Welcome to my Adults with Autism channel. I created this channel because I could never find videos that related to how I felt about having High Functioning Autism as an adult. Most videos were about children with Autism or Aspergers Syndrome. There are many Adults being diagnosed now with an Autistic spectrum disorder and I felt the need to spread some awareness on this issue.

When I told one of my sisters I had been diagnosed as being on the spectrum, she said I couldn’t be because I look people in the eye. I actually felt really happy about that because I’ve been faking it ever since I was a teenager (by staring at a point on someone’s face), and I’ve always wondered if people can tell the difference. My sister couldn’t, anyway.

Very informative...going to be 70 next year...never fit it...never had a clue why...only found out a couple of months ago...would have been nice to have understood myself better...

"the big secret" is spot on - and often hearing "get with it" from neurotypical people in terms of social communication just thinking you're having an off day.

One therapist told me autistic people don't experience social anxiety - how silly and absolutely incorrect

The diagnosis is tricky sometimes for older adults who've seriously developed some masking abilities. I found it's better in person too - remote diagnosis doesn't catch all of the body language.

Aspergers is a neuro diverse condition in which the workforce doesn't know how to manage and utilize their strengths and abilities to contribute to society. Society needs to change their views on this condition and many other neuro diverse conditions that actually is different ways of thinking that is being under-utilized for the workforce and the world.

Yes I can identify with what you say: I am a 64-year-old male diagnosed only ten years ago and long-term unemployed. But the greatest challenge for me is in terms of relationships with women because I think very few women are attracted to autistic men.

Awe I’m so sad for those that went before us undiagnosed. I am trying to help my 80 year old estranged uncle who I knew was different, we all knew, but I took a special interest in him because well I’m thé black sheep and he was too. He is so smart too smart for real connections, he is a prodigy with the piano. He is so afraid of being labeled because he saw his uncle get institutionalized then he went with his mother to go get him out, what he saw terrified him so much that he turned to food nutrition to make sure he wouldn’t get sick

Hello there. I was diagnosed in my mid 20's with Asperger's now know as high functioning autism. My name is Melody and I have just recently watched your video and everything from clothing textures, and highly sensitive to loud noises such as firecrackers and balloons will causes issues, as well as not understanding social cues and having anxiety in large crowds. I am glad to know that there are other individuals willing to be open about how this has affected their lives and especially yours. I wish you all the best.

I've always known I was different. I struggle with the word "I" honestly, I've never really had a complete sense of personal identity that I can recall. I'm just here and am me, and I can't really explain it any better than that. The problem is that when we were young there was no mercy for the "retarded", and our parents would have probably gotten violent with any doctor that dared imply we were anything other than normal. Anyone else here who read half the World Book Encyclopedia set before they even started talking?

Sorry, a bit late with this post (11 years after video posting) I was officially diagnosed at 55 years old. I had a horrible experince as a child and young adult and have experienced ongoing problems with employment as an adult. I suffered terribly (physically and mentally) but nevery understood why. It effected all aspects of my life, from private to professional. Just finding out I had ASD, even after all these years, is just so theraputic. I suggest people my age, who suspect they might be on the autism spectrum, see a GP or therapist and find out for sure. It can be expensive but knowing can help make sense of a lot of your past.

I get most of these symptoms since birth because I have a birth defect in my pancreas. I get massive amounts of insulin every time i eat. I'm supposed to eat a tiny bit every two hours. So i live on an emotional roller coaster. My life has been a terrible challenge but God is with me.crumbling plastic or potato chip bags i cannot stand to hear it. I wake up in the middle of night with my blood sugar crashed(low) & i wake up every morning feeling hung over like I've been drinking alcohol all night long . the sugar highs& lows have ruined my life. Maybe 3 times a year for an hour I feel very normal and i cry tears of joy because my mind is so clear and I'm not depressed. If only i could feel this stable and happy every day ? I could become the pharmacist that i wanted to be instead of the janitor i was.i was a meat cutter for 24 years but i never moved up to management because my mind is on a roller coaster because my blood sugar crashes non stop since birth and your brain does not function properly when blood sugar is low,you can't think properly. People laugh at me because it makes me act like I'm drunk when my sugar drops so needless to say i am an introvert because i know how i am . i became suicidal at age 16 before I found out about my birth defect. Then I learned to stop gorging on sweets, by the way i crave sweets 4 times more than an average person because of the insulin and yes sugar is like a drug to me because when i do eat it i need & crave more, more, more now!! Then i have to crash eventually and walk the line with my diet. Sound weird ? It is. Its not nice feeling drunk most of the time. I hope this helps you🌎✌❤🙏

Hi ! I have just found your videos, and most of what you explain is how I find things... And your words " Feels like wading through mud" is a perfect way of explaining things. I have been trying to do as much research on my problems as possible, and find similarities with other people, but you are so far the closest I have found to how I am... Thank you so much for sharing... it is VERY much appreciated, and SO helpful for my notes for my appointment in July for a diagnosis.

I never put all the puzzle pieces together until I was 52. That is when my wife mentioned Aspergers to me. I looked into it all, took the tests and sure enough, I was a high ranking Aspie. Which finally put my life into perspective of why this and why that. It also allowed me to see my dad and a uncle are also Aspies. And that my half brother is also on the spectrum.

That easy way of communicating you have is concise and heartfelt .I definitely got more satisifying information to move forward with courage.Expert order . Such as splrited vocabulary ,comparable to Henry D.Thoreaux designed style that steps furthur in what someti breaks grammatical margin.Beautifully done.So much more than the earlier ones designed to cover too much info about childhood .Simple and extremely pointed in directional age groups that are desperate for help

Ive always wondered why all my peers found life so do-able, while i struggled. I just always thought it was low self esteem. I have changed my mind now at age 51. Always known as the crazy eccentric friend. Iv devoured as many youtube vids on this subject over the past 2-3 years and Bingo, im an undiagnosed aspie for sure. I think in pictures, i remember everything from my childhood, especially from age 2 to early 20's. Everything. Ive worked alone as a craftsman in my workshop for 25 years. Ive been obsessed with unicycles since age 11, and have designed and built various unique unicycles that have never been built in the world. Oh, and btw, i scored 42/50 on Barron Cohen' online test.

I am 50 and was just diagnosed a month ago. I never suspected I was autistic. My parents, schools, etc told me I was a lazy piece of crap and I believed them. I thought eveyone had the same problems as me only I was too much of a piece of crap to deal with life like everyone else. Then a youtuber "came out" and discribed his symptoms. I was shocked because they were my personality traits. Whpithin 4 hours of reseach there was no question that I was autistic. So I was formally diagnosed.

It is much more likely that you have SAD + NLD, probably some elements of AvPD or BPD impulsive type. Why jump to autism. Autism is when you do not understand finances nor money, when you need someone else to plan for you e.g. admissions to University and all peculiarities associated with the process. SAD AvPD NLD and/or LD BPD Combination of the above is much more likely diagnosis than ASD

According to a Swedish study of 7000 adult autists, the average lifespan of an autist is only 37 years. So all of you old lads, get out of here, you are nOT autistic, trust me.
