I tell a range of stories from Ireland, many of them lost or forgotten, that are structured into the playlists. All footage is my own except for historical pictures and occasional fair use video which is used under creative content licence, as too is any music I use. I do all this as a creative outlet and I now only post when I've got the time and more importantly the motivation! If you wish to contribute to my work please follow the link below to "Buy me a coffee". In any event, thanks for watching.
*Please remember this all takes a lot of work (about 15hrs per video!), so disrespectful and "smart Alec" comments will be deleted*
legendary names of those who had them id bet.i have a sneeking suspicion that some irish text are to be found in the vatican or by some english nobility abd well forgotten. is there any sources written by the ancient greeks, i saw a guy named aman hillman on a podcast he classical greek texts book have not been read by people in a thousand years. p.s. hillmans work isnt for everyone just saying, hes only reading old books
This just showed up in my feed. I was down on the Hook Peninsula last month and stopped at the church ruins - I’ll have to go back now and check out the grave. I look forward to watching your other videos - very well done. I’ll recommend your channel to my few friends on Mastodon - there are history and Irish interest guys there.
I was exhilarated to hear mention of wicklow in the retelling of this battle. I was aware of the battle of the bloody banks in bray 1402 where O'Bryne and Maher clans were slaugthered. I was not aware of the succesful battle of Glenmalure by the O'Brynes. A follow up to this story might be the retelling of the story of the nephew of the famous Owen Roe O'Neill the 5th Earl of Tyrone Hugh Duff O'Neill and the seige of Clonmel by Cromwell, where under the leadership of Hugh Duff O'Neill the Irish Army delivered the greatest military defeat to Cromwells new model army, and the single greatest loss of soldiers, 2500 killed. The single only defeat of Cromwell in all his military land campaigns.
I don't have the context to understand who is who and where the holy land is. Is the claim that Christian crusaders killed Irish people in the name of spreading Christianity?
Thanks for your input. The "Holy Land" is traditionally synonymous with the biblical land of Israel and the region of Palestine. The military orders such as the Knights Hospitaller were sworn to protect Christian lives in the Holy Land, yet when stationed in Ireland took up arms against the Christian native Irish.
Had the misfortune of witnessing with my own eyes the blighted sights of the Wicklow Mountains recently.. good god nothing but disgusting Spruce and Sheep! it's like the Scouring of the Shire and after a sad depressing mountain drive through the old O'Bryne country you come across a remnant of the majesty of what the mountains used to look like in Glen daLough, where for 2or3 miles set aside for tourists it has beautiful scenery of native woodland and afterwards it's more bleak almost lifeless English made and Irish maintained landscape of oppression and sadness imo.
@@primalireland-histcult I’d say that was amazing, i grew up in The Curragh camp as my father was in the army, it really was a brilliant film, a lot of people i know worked as extras on it, my older brother worked as a runner on the set, good times.
As an O’Byrne who has recently returned from do United States to Ireland was quite honoured to watch this video ; My son is named Fíach; was always aware of the O’Byrne history. I know of three Fíach O’Byrne’s. Very interesting. Ironically there are so few of us left as they seem to be scattered around the world.
What about the stones on the dublin mountians near the top?Or the spiral stone work piece near there to the right of the main entrance? The stones on the very could be glacial deposits.Or mb they were put there by dublin corp or mb by ancient locals?
Even though you come off as a toff, you are the worst sort of Irishman. You'd swear England won the Anglo Irish war by the resentful way you talk. My priests in the 80s talked that way. And ira psychopaths followed in their footsteps. Read some thousands of foreign histories, and then return to your own scéal with a refreshed palate.
Great historical vlog, everyone check out the song Follow me up to Carlow, lots of versions, but I'd recommend the Bards version. As a Briton of direct Irish descent I love Irish, English, Scottish and Welsh history. 🏴🏴🏴🇮🇪🇬🇧
@@primalireland-histcult Its a small world when you are a Byrne, but a great world . I'm a Byrne of Avondale father ,meetings of waters avoca grandad ,Glenmalure great grandad. I could be related distantly who knows .
@@primalireland-histcult In 1583, Gerald Fitzgerald, 15th Earl of Desmond, was murdered & his head sent to QE I as she ordered. (We looked up the date to make sure. It was not a decade later; it was just 3 years later) We know our first Norman ancestor to arrive in Ireland was Maurice Fitzgerald, and our first Irish ancestors to emigrate to America were 2 boys with just the rags they wore as clothing escaping the potato famine. We have much to research in-between. Maurice Fitzgerald's blood ran in both the murdered Earl and the boys...
