This is a channel that is going to be focusing on bushcraft, outdoors, history and aviation primarily focusing on Warwickshire. We will of course be visiting some of the other great counties and be exploring some interesting walks and days out. I plan for it to be quit varied and relay a lot of my interests but most of all promote an interest in our wonderful and varied England and help to connect with our surroundings. We are part of nature and nature is us!
I wonder if I was at the scouting event. I'm a leader near to you I think (Balsall Common) and it was the county squirrel, beaver and cub camp a couple of weekends ago. Noise was comparable anyway!
@@brethren4life152 hi there. You could swap it for the original stainless bcb army mug. See link below. Sometimes I use it instead of the plastic one. ATB 🏕🍻 www.amazon.co.uk/Bushcraft-BCB-Crusader-Cup-Canteen/dp/B00CQH2NE6 AT
I did the first burn in mine yesterday... but I used charcoal and grilled a steak. It worked well for that and will do wood next. I was also trying a new gas stove arrangement so boiled up some potato, carrots and broccoli to complete the meal. Thanks for this video.
It's been an odd summer for sure. Some good purchases there though - I like the beanie and the hammock looks divine. Re-the crusader it has to be a favourite of mine - could chuck anything at it and it will still cook. Well, I trust you're well. Mark
@@steveproud2893 thank you very much. It just takes a push doesn’t it. I have been a bit lazy recently but went walking this weekend in Bakewell. Legs stiff today but well worth it. ATB🏕🍻
If you don't smoke now I would advise you not to start up with a pipe cigar cigarettes, chewing or anything. I have been teaching meditation and relaxation for over 50 years and stopping tobacco once started is according to my clients the hardest thing they've ever done even harder than stopping cocaine. I am an x user of nicotine I wouldn't start if I were you.
There is a reason the BEST bushcraft knives come witha 3mm and never 4mm or thicker scandi (Moras, Ben Oford, Rob Evans to name some). In my experience, no matter what grind or angle you put on a scandi, if it's 4mm and thicker, it simply doesn't work as good as a scandi with around 3mm thick blade. Add to that, that Scandis by nature, they suck at most other tasks, other than working wood. So, a 4mm or thicker blade with a scandi, makes things even worse for other tasks too.3mm to 3.2mm is perfection, 3.4mm is acceptable for a Bushcraft knife, for a utliitly knife, that you like to choose a scandi, then the thener the blade the better.
Nice review on the firebox, bro. 👍 And to your question, no to the pipe! 😂 If you can when out in nature, give a nice cold plunge a go, followed by some deep breath works. The cold plunge will come as quite the shock 🤣, but you’ll find it more meditative, beneficial, and wonderful than puffing a pipe.
@@warwickshireoutdoors you’re getting the solid double benefit from both the heat and cold. 👍 So awesome! I haven’t been able to rotate in the sauna time, unfortunately.
Nice, bro. 👍 Just subbed to your channel. 👍 Thanks for sharing the vid. I love my Frontline Hammock and DD tarp. I don’t have their under blanket, but have the Snugpack under blanket and it works great with my DD setup.
Yeh I definitely plan to use mine more this year. I just bought the whoppie slings from DD whilst at the bushcraft show. Plan to fit them this weekend. 🏕🍻
Ah, a sweet camp there Anthony. I too love that liminal space where one part of the day is fading and another is being ushered in. It's magical. A nice set up - a shame about the sleep. Well, the bluebell wood was looking splendid. It put a smile on your face on the way out. All the best. Mark
Cheers. I don’t mind not sleeping too much when I’m out. I like looking around at night. Mind you at my age it takes a while to recover from a late night. Not like when I was younger!!😁🏕🍻
Always enjoy your videos. I prefer a stretcher bed to sleep on, above a groundsheet, tarp above, and a quilt. Sleeping bags are too constrictive for me. ATB!
Hi mate to be fair, I sleep on the floor as well. Until about two years ago. An I loved it. Did it in summer and winter.. But still like in a tent 🤣🤣. Top man keep it up mate your doing great. Atb Andy
Cracking video mate. I just ordered a crusader yesterday and can't wait to get it. I was going to use my trangia but now I might get those blocks. A real space saver. Also, hats off to you and your tarp. Gotta love a tarp!
As a kid I was in the Marine cadets and we always used our squeezed out teabags to clean of the bottoms of our mess tins after cooking with them. I remember how it cleaned off the soot very well. The bags quickly split and the loose tea had a good gentle abrasive action. Our steel mess tins were always shiny enough to shave with.......had we been old enough to shave !
I smoke a pipe when camping. No other time do I smoke tobacco. It’s nice and almost meditative. Ceremonial tobacco use goes back thousands of years. You should look into what local plants were smoked in your area. Where I live there are several plants that were mixed with wild tobacco. I love the taste of Labrador tea mixed with the tobacco I grow. I get tobacco seed from our yearly seed sale. The strain of tobacco has been cultivated in the pacific west coast since pre-history, and is called 10,000 year old tobacco.
Good to see you out and about again. Hopefully you will be repeating this outing again soon. Thank you for making this video and sharing it. Stay well, stay safe.... Helen and Katarin Juska-Law and Terri with Robyn (East Anglian fenlands)
They are weighty. I tend to put my Bushbox in the pouch where the frame of my ruck sack goes so it’s close to my back. I’m not sure which is heavier but I’ll have to see. ATB🏕🍻
Thanks for the video. I'm always fascinated by that kettle of yours. Which one is it? I'm a pipe smoker. Calms you right down. Nothing like a good coffee, and a smoke. Get a good one. Like a Peterson - they are not cheap, and the best quality tobacco you can find (not supermarket stuff). Then learn the howto's of it. Lots of YT videos on that. And persevere a bit until you get the hang of it. You'll be greatly rewarded. ATB from RSA.
Thank you very much. It’s an Eagle Products kettle. I got mine from Woodlore the Ray Mears online shop. They are from Norway I think. I do like the look of Peterson pipes! Thanks for the advice and ATB. 🍻🏕
Glad to see you doing well. I suffer with lack of motivation now and again. That first step is always the hardest but I always ask myself why I didn’t do things sooner once I get myself out again. I also have taken up smoking a pipe just a few years ago. Most pipe smokers will say it’s a very mindful process forcing you to slow down and focus on breathing. It’s a fantastic pastime but can quickly become a rabbit hole of more pipes and tobacco’s to try. Get a cheap corncob and a tobacco sample and give it a try.
Cheers mate. Great to hear from you. Yes it’s about making good habits stick isn’t it and motivation. Thanks for the pipe advice. I know what you mean about once you get out. It’s like exercising! ATB🍻🏕
Thanks for sharing I smoke a pipe if you log on ytpc on you tube you'll find all the advice you require I'd start off with a savinelli go on GQ Tabacco smoke-,king all what you need if you need more help just ask take it easy
@@warwickshireoutdoors New Sub from across the Pond in Texas i too have the Anxiety Depression and CPTSD and newly diagnosed with NR-Axspa (autoimmune disease) at 36....i understand what that feels like stay in the woods and stay in the therapy of you can look in to TMS (Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) Therapy) its greatly helped me with mine i still have bouts but its no where near like the old darkness 😇🤗 be well!
Hi mate. Possibly. I think my brother did say it came down from Scotland although I may have imagined it. It was a while ago. He has sold his share now as he didn’t think it was good for his back.
I can't open the top up seriously I pressed the button and nothing and I've got two of them I also have the tube butane lighters and I can't open those either I have a vision problem
Haven’t used mine for a while. As far as I remember you pull down the metal clip then press the button on the side and it flips open. I hope you sort it out. ATB. If I come across mine I’ll have a look. 🍻🏕
@@warwickshireoutdoors Yeah iit only puts out like one small spark if I really hammer it. The good ones will put out a shower of sparks if you use them right, Probably the issue is in what the romans called high carbon steel and what is labelled high carbon steel today, which is actually very low carbon steel for this purpose. The carbon content needs to be about 20%, which today would probably be called pig iron. I can get batter sparks just hitting a rock with my framing hammer. I bought this for my bug out bag, so not as a toy but as a legitimate alternative to the many other fire starting methods in my pack, like matches, lighters, magnesium strips, steel wool, batteries, etc.
i got a hand made flint striker and a esee striker i have seen these convy sg 5 flint strikers on amazon for a few bucks i almost bought one a few years ago intel someone made a striker from a file im glad to no it works and well great video you will fall in love with flint steel i have over a ferro rod great video you get my sub

I love the design , the red options concept and J love red 1000 D 😍I've had a platatac daily use for about 15 yrs...retreated once with grangers performance plus...its bullet proof. Here in Oz it's going to get about $270 for the pack and about $70 each for molle panels or 12 ltr side pockets. I'm sure it will be worth the $s👍 Ps...hope you all got thru the damage virus OK Cheers Neil
Cheers mate. Thanks for watching the film. Yes the family came through things ok thank you. It was tough at work though and seems like a long time ago now. ATB🍻🏕
@@warwickshireoutdoors yes they do , I have 2 woodlanders both in 01 tool steel 1st purple Yew black & white liners 4” 2nd Mauser Birch (white) black liners 3.5”. . Both 3.2mm scandi grinds 2 x sloyd knifes 3” & 4” 2 x spoon knives 4 x field neck knifes Bens Sharpening Set full kit. Been using Bens gear for a hot minute now & it work’s excellent 👌.
Thanks. I think they were the thicker ones. I tried the elementary knife and found it a little thin. The liners made it better for me. I also requested the 4 mm width blade. Thanks for watching. 🏕🍻
Very nice kit. Definitely use a bigger metal box for making char cloth. Suggestion: use 100% cotton washcloth material cut into sizes and slow cook the cloth on hot coals or a mini sterno stove.👍🏼👍🏼
It was issued to all brances of the uk armed forces, icluding reserve and cadets also. Its for brewing tea, ad making basic food compo rations on task, nothing fancy. Its just basic its not for ambitious cooking as you get in a field kitchen. To avoid having to clean everything foreever with soot build up. Put tin foil under cooking pot.
