Hi, welcome to my channel!
I have loads of ideas for small to medium size projects, many of which aim to create something unique, save money or learn more about a topic.
I have been interested in technology, guns and knives all of my life and many of my projects will be related to these fields.
And although I am a scientist and work in a high-tech industry, I love to do things with my hands.
I have lived most of my life speaking English for non-mothertongue speakers, so my speech is clear and quite slow.
I hope you will understand everything I say: that's my aim.
If you have an idea for a project let me know! Maybe I can do it or make it!
I like pistol and rifle shooting and take part in competitions in Switzerland. Some of these have their roots in history and are an interesting view into Swiss culture. Come along with me.
I'm looking forward to sharing interesting stuff with you!

@@dingo5208 Thank you for your concern! I think it had to do with reflux of stomach acid. I'm told i only clear my throat repeatedly now after eating, but I don't notice it to be honest. I have changed a few things including tilting my bed, a stiffer pillow and getting a CPAP machine and perhaps trying a healthier diet with less fat and less sugar.

I would have degreased the holes and then used loctite on the screws and of course torqed them.

The rounded metal wire end on the little mirror can be slipped over the chamber indicator on top of the rifle, when you manually push up the indicator from within the upper. The rounded end fits into a groove in the indicator. That way the chamber indicator can be held out of the way when cleaning the chamber with the big brush.

In the US the Swiss Army P75 or Sig Sauer P220 is also known as a Browning BDA...( Browning Double Action )
@RobWhittlestone
@RobWhittlestone 4 месяца назад
Very interesting that they marketed the .45 calibre as such! Thank you for this tidbit! The more usual use of BDA is to denote an update of the 9mm FN Browning Hi-Power which is originally single action. All the best, Rob in Switzerland

@@RobWhittlestone Thank you rob...the BDA also comes in 9mm and i may be wrong but i think super .38 as well as .45 although im not sure when it became almost exclusively .45 when its refered to. What is the point of the hole?
@RobWhittlestone
@RobWhittlestone 6 месяцев назад
To be able to clean the bore with a rod and brush *from the breech* keeping the rod straight. It's not recommended to clean from the muzzle. I found it suboptimal that the rod has to be angled offering uneven wear on the bore. Anybody who takes accuracy seriously doesn't want to be cleaning harder on one side of the bore than the other. As you can see from the comments, I am not the only one irritated by this! I hope this was useful. Yes, I take ages to measure it because I don't have sophisticated tools but it is important to get it in the right position otherwise I might as well not have bothered! And I'm Swiss and OCD so careful measurement before drilling is a must! Many thanks for viewing and commenting! All the best, Rob

@@RobWhittlestone does it not hurt the strength of the receiver
@RobWhittlestone
@RobWhittlestone 6 месяцев назад
@@navykitty5339 Of course every removal of material weakens a structure. However the rear wall of my receiver is not subject to much stress or impact, as I have a polymer bolt buffer which arrests the movement of the bolt at the rear extremity before it is accelerated forwards by the recoil spring to load another cartridge in the breech. I have judged this to be a harmless modification since the hole drilled is quite small in comparison to the dimensions of the receiver as a whole. The Ruger 10/22 has been manufactured for many decades and millions have been produced. If there were an endemic structural weakness in this item, Ruger would have fixed it decades and millions of units ago. I therefore feel pretty secure in making this small modification. FYI I have experienced a material failure in a pistol (SIG Mosquito) where the slide sheared just behind the ejection port as a result of repeated impacts (maybe 4000-5000 rounds) using mostly CCI regular but also maybe maximum 500 rounds of their hotter ammo (Stinger). This was graciously replaced for free by GSG (German Sport Guns) in Germany as it was clearly a manufacturing (casting) problem. The replacement new part (with the correct frame number) has apparently the same design as the part that failed so I must assume that the design is OK and the casting of the failed part was at fault. You may remember that GSG always manufactured the SIG Mosquito and now has the rights to it. It is now called the GSG FireFly. I have to commend GSG for their excellent and responsible customer service. I hope this was useful and interesting! Many thanks for your interest and interaction! All the best, Rob

Thank you for your video. Very informative! Which website did you order your Champion glasses?
@RobWhittlestone
@RobWhittlestone 8 месяцев назад
I actually went to a specialzed optician who sells them. The reason is, he has to check the setup that the lens is in the right position for the appropriate type of weapon: the size, position and angle of the lens is very different between standing pistol and prone rifle. I hope this was helpful. All the best, Rob in Switzerland. PS. Perhaps if you check Champion's website they may list dealers in your area.

For those contemplating doing this. I used a cleaning rod to indicate the position in the receiver. Turns out it was exactly the same location as the buffer tube holes. Ended up using the buffer tube holes as position indicator. Lines up and Works perfectly. No need for a jig.

I have pretty much rebuild that yesterday evening. I had the same idea as I searched for examples on RU-vid and found your video. I just took a douglais-decking board 2x12x200 cm, adopted the deeper cutout on the back, used triangled cuttings as stabilisations because of the thinner wood and made some leather stripes and leather foots today. turned out pretty nice for a little rushed project in the evening. Just like you, I did not wanted to pay 60 or more Euros for a simple plastic stand that does the same. also, this makes a great present for every g*n owner! thanks for the ispiration, have a good one!

In the US you can own the full auto lower legally. The upper is the serialized portion of the weapon. But to run the weapon in full auto you need a full auto cut upper in addition to the full auto lower. Which is illegal in the US. Although it is not that difficult to modify a semi auto upper so it will operate in full auto with the full auto lower. But, obviously, that is illegal as well.
@RobWhittlestone
@RobWhittlestone 2 года назад
In Switzerland you can also legally own weapons with select fire (full auto). Here you need to apply for a cantonal ‚exception permit‘ (kantonale Ausnahmenewilligung in German) and this allows you to purchase a weapon with full auto. Such a permit is also required for suppressors. Thanks for viewing and commenting! All the best, Rob

Take the bolt and charging handle out of the receiver. Get a drilling jig from Brownells, bolt it into the receiver, then use the cork from a wine bottle to plug the barrel end of the receiver so you don't get any metal shavings into the barrel. Drill the hole, clean everything up, and unplug the wine bottle cork, and you're done. It would be nice if Ruger would just drill a cleaning hole to begin with, but they don't. So far. They may at some point.
