I love my art and it is a daily practice that keeps me sane. And I really enjoy showing other artists and budding artists what I love doing and why. My aim is to bring to you simple videos which are not over produced and artificial. Just the basics of art that gets to the point. If you love my style and enjoy what you see here, do consider checking my Patreon account (links in the description box on each video) where you can see longer videos and much more arty content. I would love you to join our growing community. And in the mean time, enjoy what you see here and don't forget to subscribe and leave me a like and a comment.
I got those markers for my son a few weeks ago. I tried them then bought a set for myself as I like that they are juicy and not so opaque :) My favourite season is Autumn too. I thought I could hear a lovely Australian accent :) Love you work! Gonna watch another of your video while my dogs have their afternoon nap😊
I don't own any of these products - sadly - as I do love the effect! It reminds me of some white china vases my grandmother had in her bedroom, with painted images of country scenery, in the same shades. I really like the waxy sheen to the painting.
My mum was a china painter and I have memories of that waxy look too on scenery! It was completely a happy accident but I can see myself doing it again. Deb xx
Fun to see these products used with an artful technique. I’ve not been overly impressed with the. Holtz line, so this is intriguing. Like you, I MUST slow down my buying. I’m quite sure I could successfully create with what I own until I die lol.
Lol, and we could BOTH live to 200+ years without really needing another pencil! I actually love the Tim Holtz line and I am severely under using it at the moment. I am glad that you enjoyed seeing a new perspective on what we have available. D xx
I found a set of Deco Art brushes over here in the US- but couldn't find the "traditions" variety- the one I got has 2 blender brushes however, and I really do love how I can lay down gouache with them- so thanks!! would you ever consider making a video of what colors are in your paint palette?
I am starting to think that the Traditions brand name is no more. The dome blenders, thank goodness do seem to still be around. I am so pleased that you got good results with them. Bit of a game changer! I am actually going to make that very video at some point soon! Deb xx
Hi Shirley! That one is a Fabriano mixed media paper. About 300gsm by the feel of it. Really worth looking for. I love that it comes in a large sheet and is really quite cheap. Deb xx
Hi 🌹 I'm sorry to say this here on the comment sention. But Don't get me wrong okay, I mean no harm to you neither would I let any arms get close to you never, I really want to be honest Ever since I came across your profile I can't get my mind of it and I will like to be close friends with you. Well I'm originally from Denmark and now I work here in Edinburg Scotland but my family lives in Michigan Eastpointe usa. Marilyn can i make a good friendship with you! I think it will be nice asking first before sending you a request
I have a theory on your working right to left. Your right brain is doing its job being creative and the left brain is being suppressed. As artists, we all want to suppress that annoying left side that tells us to draw trees as lollipops. I say rejoice in that right brain flow state and embrace any smudges!
That is more than likely it- I was a scientist in a past life (well a lot earlier in this one :D) and there might be remnants left. Long live the smudges! Deb xx
I love your mix of some of my own favorite supplies. Neocolor11 is the most surprising to me and gouache second. The metallic markers have their place. My own newest love is watercolor but I have a dislike for pencils and would switch them out for markers. Love your work!
You've got a beautiful sketchbook! I particularly like the way you do the flowers in the foreground. I only keep one sketchbook at a time and the downside to that is that there is no cohesion between pages. I have warm up pages of scribbled marks next to creature designs next to figure studies next to landscapes. It's a perfectly fine way to use a sketchbook but it wouldn't look nice AT ALL for a video like this.
Thank you so much! Mind you, it sounds as though you are keeping your sketchbook 'properly'. I use mine for finished pieces and I started that in a vain attempt to stop filling the walls. I get an idea for a sketch ind in it goes :D Deb xx
Such beautiful art!! ❤ And I never knew that a collage could look like that 😮 I have only seen the ones that are cut out magazine pics or with stickers. But you made true art there!! My favorite pic was that very green one with the purple (lily pads? Flowers??) In the water. So beautiful!! ❤
Thank you so much! Actually I am with you! I always avoided collage because it was, as you say just magazine cutouts etc. And the message wasn't what I wanted to say either (it always seemed to have a message). So one day I had a play.....D xx
Thank you! No reason at all- the main reason that i don't use watercolour is that i love the granulating watercolours and it seems a shame to cover it all up so thoroughly! I get going with my layers and totally forget that I was not going to obscure the substrate :D Deb xx
This was such an interesting comparison/contrast. Your older style has an almost folk art style that is lovely. The more recent style has such lovely movement and texture. I love that you have found a style that brings you joy and creative satisfaction.
Thank you! Interesting that you mention Folk Art- the name of my channel (and wider business) is a link to my earliest art roots which were teaching Folk Art. I love the naive style but interesting that I have moved so far from it now. D xx
Funny enough it is simply a cheap watercolour palette from Amazon. It seals pretty well but sometimes the paint dors flake a crack- a spray with water and then closing the palette really helps. D xx
I LOVE this!! I was just playing last night with my new Derwent drawing pencils and trying to figure out how to do some mixed media. This is very inspiring.Thank you.
I bought the drawing set a couple of weeks ago to compliment the graphitint set and oh boy.... aren't these the most delicious moody creamy colours! I might have become very biased though because everything Derwent makes is fabulous and I want to own all their sets. I don't think I will be switching to another brand any time soon. Love love love! Also love your video, I'm a big fan of mixed media as well, you're one of my fav. creators at the moment. Your style is very unique. Thanks for uploading!
Aw thank you, that is so nice of you to say! I love Derwent too- in my eyes they can do no wrong. I think that it might be time to do a Graphitint Fave 5 too....D xx
I appreciate your comment about the “ugly stage” or sometimes it’s just not your day. Sometimes, especially when I’m practicing a newish technique, I feel like I’ve lost all ability. Repeated messes are sometimes hard on the confidence. Love the end results you get!
I wonder how many good paintings (not to mention good artists) are lost in the ugly stage! More should be said about it so that artists do not lose confidence, especially with a new technique. I am so pleased that you enjoyed the end result of my Mess :D Deb xx
I hope we might consider doing a hummingbird on your Patreon. Also love the idea of a fish. These are stunning. I did purchase this set earlier last week as they seemed to be some of the best I have seen. I don’t have a lot of use for metallics but nice to have when the need arises. I imagine they would be good for card making as well.
Consider it considered! I think that a hummingbird and a fish would make really nice subjects especially because we don't always have such perfect subjects for metallic colours. They don't get used too much but when they are needed, simply nothing else will do. Actually, funny that you mention card making- I am side- eying the possibilities! Deb xx
Hi Debbie, another great video, I watched and arted along with you. so much fun thank you. I heard you mention you were from Australia, I live in Tassie. ❤
I followed along using my Derwent range of colours, I don't own the lightfast...really enjoyed the tutorial and got a reasonable result.....thanks for your teaching 😊
Thank you so much! Lovely to hear that you arted along too. Any of the lovely coloured pencils around will give pretty good results. I am happy to hear that the outcome was good and you are most welcome. Deb xx
I am unsure whether I simply missed the information or not, but can you tell me if the pastel pencils are available to purchase oven stock? As they use a number system, over a name system, it looks as though they do, or perhaps hope to in the future?
An excellent question! At the moment, they are not available open stock sadly but I will ask next time I am speaking to them and see if it is on the horizon. Deb xx
