Let’s take a hike into nature and history in the Green Swamp Wilderness Preserve located in central Florida. It’s a beautiful wilderness that spans four counties and is vital to the natural ecosystems and wildlife habitats here in Florida. For generations people settled in the area had homesteads and lived off the land. There was railroads and logging all throughout the swamps. Along with turpentine, agriculture and mining the Green Swamp has many layers of history to discover and learn about. Today it’s all preserved and reclaimed by nature. There are many miles of trails both marked and unmarked along with lots off the beaten path places to explore. Out here I like to take my time and just roam through the woods. It’s serene, peaceful and you never know what you’ll discover along the way. As always I leave everything that I see out here undisturbed and always am respectful of the nature and history we have to enjoy. If you explore into the Green Swamp be sure to study the maps, always keep track of where you go. Be safe and prepared it’s a big place. I hope this video gives you a nice glimpse into this wilderness and some of the stuff you may discover. It’s always what keeps me coming back. Enjoy the adventure and thank you for watching!

Really enjoyed this video. Once a place where a traveled road and homesteads were. Feel the same on being curious about the people who once lived there. The parts of an old Packard and now happy otters and the owls are living in the reclaimed by nature areas. So important that we respect that no one owns the land. We are only stewards of it. Your hikes give inspiration for saving more of the places that are so valuable for the ecosystem. Happy safe hiking Florida Trail Blazer .

Thank you again for a fascinating view of Florida's past. It means so much to me as multigenerational Floridian. As overdevelopment is consuming our countryside., I hope there will be protected areas forever. That's why I work at promoting the interconnected Florida Wildlife Corridor. Land that wildlife can move or migrate safely. I'm sure you know all about it. It's becoming increasingly difficult to establish this because of the development and the major highways. Thank you again Joe showing us how it was. Oh and by the way remind your viewers to try to resist the temptation to take things that they find out in the woods. You are always precise about not doing that. Seeing things like the hurdy cup need to stay right where they are. That automobile, with the fantastic grill, it makes you wonder what were people doing out there long ago that could afford a car like that!?

Hey Trailblazer! Love your videos they’re so immersive! Any recommendations on some kid friendly trails with some views of old Florida and maybe some homestead/artifact remains to peak their interest in Floridas history?

Where did you access this trail from?

It might near the Van Fleet Trail - Bay Lake Trailhead cause there are a couple old cars near there that look like that. From the parking lot, turn right to go South on the Van Fleet Trail - that goes to the cars. Further that way is so swampy that it’s beautiful and surreal but not possible to hike off the bike trail. You may not even get cell phone service there.
