Hi, I'm a film history nut and improv actor, among many many other things. On this channel, I dig up classic TV, documentaries, and archival footage and share it.
The Jack Benny Program is originally before my time, but I enjoyed many of these episodes in the '80s when our local TV station re-ran the show. Great memories! ❤️
Saw this series as a kid when it aired. He was one of my favorites growing up. Self deprecating humor is one of the highest forms of comedy in our opinion. Mr. Benny set up the story here to use himself as the punchline so to speak. I can see why he was one of my favorites. Many of today's younger writers and entertainers could probably learn a few things watching this man and his team work. Cheers.
The visitor from Samara was played by the late great Nel Blanc who but only did the voices for ALL the Looney Tunes characters but also Barney Rubble. He appeared as a regular one Jack Benny's radio AND TV shows appearing as dozens of different characters. He was a riot! This is one of his funniest bits. Another fan favorite is the crying cab driver who would never drop his passengers at the bus or train station or airport because he hated to say goodbye and cried the entire time!
I remember watching these back in the 1980s with my parents. They aired late at night on CBN (the 700 club) channel along with I Married Joan, Laurel and Hardy and something else. Brings back memories.
21:03 = I know Jack's supposed to be playing his violin poorly, but for some reason I don't think he sounds that bad. But, maybe that's because he only got through the first few notes before everybody kept interrupting him. And yes, I know what good violin playing sounds like. I'e heard Lindsey Sterling play.
Memorable film. And I wonder if this material, with technology being what it is today, can't be restored. It is degrading over time and is likely to continue to do so, on into the future. Then it will be gone altogether. Sorry to paint such a dark picture.

My father and Dennis Day were business partners in a record company. You see, my dad sold Mr. Day's LPs in his drug stores. And they sold so well, so he asked Dennis to partner with him in a business venture. And Dennis Day agreed. He was a very nice man...with eleven children!
