There are four names always on or near the top of the list of all time great Rock ‘n’ Roll bands: The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin and The Who.
The Who were formed by sheet-metal worker Roger Daltrey in 1963. The line up, after a couple of adjustments, established itself with Daltrey on lead vocals, Keith Moon on drums, John Entwistle on bass guitar and Pete Townshend on lead guitar. Townshend, honouring his art student credentials, writes music famous for having an ‘edge’, complemented by the wildly creative performance techniques of each member of the band.
Oh god! No!! Just leave it alone. The album was great, the film a bit lame, the documentaries and books were farcical. It's just a monetizing shit show now. I can't wait for Quadrophenia on Ice or maybe it's time for Quadriplegic Quadrophenia. Just stop it
As a long time Who fan, having seen the original lineup only once in 1976, and several times since then over the years, last time in 2014 happily taking my young adult daughters to see a them do Quad, I will have to say this... respectfully, I am not interested in any more "Who" shows, or plays, or this type of reworking. The only thing that would be Awesome would be quality Live perfomances on film from their early days through the 1970's until Kieth passed away, And if there is any studio footage of them working on albums in those days. Perhaps a quality rockudrama based on them, or Moon as well. Honestly, Daltrey's voice is almost unbearable now, and Pete on stage doesn't seem to want to focus on musicality as much as flayling about, letting a 150 other musicians fill out the sound. I love the Who, but lets respect what they did before as a 4 piece band. The albums speak for themselves, and finding some live concerts that haven't been seen and "remastering" them would be great. No more Plays, musicals, etc. for me, thank you!
As a 70's street fighting lad I'd say WTF? But as a much more mature appreciater of the arts in my 60's (I've got the scars from falling down) I say Bravo! Another innovative art medium used to enjoy (as well as dare I say:) experience the genius of PETE TOWNSHEND'S THE 'WHO'. I'll reserve critiques until I've seen it... Never-the-Less...if it's TOWNSHEND... It's gonna be great! LONG LIVE ROCK! LONG LIVE THE WHO! (Send those free tickets to:....)
I've got a good job, and I'm newly born You should see me dressed up in my uniform I work in hotel, all gilt, and flash Remember the gaff, where the doors we smashed?
Pete's small audience were either massively underwhelmed judging by their lack of movement, or just dumb struck by his sheer passion and musical genius.
The greatest Rock n Roll band in the world release this, a track will balls. The others released Living in a Ghost Town. You decide who deserves the title of greatest?. I know where my money is.
I remember this tragedy. I was in high school at the time in Utah.. But I remember it... I remember I saw people on the news Wearing t-shirts that read "" I survived THE WHO concert"" weird.. But that stands clear in my mind. P.S Roger I love you.
I have a vague memory of the grief on Roger's face following the Who show in New Haven a couple of weeks after this tragedy. God bless him and the other members of the Who, wherever they are. God bless all those who lost their loved ones that night.
Roger is a class act. He didn't have to do that, but he did. He may be a rock legend, but he's just a person like the rest of us with feelings and emotions. He showed that he cared about those that lost their lives and to those that survived. Bless you.
