Thank you so much for posting, I can’t believe that I didn’t come across your video sooner! John Rector was my father and he loved exploring and working with other Florida Trails members - it was such a tight knit group at the time and they did great work together. My dad grew up in the mountains of Western North Carolina and moved to Florida before I was born (long time ago - 1960’s). He taught school and coached football for over 30 years in Hillsborough and Pinellas Counties. Always active, he started walking 5 miles/day after a heart attack in 1983, leading him to trail hikes for variety. He joined FTA in maintaining and clearing trails in his retirement. Such great memories, thank you! 👏👏👏

Does anyone know if they have 4x4 trails for jeeps? Looking for new places to take my special needs clients so they can enjoy nature without the stress of miles of walking.

I’ve always just thought of Ichetucknee Springs State Park as a great place to go tubing down the river (especially for the college crowd). It’s great to see the amazing beauty & history to be seen there while hiking. I definitely plan to get up there for the trails now. Hiking through a beautiful forest with a gorgeous river as well as old mining pits & artifacts is my idea of a great hike! Thanks for this wonderful video!

It was nice to see you preserve this on video so people can appreciate the history of the area. Once these places are gone, they’re gone.

Native here, no one used to go to the springs they all went to the beaches. Then the internet happened and people started posting wherever they went and gave out the location. I remember going to Weeki Wachee Springs and being the only one on the river

@@katjones2781 well keep in mind you have over a thousand people moving to Florida per day. It’s sad for sure I do my best to keep locations private though. I do strive through my videos to at least show people the beauty and history of Florida so that they’ll at least appreciate it. Thanks for watching!

I think it's sad that almost 100 years later the land hasn't recovered. You have extensive areas covered in concrete. The rain can't penetrate the ground there and replenish the water table. I think the military should be brought in to pull up a lot of that concrete and random debris and crush the concrete and recycle the metal. If Florida can recreate the floodplains of the Everglades, then why leave this mess in other places. Sure, it can be fun to explore and those bricks are cool and some could be saved. There's got to be a lot of artifacts and stuff but since large trees and swamps and other stuff used to be the rule, why not try to reestablish some nature. But realistically, this sort of stuff will happen when land is sold to developers, I guess.

Cool video! Around those old industrial structures watch out for basically punji pits. Often there are drainage or other rectangular concrete holes going deep into the ground, sometimes semi or completely covered by debris or foliage

I grew up living next to and exploring the Alafia river. My father started working at the phosphate plant in Gibsonton in the 50's. I remember as a child going to the phosphate plant to pick my dad up after work. I have canoed so much of the river through the years. I now have retired to Costa Rica and I live looking at the pacific ocean and the jungle. It is those childhood memories that gave me such a love for nature.

Enjoyed the sounds of nature. Really true old Florida. That was a big alligator! Thank you for sharing this great video. Good info on the history. Thoughts of how tough it was living that lifestyle. We get spoiled with our comforts now. Happy safe hiking Florida Trail Blazer.

The op shot was so majestic and looked very enchanted like a fairy tale forest. Not something most people envision when they think of Florida and it's sunny beaches, not even many Floridians either actually. This channel is a real eye opener.😃

Since moving to Lake Wales from Tampa last year I have hiked Tiger Creek many times and absolutely love it , no one is ever there lol .I do prefer the Pfundstein rd entrance , less sand , more forest .The whole loop is quite a kicker , at least 15 miles , including Herron loop and Bluffs loop .Trisha's peek is my favorite spot to take a break , just gorgeous 😍
