I make unscripted videos about video games. Action games are my jam. I mainly focus on gameplay, and usually get pretty long-winded covering all the little intricacies of how a game works and what makes it awesome. But I also do videos breaking down game stories in similarly exhaustive detail. I also like to talk about random interesting topics that pertain to games as a whole. And sometime I just like to highlight cool games that are worth checking out. I also stream as a fun way to hang out with my audience. If that all sounds cool to you, and you like the laid-back feel of just friends talking games, you've come to the right place.
Been a huge 2D Mario fan since I was a kid, played them all and always play the new releases. Never really got into Sonic, always preferred Mario. So I skimmed through the comments and was expecting to disagree with most of your video, and instead found myself agreeing with almost everything, including your thoughts on Mario World (being overrated) and Mario U (being underrated). On the subject of NSMB U - Jeremy Parish had a great article on Polygon where he ranked the 2D Mario games and he put NSMB U as #1, which as you can imagine sparked a lot of strong negative reactions. Now that I think about it, it's probably my #1 too, or at least tied with SMB3 and the original SMB. Thanks for the great video.
The reason you find Trip so fascinating to you is not only does it carry the spark from the original genesis Sonic games but that lizuka managed to craft another well compelling character that is not only simple but complex in how it is handled metaphorically and subtly and how it fits on par with the series staple of making positive differences that is akin to how Sonic's actions have a positive affect to the people around him, which is evident when Amy starts to allow Trip to open up, to not let her insecurities get the better of her, and for her to stand up against those who don't understand the real her underneath that armor she's been shelling herself I think the sentiment that Trip's story is a rehash of 3&K sounds like people looking down on the story at surface level, I think you did a gj trying to point out based on what was available from evidences not only in the game but also in the comics and animated shorts and cutscenes
I liked the video and I do think you bring up a good point, but I think to put it simply the reason why the way it is to keep the brands stand out and separate, is if Classic-only characters appeared in Modern then what’s the point with keeping Classic around, and SEGA still wants to keep Classic Sonic around cause it still makes them money (well they are probably not gonna do much with him after Superstars sales) But after recent events like how TailsTube and the Fang 30th anniversary comic confirms Knuckles Chaotix is indeed canon on top of all that Vector making a small cameo in the Amy 30th anniversary comic, it seems like the Classic Chaotix is slowly making a comeback and SEGA is slowly opening up to Knuckles Chaotix, I think it was canon before because of Knuckles’ Chaotix poor reception and SEGA doesn’t want anything to do with it at the time, but with the announcement of a Knuckles 30th comic by IDW that should be coming out around October is where I think we will finally and properly see the return of the Classic Chaotix, with the only difference being that the Classic Chaotix’s characterization and personality will be more in line with how they are in Modern.
Too bad Sega sabotaged the game, AGAIN!! They forced Epic Games accounts for multiplayer on Steam. I literally canceled my Switch preorder because of it even though it didn't affect the Switch's online multiplayer, only Steam. I have a Steam Deck and a gaming pc I built that has been using Steam for nearly 20 years now, so I was extremely, extremely offended. Especially after Sega had screwed with the sacred Classic Sonic physics in Forces, messing it up, ruining Mania's story to tie in to fake double boost to win, aka lazy Sonic Generations 2, while making Sonic Team develop limited time, region exclusive mobile Sonic Runners, and Puyo Puyo Tetris, the latter was extremely successful. Now Sega won't take my money, 60-80 dollars, for a Steam or Switch version of Sonic Dream Team! Sega is ALWAYS SABOTAGING SONIC! (Sonic X-treme, Sonic the Hedgehog 2006, Boom: Rise of Lyric was sabotaged and rushed out to backstab Nintendo and get out of the Wii U contract of 3 Sonic games, and Boom: Rise of Lyric was developed by Chris Senn who was previously betrayed and nearly died trying to release Sonic X-treme almost single-handedly) Screw Sega! Using Roblox and microtransactions in Sonic Jump, Dash etc, to exploit children into incurring severe credit card debt and gambling habits, too!!???
I love the Autism lizard. She honestly has the best design of any Sonic character since Blaze. Would love to see her in a modern format but I'm also glad we're getting more classic female characters.
Sonic the Fighters (aka Sonic Championship) is so much better than Sonic Battle because Sonic Battle plays nothling like an arcade-styled fighting game. And speaking of Sonic Battle, that game needs a remake and the remade version of Sonic Battle needs the Sonic the Fighters/Sonic Championship treatment. In other words, Sonic Battle on the GBA back in the days was all gimmick and less skill and Sonic Battle was a combination of Power Stone and Super Smash Bros. in the of world Sonic the Hedgehog.
So after all your zelda videos - which you stopped producing 1 year+ ago for some reason - I still don't know what your most favorite zelda game is. Majoras Mask is "up there somewhere", that's what I found out at least. I can only assume that BotW or Totk (despite having lackluster dungeons) might be your favorites, but who knows... except for yourself of course.
I love your entire rewrite of Elise and Sonic’s Relationship turn Sonally idea, even if it’s just a joke. This is why I prefer Sonally over Sonamy. Sonic teaches Sally about the joys of being free as the wind and Sally teaches Sonic about responsibility.
19:16 well... Actually no, only in 4 out of the 11 dungeons! For the most bosses you don't need the dungeon item. It's just eastern palace, Level 1,2 and 3, that's it, and mothula can even be beat without it, so it's just three dungeon bosses.
My main complaint about p06 currently (besides the performance, but optimization comes later on during development anyway) is the level quantity, these characters are so damn fun and i adore how well they play, but there just isnt enough levels for most of them. The only ones that get a satisfying amount of playtime are the main 3 hedgehogs. Im hoping when this project gets finished people will start modding in and making more (quality) levels for the characters.
hey about the sonic 4 games, the best way for sonic 4 ep 1 is the mobile version. its cheaper and newer, and if you want to play sonic 4 ep1 in your pc, just get a android emulator or dual boot your pc with androidx86. (though in some countries like Germany sega dosent give people mobile games) idk what about sonic 4 ep2 though
Sega/sonic team should really end the Sonic series like it's pokemon journeys with ash, and just move on to Silver and do Silver stuff for now on, like what frontiers was doing. Jesus wtf was frontiers doing with sonic?
Sometimes its nice to have minigames with some variety , even to an extreme. There are games that have totally different games included to them, which also serve as taking a break in a different way without stopping to play the game. It can also make the game feel more lively with stuff to do apart from the coregameplay. As an example: the cardgames in the final Fantasy games and witcher 3 are so much fun! I love them to death, its so addictive. And since its an implemented minigame, that also the NPCs play in the gameworld, it makes the world and NPCs more living. I wouldnt buy a seperate cardgame like that. It fits better to include them into those RPGs as sidecontent and also serves the purpose as a collectible quest, trying to get all the cards in the game. But yes, a cranegame is NOT a substitute for that. And the fishing game in this game here can be a pain in the ass ^^
Sonic riding a bicycle would make sense, he can use the pedals, and his friends can ride along with him on the bicycle. Same with a car that has pedals, I believe something like that was in Sonic Boom
How about Metal Sonic being a parody of 90s American Sonic because he doesn't understand who Sonic is, or just embodies the traits that people think real Sonic has that he doesn't, like extreme cockiness and bragging
Actually the sword "techniques" (directions, swings, stabs) DO make a difference. Its a pity that you have to find it out by yourself, its kinda cryptic. For example, fighting against shadow link can be a total different experience when you change your fighting style. EDIT: ok you talked about a lot of stuff after ^^
I was one of those people who never really cared about pinball. I always thought it was too random and I hated the lack of control you get over the ball. Then when I played Sonic Spinball it kind of changed my mind. I was so invested in making it to the top of the board. I realized that every Sonic game was essentially playing pinball while controlling a ball that had legs. I feel like some game styles are an acquired taste...and you have to be exposed to it under the right circumstances to get you invested.
i think it's bizarre that you're saying you hate the fishing in ocarina of time. you sound pretty stupid saying a game would be objectively better without a section because you don't like doing it even though it's fully optional
Eggman was always supposed to have genuine affable/noble qualities. His bios reflect it and so does Ohshima's twitter. He was not designed to be robo Hitler Dr. Weil or Jack Horner/The Joker since he's supposed to believe his actions are upgrading the world. The problem with Sage is that she makes Eggman act OOC in the Eng script (he was never shown to treat any of his robots that way in the actual games) and even in the JP script there's nothing to show that Sage would be someone Eggman would risk his life for.
13:36 This is because Doctor Gerald Robotnik, aka Eggman’s grandpa and Shadow’s creator modeled him after Sonic (technically). Dr. Gerald probably visited Angel Island and saw the Echidna’s mural that prophesies Super Sonic fighting Eggman on the island. Gerald sees this mural and thinks “Dang, this mythical creature (Super Sonic) looks insanely powerful.” So when Gerald makes the Ultimate Life Form, Shadow, he thinks of the mural and models Shadow after Super Sonic. So when Shadow is born he is made to emulate Sonic.
I don’t think you actually GRASP how Word of God works, and Death of the Author OBJECTIVELY does not exist. Yes Sonic can move at the speed of light, no that statement doesn’t make sense, no it doesn’t matter that it doesn’t make sense. Yes, there are ONLY 7 Chaos Emeralds, not it doesn’t matter we’ve seen more, and they’ve moved around, and had legends about them multiple places.
I agree wholeheartedly Eggmanland isn’t as difficult as people make it out to be, but specifically S-ranking it can be a pain considering one death outright abolishes your score
The big issue that I have with this Classic/Modern divide in the franchise is that it's all just unnecessary labels. It's also kind of unfair when people are stuck in this mindset of "Classic=Good, Modern=Bad!" It's like whenever I hear people gushing over Classic Sonic and berating Modern Sonic, they'll say things like "Oh Classic Sonic is so much betterer than Modern Sonic cos he has betterer gameplay! Classic Sonic is betterer cos he's more consistent! He's betterer cos he doesn't talk and say cringey things like Baldy Nose Hair!" Whenever I hear this I can't help but wonder if people actually think that Modern Sonic must be all of these things. It's like they need to have this other version of Sonic that's "inferior" to justify how good their "perfect" Classic Sonic is. If people don't like Sonic talking, then why can't they make a game where Modern Sonic doesn't talk? If they prefer the 2D gameplay and aesthetics of the older games, then make a game with those things with Modern Sonic! Is it really all down to Sonic's goddamn eye colour? It's ridiculous! Nobody is complaining to Nintendo about Mario. "I don't like Mario in Blue Overalls! The Mario that I remember had Red Overalls! Where's MY Mario? I don't want that stinky Blue Overall wearing imposter!" And if they did, Nintendo would have the sense to just ignore these whiners.
