Civil War, the Inifnity War, many of the origin films), things are also always lost in translation. It kind of irritates me that they feel the need to adapt pre-existing stories at all,. especially if a director is going to be bound and determined to put their own stamp of "originality" on them (worst case examples: the animated adaptation of the Batman: Hush storyline or the odd additions to The Killing Joke's animated... thing...). I know it's particularly hard, but it wouldn't go amiss to just have some brand-new stories with these versions of these characters. Like, Spider-Man 2 used Doc Ock, but they weren't adapting any specific issues of ASM to do it. I want more of THAT.
This video does not have any purpose if you are choosing not to talk about the root politics for all the decisions the entertainment industry has taken so far and will keep taking. The only thing you are achieving here is to mislead the public, delivering this sanitized rant, focusing on the effects that all people already know. It is nice you have good memories and like to share them, but setting aside the real motives why all this is happening, it just turn all this video in an elaborate ploy to cheat people into listen to your voice.
Im Gen X and we never cared! Geraldo and Jenny Jones was the only people spewing that garbage. No one cared! Until 2012 when gas was put on a dying fire. And it was on purpose. Divide and conquered.
Very good analysis, I hope you channel grows, perseverance is the key. At least that's what I've been told. Seriously, opinions like yours are needed, especially in today's world. Best of luck.
the video quality is top notch :) YT recommended to me this video, so I guess more subs will come soon :) looking at this topic as a EU citizen I ask myself - what is wrong with USA? how is this crap being constantly shoved in people's throats? I miss the old Netflix and Disney (and SW ofc) which is now all about DEI
1st, thanks for the compliment...much appreciated! Glad to see YT recommended it. Most of my videos, at least from what I can see behind the scenes, are not normally mentioned to people watching video like mine, so they rarely hit. Glad to see they got it right with you. 2nd, gosh...I wish I knew. But I think it's much more embedded than many in this space think, which is why I'm not as optimistic of it crumbing any time soon. Hope I'm wrong. If you're new here and you enjoyed this, I'd suggest looking around a bit at some older videos which might resonate with you. Some are straight reviews, but many or more topical and it sounds like you may find something you like there. Either way, thanks for watching and leaving such a nice comment. Much appreciated! MAB
Hey, glad to see that you put out a new video (and the choice of topic...Nice)! Great summary and review of this documentary! Sorry to hear about YT demonetizing this video. As we know, they do that sort of thing...And no, neither this movie, nor your review of it, should not be considered 'problematic. If anything is 'problematic', it would be YT and all other platforms that censor things like this. 'Ministry of Truth' anyone? Keep up the good work man!
Thanks! I hate to bitch about RU-vid but damn... In this case, as soon as the video had uploaded and while I was in the process of finalizing the behind the scene stuff I do before publishing the video, they told me the video was not "advertiser friendly." did tell me why, the way a copyright violation will point to a particular section for instance. Just..."Sorry, this isn't ok." And their "solution" is to appeal it, which will take up to 21 days to hear back...essentially nullifying the video as being valuable in any way since a review video is always got a time limit based on how long it's in the public consciousness. It's clearly designed to frustrate creators. And I've argued with them on Twitter about it to no avail. And like I said, I've yet to make any money here which is fine. Actually, I've made about $70 but until you get to $100 they don't even bother to cut you a check.😂 But they ruin any incentive of TRYING to grow when they do things like this. All told, this one took about 40 hours of production time, from writing the script, recording and editing the audio, creating graphics and editing video. To then have them arbitrarily tell me it's not ok, with no specifics as to WHY means that if/when the channel DOES grow enough to make any money what they did would have actually cost me...so it needs to be delt with ASAP. Anyway...sorry to rant. Glad you enjoyed it. I was happy with it, and thought the movie was funny and well done. Glad to have you here. and be sure to spread the word if you can. That seems like the best remedy for dealing with RU-vid at this point. Thanks, MAB
@@themiddleagedbaby Rant Away! I hear ya! I have a friend who runs another YT channel (I told him about yours, btw) and I'm sure he would definitely 'feel your pain'!
Great Video as Usual. Great to see your back ..if I missed some ..sorry Dude. Keep up the outstanding work. Take Care...why can't everybody just get along ...like back in the day. 😊
Thanks, man! Last one I did was Deadpool & Wolverine and before that Avatar, so you're probably all caught up.😉 I've had one in the works addressing kind of why I'm finding it hard to make any (because everything seems to suck and studios refuse to make anything new) and that'll probably be next up. As for the movie here...dunno. I'm still kind of stunned that we're where we are. At no point in my life have race relations seemed as bad as many seem to make them out as being today. Now, on a day to day basis living my life everyone DOES get along, and living on S. Louisiana we've always been diverse. I've seen ZERO indication that everyday people are being drawn into this...but clearly many are when you see polling and hustlers like Walsh illuminated here. It's very frustrating for sure. Great to see you and glad you're still around! Thanks, MAB
FYI: As of this moment, RU-vid is saying this video can't be monetized! Keep in mind, I haven't made a dime yet on this channel, but as view rise, etc one day I might and having a video that I worked on for several days which will have ZERO benefit if/when more viewers show up is the fastest way to run me off the platform. There are NO issues here. I even made sure not to cure this time assuming there may be some Walsh fans show up. Only thing I can think of is that RU-vid is just proactively not allowing monetization of a movie they deem "problematic." Feel free to tell them what you think...🤬 Thanks, MAB ETA: After nearly 48 hours they determined that this video IS "advertiser friendly" without ever telling me WHY their algorithm decided it wasn't right out of the gate and without me making even the slightest change. This is what drives creators insane about this place... And the entire time...not a single word from a human.🙄
Looking at the channel's name, I can't tell if this is supposed to be a parody of an out-of-touch conservative. I was hoping for an actual review. Instead I got complaints about how the woke liberal mob is ruining everything in 2023. Yawn.
*SPOILERS* As a comic book nerd, my biggest fault with D&W was that they set this (main) version of Wolverine up as "the worst Wolverine" because he was off getting drunk while the X-Men were attacked by humans (okay?), yet they actually show Old Man Logan as one of the variants. Old Man Logan LITERALLY SLAUGHTERED the X-Men with his own hands (claws), after being manipulated by Mysterio. But that Henry Cavill Wolverine was the Wolverine we deserve!
There's a lot of clever meta-commentary, and some poignant and surprisingly moving story beats for both Wade and Logan. It's a far deeper movie than folks give it credit for being, but at the end of the day it's still Deadpool. Whether or not you like it is going to depend on whether or not you liked the first two. Anyway, great review, brother. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
So over the last 6 months I've watched the entire Justified series for the first time and i enjoyed it. It had a little to much filler at times but it's still a good series. I just finished prime evil and boy what a terrible show that was. Raylan just isn't even himself or any of the other Marshalls you've seen in the previous series. Even him quitting at the end make zero sense. They should've started the show where the final episode ended and just had him already retired and come out of retirement. Plus no baby voice daughter 😂
Total agreement…just going to wipe it from my memory . I could not make it past 3 episodes. Biggest regret was buying the series outright. Wish there were refunds.
Every show eventually goes woke. They can’t help it. They’re stupid. It takes so much energy and luck to make a show successful but virtually nothing to make it go bad. Winona and Raylan getting to the end of the rainbow would have been a nice way to end it but that’s not woke enough. Everyone dies. Just ask Biden.
Justified was always woke they just didn't ostentatiously ram it down our throats with a shiteatinggrin the way shows do now. Despite that I love the show and watched it as it aired, and own all seasons on bluray.
They made Raylan into this washed out bland character. Nothing like the previous series. He had no powerful attitude,or his signature cockiness. I watched the last quarter of the finale just to see Boyd get free. It was worth the time spent on that last episode just to see Boyd win the day. lol When I saw Caroline mt heart sank. I thought please,God,dont do it. But,..they did it. When he kissed her my stomach really did turn. A short fat black woman. Raylan's daughter saying he hadnt been with anyone for a long time, trying to get him to go chat her up was just nasty. The sad thing? I paid for the entire Primeval series on ebay. I bought the original series on ebay too but it wouldnt play for me. I bought it three times and no go. My PC has no problem with any other DVDs I've bought on ebay, but the Justified ones all are clickme as the format. I found out that it's a virus. I have protection that wouldnt allow it to play on my PC. So,..be careful.
I binged Justified from the first episode all the way to the last episode of primeval. Why lol Why did they work so hard to change the formula? There's not one episode that informs me on anyone's character, i didnt learn anything about anyone. The theme of Justice vs Order could have really been something, and in the original show was kind of a big question mark left at the end of each season, questioning the motives against the outcomes, for Raylan, Boyd, Ava, Art, Tim, Rachel, Vasquez... and holy crap, how did we go from such an awesome lineup of characters to a husk of a character, while people masquerade as cops around him. And another thing, the lawyer is such a weak interest for Raylan. Every love interest Raylan has had has challenged him, and made him grow, and its his need for growth that keeps him from finding the woman for him. Hes the perfect cowboy gunfighter, which necessitates his loneliness, until he gives up his ways or dies. The show could have started with him planning his retirment to finally be with Wynonna, but nahhhh. We will just hamfist him in with the flattest character ever written and say it works. I had Boyd's return spoiled for me. I thought for sure hed be a cliffhangar appearance, saving Raylan at the last second after being in over his head. But no, he inexplicably escapes prison, only choosing to after years of incarceration. 13 years, at that. Like, why?? I watched it, and im glad i have closure, but man do i wish that theyd just let it go. They didnt even really tie it in to the broader world written by the author, besides a cameo. Just weak, all around. Ugh.
The most unfortunate thing is that it's basically the same team from the later Justified seasons. one woman, Ingrid Escajeda, who was producer and writer and story executive for the first 3 seasons of Justified was only a consulting producer on the new miniseries. She may've actually been the driving voice of the better parts of Justified.
I agree one h undred percent. They took City Primeval and shoved every agenda down the throats of anyone who watched it . Racism, diversity, homosexuality, everything. I wanted to like the show so bad because Raylan was in it but I just couldnt. As you say,Raylsn is a watered down version of himself. And there was no one to take the role of Art. Raylan only had that black woman who doesnt like him. I found him to be flat in this show. I didnt finish watching it all. I just went to the end of the finale to watch Boyd getting out of prison. That made me smile.
Disney is trying to change culture, they are not making entertainment anymore, they are just following instructions and chasing the ESG scores and incentives. The people making these shows and movies are just useful idiots being used to create content who's goal is to change/control people's behavior.
I was lucky. I started with city primeval (mistaking it for the original show and very confused that there was only one Season) and found it… pretty okay. Solid. Now, then I got to see the actual show and in comparison it’s…. Pure trash. Still wanna see season 2 because…. Well… Boyd.
I was sort of interested until you had to bash Carolyn and insert the vomit meme. What is the purpose? I don't think there was good chemistry between them, but wow, what a stupid flex.
Justified just doesn’t work outside of a place like Harlan. Kentucky and its denizens and Raylan’s relationship with them is made it an interesting show. There’s already a thousand cop shows set in urban environments, this is such a generic “big city” vibe. The “modern audience” pandering also certainly doesn’t help.
The short cop chewing his gum was just a poor impersonation of Josh Browlin in Saccario. Also, no man with Raylan's boudoir resume falls for Ving Rhames with a wig.
