Hi all...HAPPY NEW YEAR! Hope everyone is doing well! Just a quick review of the new Gervais Netflix special. Let me know what you guys think and if you've seen the special and what your favorite bits were, assuming you liked it as well. The goal it to put out much more this year, so be sure to stick around and check back...or do that bell thing! I legit have no clue what that does, but...if that tells you when I upload a video, then do that! 😉😂 Thanks, MAB
After Life is such an amazing show. I lost my wife to cancer when I was 30, and he just nails so much of the grieving process. I could be laughing my ass off one minute, and bawling the next (or vice versa).
Hey boom...always great to see you! I'm so sorry...not sure if you'd mentioned that before about your wife. I completely got where his character was coming from. I know I'd never be able to move on, and I liked that instead of the typical TV show move he allowed his character to NOT move on, find a new love, etc. He was able to move past his endless grief, but accept that he'd had the love of his life. The very end scene basically watching him walk through the rest of his life, watching the dog disappear, etc was just incredible. Good to see you...Happy New Year!
I've enjoyed his movies and I've seen several of his Netflix specials and have enjoyed them. I may not always think every thing he says is hilarious but I like that he's not afraid to talk about everything and overall I enjoy his work. I liked Afterlife. It had a nice balance of funny and drama. I've been watching a lot of comedians like him and Bill Burr and Mike Birbiglia. Definitely will watch this one!
Hey Rob! Been watching your giant haul videos...I'd need a damn storage unit for all of that myself! Afterlife was a gut punch for me...I completely understood where his character was coming from because I knew the feeling of knowing I'd never move on. That, plus Gervais being an ambivalent dick to most people and then leaning to be less so was a great ride for me. Good to see you...Happy New Year! MAB
I think the show was filmed earlier than the finished product. Maybe he just went through recorded footage and decided this was raw and fun, or Netflix wanted it out for Christmas.
All time fan here... and it was boring. Funny yes, but nothing surprising, which is boring when you watch a brand new Ricky Gervais hour and expect the best.
Just did, he actually did made me laugh out loud a couple of times, not as boring but still not great for his level. Glad I gave it a second shot though, I guess I wasnt in the best mood first time around.
I’m a huge fan of rape jokes, and Ricky is one of the very few left that still does them. However, I still have criticisms of this latest special. His first two (‘Animals’, ‘Politics’) are fantastic, first all. But then at around ‘Fame’) he started to poke more and more at fat people and the disabled, which isn’t off-limits, but it was a trend that continued and escalated, to the point where in the last few specials you know it’s coming. And the reason? He is obsessed with cancel culture, censorship and everything around that. Like, completely fixated, to the point where it is ALL he can write about. He is still funny, but his netflix specials suffer from the lack of change in direction. It’s predictable and slow-paced. I wouldn’t score it higher than 5/10
Massive Ricky fan but i can't agree on Armageddon i thought it was his worst stand up yet, just didn't find it that funny and it felt like he hadn't put much effort into it..
