Hey, I'm Trend (or Trend Fox) and I roam the internet looking for interesting topics to talk about and share my creativity. I enjoy all kinds of media such as movies, video games, anime, and TTRPGs, so if you like content like that, you will feel at home here. I hope to see you around.
Yeah, I feel like it's a bit unfair to imply that Digital Circus is all spectacle with no story. And it's super unfair to put it with Hazbin Hotel and Murder Drones. It's certainly goofy yes, but it does have a story to tell. And characters do get their own moments for them to develop. To be honest I feel it strikes a pretty good balance with comedy and serious moments.
So this had started off as a reply, but it just got way too long that I felt it should've been moved to a proper comment, especially if people wanted to see and properly respond!! I will be explaining the general nit-picks in the video that personally irked me and that I see is commonly being brought up. Apologies if this comes across as rude, my main intention here is to explain since I've noticed the creator has been asking about the nit-picks and I was hoping to provide some insight!! Also fair warning, this is most likely gonna be LONG, especially since I'm dissecting the video as I watch through it. One final thing, I do like Lackadaisy, so that may make me a bit biased. -The whole "Furry-o-meter" gimmick. It seriously came across as just needlessly making fun of furries rather than being anything of worth to the video, especially since you never really explained why the things that raised the meter were bad. Honestly it just hurt watching the meter slowly go up whenever the characters just.. Showed personality or did awkward things. -The fact that the characters knowing "smart words" or mythology needs to be explained. That you just gotta apply some cartoon logic to, yes some of it may not make sense but this is FICTION, something as trivial as this really doesn't need to be shown. There's no harm in just assuming they picked up their knowledge from somewhere either. -The exposition. This is a pilot, some exposition will be needed for those who are unfamiliar with the comic such as myself. And since this was at a similar part in the video, regarding the point of Rocky complaining about his lack of strength, I'm sorry but I thought most people were able to tell that was a lie? Characters CAN lie to get out of doing difficult things, personally I find it quite fun to watch. -The whole familial thing about Rocky and Freckle. That ESPECIALLY felt like a nit-pick, as while yes, it's perfectly fine having an issue with the dialogue, but really just over-analyzing the one line and going on about the point longer than it should've gone for was what felt nit-picky about it. -The issues with the villains(? For a lack of a better term) No, they do not have to be competent villains, that itself is a very common trope. I do very much like your idea of the scene, although it's clearly shown the characters are far more unhinged and dramatic, it wouldn't exactly make sense for them to be smart about things and to be stealthy. -The evil laughing and "psycho" behavior. It's perfectly okay to say you dislike a trope, I understand, but that's really just not a flaw with the pilot itself, more your opinion on the trope. As well, adrenaline can cause the insane laughter you keep bringing up. -"Where did you learn to drive like that??" "I didn't!" As in she didn't learn how to drive LIKE THAT. Yes she knows how to drive, but not "Like that" as Rocky described. -The villain's incompetency. Again, this is fiction, there are protagonists we want to see succeed, and having the villains kill them off right away makes no sense since we are seeing the pilot through them, there would be no plot to follow if they were dead. Because of this, the villains do have to do things that realistically don't make sense, but since this is fiction, they can get away with it. -A lot of your points here to me at least feel like opinions more than criticism or anything objective. There's nothing wrong with stating your opinions, but you do need to make that clear when making a video like this, or it will be interpreted as genuine criticism rather than opinions. -Your dislike of Rocky. Once again, this is an opinion on Rocky. You are perfectly free to dislike a character for whatever reason, although do note that the majority of the people who watched Lackadaisy like Rocky and see him as an affective character. Really just so much of the nit-picky aspects of this comes from the fact that most of your points can be dismissed by the fact that this is fiction, it can get away with unrealistic things and you do need to apply some suspension of disbelief and, as overused as the term is lately, media literacy.
Pointing out different ways the villians could be conveyed more threatening is a valid point. The tension does feel a bit unconvincing, save for a few instances. I got a bit lost on some of the "furry" character writing points. I would love a video explaining the pitfalls of that type of quirky/edgy character writing. Especially from a perspective of how to do it right. (P.S. i agree that everyone being crazy is a bit confusing. Most people I've watched this with are taken back by it. All I can tell them is, its a character choice, but it doesn't add much to the story apart from wacky spectacle.)
Alright this review seems filled with fluff, to pardon a pun, as the biggest things you criticize are not the actual plot but which character has which personality as your claims to fix this are only to a.) Swap some characters personalities and b.) Then swap their positions. There isn't much substance to the critique otherwise from here as everything else that is done are things that could have happened back in the day thanks to mobs and what was revealed whenever they got caught such as shooting up what would be worth thousands, because the goal was to remove the competition via forcefull monopoly by the crime syndicates. This in turn leads to many people who were seemingly crazy because they were under severe stress to survive mass "firings" by force.
These videos have been very helpful for the pilot me and the rest of the crew are working on. Heck one of the first thing me and let’s call them F for privacy sake talked about during the very beginning of the rewrite was the writing of the modern day animation industry and our frustrations with it. And F and our other writer have been doing a fantastic job doing their research into both writing and the topics we want to cover. And how one would portray them in a series or movie basically what this is saying is keep making these videos they are making a difference.
Jesus Christ, I cannot watch this- I thought MY videos were obnoxiously knit-picky. Seriously, It’s like this dude watched like, 2 CinemaSins videos, then just got up and said, “LOL THATS EASY I CAN DO THAT”.
Pretty nice video!. Coming from someone who worked on the pilot, this holes on the main story (or sequences going through the film) were really concerning from a personal point. Story really felt empty and characters were really hard to understand the first time I watched the full animatic (which I needed to accomplish my tasks in production). I didn't got if there was a story to tell exactly, because after all, almost all the short film was only pure action sequences and some nibbles of references to the comic. I had to read some parts of the comic itself to had a better understanding of everything... and to give the proper importance to this characters, and to keep up with a good quality work. And finally, from what I understood from the production and direction, and the team in general, it was that the main objective of this short film was more as gift to all the fans of the comic that were supporting the comic through many years, and that sounds pretty sweet. But the function of this film as a pilot with it's own "story", was something I was still questioning multiple times during my time on production. It could be better, but still understandable from a production perspective. - Anon.
If true, thanks for sharing. Once again, I am left questioning why one wouldn't try to make a complete story even if it's something for the fans. Surely if the writing of the comics is so good, that shouldn't have been a problem. The mini episodes seem to work better than the pilot.
@@RoamingTrend From what I heard (and I personally understand, not a 100% fact) from the direction crew myself in multiple voice chats, this was fully intended when they were crafting the main script for this short film. The intention was more emphasized in showcasing the attitude coming from these characters specifically and making refer multiple small parts from the main comic story. Not trying to justify it, but yeah... the comic is way more rich story wise and could be more noticeable in the pilot.
I’m saying it simply here. This is a pilot, a pilot is an introduction. It doesn’t need to explain everything nor does it have to. This isn’t the series. You can criticize a pilot that’s fine and very valid. But this is like you looking at a short story and expecting it to tell you why the character wanted to wear the specific shirt they had been wearing in the story. It introduces the character and the basic premise. This is supposed to grab your attention and want you to get into the series. Which it did for me. If it dousnt do that for you then that’s ok. But your being nit picky. You’re acting like it’s supposed to explain to you every single little detail. Your question ‘maybe I’m being overly harsh’ is true. You’re being overly harsh.
The spectrum between nothing and everything is wider than you think. The pilot had characters and those characters did things, but they never explained why or why should we care. As I said, this is not a story, it's showreel material.
@@RoamingTrend actions and the reasons behind them are explained why in the series. Pilots are literally just a prototype and are what are used to green light a series. The Steven universe or adventure time pilots have the base of the shows they become but aren’t complete. A pilot is pretty much a showreel for animation. The pilot isn’t supposed to explain everything.
@@my-nostalgia-is-horror Can you show me where in the video he said everything needs to be explained? "The entire video" So you are talking out of your ass
this video is.. perfect. well explained, concise, and made me realise my own mistakes in storytelling for my creations. woah. you're the GOAT. i can't explain how well made this video is. immediately subscribed.
my problem with HH isnt that it isnt emmy award winning, its that its not even good as a fanfiction. there are mistakes everywhere that wouldnt have happened if she followed a youtube tutorial on “how to write”
I agree with some of your critique, even though I enjoyed the pilot. One thing I really dislike in some pilots-especially in indie animation-is the unnecessary introduction of too many characters instead of focusing on the more important ones. That said, there are a few points where I disagree with your take, as some criticisms felt like nitpicking. I understand you’re not a fan of Rocky; I also think he received too much screen time that could have been shared with Pepper and Freckles, and they need to also tone him down a bit. However, I respectfully disagree with the suggestion that Freckles should be the main character, that he and Rocky should be portrayed as brothers, or that Victor should have accompanied them instead of Rocky. Personally, I prefer how it was written and executed rather than suggesting alternative directions. Even if the story had taken a different path, what truly matters to me is how well the ideas are executed.
Hey you should review crunch it doesn't have the best animation but is impresive the fact that it looks decent because this man alone did it with nothing more than a phone his neighbor computer that cant even play minecraft and only a mouse he didn't even have a keyboard and he draw this shit in ibis paint but the 100% free no virus and in the time of 4 months you know but there is no version in english for now liners said that he is planning to make a english dub for it and fun fact: one of the biggest latinoamerican lolcow that is considered to be the latinoamerican chris chan wanted to voice act in crunch you know why because he is an antagonist in the manga he is not there as a joke he is dead ass serius antagonist he beats one of the members of the main cast doomentio has more wins than almost all of the kyoto students in jujutsu kaisen and you know whats worse is that he fits in the narrative he doesn't feel that he is out of place and there is more wild shit to talk about crunch but is in spanish so maybe you wouldn't be able to watch it
I love this guy! He has a way of making it a bit more obvious that he is developing a style for his videos. Even if I don't agree with some of the criticism, everything here is a valid. Keep doing what you're doing man.
People have already left pretty good points so I’ll just leave my main two cents: The reason that a lot of the characters being “psychotic” in your opinion, is because the story is about gangsters working for a dying business that has to sell illegal alcohol. These aren’t just normal, upright citizens. Crime is almost always not for the mentally stable. Also 19:24 Mitzi’s not getting a ray of hope, she’s reminiscing about her late husband and the time when their speakeasy was more successful, during 1926, they showcase that with the scene of a glimpse into the past
Fictional writing isn’t meant to be tied to reality, they are supposed to tell the story in the most entertaining way as possible. Meaning diverse character personalities
@ I see your point, but in my opinion, the characters deemed as psychotic all have different forms of it, like how there are different forms of insanity in real life. Who says it can’t be entertaining to watch? It’s chaotic and not predictable, I don’t think anyone expected Rocky to crash the car, find a whole lotta dynamite and then start going haywire while still reciting poetry. The characters are all still distinct because lack of sanity isn’t a personality trait, it’s an issue that almost all of the characters share.
From what little I've heard about the comic, it's probably got more of the "furry comic" things in. Unless my memory is lying to me again. It does that sometimes.
I feel like Vivzie is one of those creators who hardened themselves against criticism not because of "oh, I know how good I am so this doesn't apply" types of mentalities but because she recieved so much early criticism that later criticism seemed to matter less and less, and eventually her brain turned to the "I've already had all this criticism, I don't need to listen to it anymore" mentality. I feel like this is something most creators will or have experienced at some point, and you need to actively rewire your brain to see these criticisms as something valid, and not just "something I've seen before"
This was a bad review. I'm confident to declare that to you. The reason why Rocky is a crazy character is because (since you're a Europo0r and you need to have this explained to you) the setting is Recession-in-Full-Swing USA during the Prohibition Era (late 1920s, the very beginning text, before the episode begins, tells you this). What you can gather from all of the imaginative scenes from Rocky's perspective, is that he lived a happier life and childhood from before, and still thinks about *maybe* that opportunity would come where his creative talents could get him somewhere in life. Just from Rocky's introduction short, his violin skills got him recognized enough to join Lackadaisy. Which explains the scenes where he's having disillusions of childlike places like circuses and theatre (him playing violin while citing poetry, at the beginning). Rocky is coping *really* hard in an environment that has taken a turn for the downward, in a way that doesn't really clique with the other characters, and something he has no *real* way of adapting to. *That's* what Rocky is meant to portray. He is living his own delusions, and he *never* brings any of what he's thinking up or experiencing to other characters, because *he's in his own head.* And the most Rocky is telling them is through his weird 1920s styled poetry. I'm not a Lackadaisy fan and I can pick this stuff up. It's disappointing that shows like this portray mental health in a very relatable and empathic way, despite the things they are inciting and inflicting, for the sake of character development and any other gain of some kind. I mean, you're calling the *deliberate choice of style of dialogue* being 1920s, poor exposition. Yes! A great book is the same exact thing, would you believe it? Looking up definitions for words that *may* have obsolete meanings, *might* be crucial. The episode does take a gradual amount of time to pick up on some of this stuff, with a few rewatches. Silly editing tricks masking the bad faith criticisms of this, on your behalf, is just a symptom to a bigger issue with 'avatar' styled review/essay videos, ruining this website and the internet as a whole. You're the reason why animation reviews are all gonna one day be abused with community notes. Over the most miniscule dumb stuff. You're playing on the puppet strings Hbomberguy's Plagiarism video set, where you need *literal verification of journalists* in order to make any type of video, of any genre. Not just educational or research vids. It might not hit within twenty years, but it's not a bad thing to be cautious. Anyways: Bad Review. Cry moar kid. 😎
I AGREE WITH THIS SO MUCH! THANK YOU! ESPECIALLY with the portrayal of mental state in the pilot. It’s not bad writing when a show or book or whatever shows how each characters is unique even in the way they even THINK, how they view their life. (E.i One character romanticizes the world, while the other is distrusting and negative.) They also did this with Mordecai, with the ticking clock and border as he aims his gun. It’s much less noticeable because it’s clear and straightforward, like Mordecai, unlike Rocky’s mindset which is all flashy and theatrical. The attention to almost every detail is why I love this pilot and Lackadaisy as a whole.
This video was fine as the perspective of a person who has only watched the pilot and knows nothing else. But a lot of what is complained about is actually intentional and will make more sense as the seasons role out. For example, Rocky seems unreliable, attention seeking, and unhinged because he is. He is a literal sociopath who, like most sociopaths, is a narcissist. He is also an overly curious adrenaline junkie. He is the only main character who is actually insane. He also isn't THE main character. Think of the series more like the old TV series Friends where the main character role is shared by six people. Rocky isn't the most important overall. Also, Freckles seems unhinged here but he isn't normally. He and Rocky were raised as brothers but, as a sociopath, Rocky doesn't think of him in "brotherly" terms. Freckles has been harassed and messed with by his sociopath brother most of his life. So, he has a lot of repressed anger and rage that he usually holds back except for when a situation justifiably calls for violence. 99% he is normal.
I recently watched Hazbin Hotel for the first time, and I gotta say I disagree with pretty much all your points. A lot of times, it feels like you had expected the show to be something that it wasn't really trying to be and this lead to disappointment. 1. Exposition is only bad when done in excess, to the point where it stops enjoyment of the show itself. It's pretty hard to make a show that only shows, and never tells. I do agree some of your examples, but others felt sufficiently natural ways to expose information. 2. Consistency: Each story, regardless if they are a series, movie, book or comic, can pick how far they go regarding realism. It's not really a narrative flaw that we do not know how charlie would scale her hotel to redeem enough people atm. The only rules a story should generally be forced to follow, are the ones the story itself establishes. Like if something is a problem, and them it's no longer a problem without a plausible explanation, that is a writing sin. To dive a little deeper into the examples you gave: I feel like you misunderstood the premise, Charlie is based on believing that whatever system that sends people to hell or heaven is just. If this were true, she could rehabilitate someone, heaven would accept this person and this would encourage other people to also redeem themselves. From what we learn in the end, her plan was flawed from the beginning. This is not inconsistency. Carmine Carmilla is not against war. She is against war against the angels. Turf wars between demons give her money. If the angels discover she is threat to them, it may lead to the angels exterminating her and her children. She wants to fly under the radar. Lucifer and Charlie fallout is not really explained, but I feel like they leave enough clues for the viewer to piece it together. Charlies and Lilith (during the introduction) believes Hell can prosper. Lucifer gave up on hell and is disillusioned. Therefore they have different world views and this lead drifting apart. Charlie was expecting Lucifer to be more supportive of her dream and this is the source of their conflict in this episode. It's all solved after a song, because that is how conflicts are resolved in musicals. Is it as serious as Evangelion daddy issues? Hell no. But it's fine that this is a more whimsical story. The Alastor problem I will address later on item 7. But I just wanna say not knowing if he is evil, neutral or good is part of what I like about him. 3. Convolution: I specifically liked how the plot moves fast, and keeps you on your toes. Gotta be honest, if the whole show was focused on a single sin or sinner per episode it could make it easier to follow, but it's very likely I would find it boring. 4: Much like item 2, each story, regardless if they are a series, movie, book or comic, can pick how far they follow pre established conventions. There can be different interpretations of hell and heaven. The fact this is story doesn't follow those conventions doesn't make it a flaw. 5: Again, it feels like a subversion of traditional interpretation of heaven/hell/redenption bothers you, but the show can have it's own interpretation of what hell and heaven mean here. From what we can gather from season 1, the problem is that people are thrown into hell or heaven based on how they behaved during life. If someone in hell becomes good (Angel), or someone in heaven becomes evil (adam) doesn't matter. This is why charlie and emily questions if t 6. Immaturity: I don't disagree that swearing can be too much sometimes. But here it's the juxtaposition of a whimsical musical character like Charlie, and the cartonish violence and swearing of hell generates humor. The first music: Happy Day in Hell encapsulates what the show is going for perfectly. It's Ana from frozen singing along in the worst neighborhood of Los Angeles. Overall, i feel like this is subjective. 7. Pride: To be honest, this one is where you kinda lost me totally. I did not know who VivziePop was before finishing the show. It does look like she uses too much twitter for her own good, but this is not reason to judge the show. We gotta judge it based on it's own merits, and a lot of criticism here particularly about stuff that has not been resolved this season is how it would be impossible for the show staff to solve all the mysteries they left open. But the story is not complex to a point where it's impossible to solve. To be honest, all big mysteries including Alastor feel like stuff that could be solved in a single episode. It's nothing too extravagantly complexed to the point where I doubt the author could solve (looking at you GoT books).
Here's the thing that most people don't know. The Lackadaisy "Pilot" wasn't originally meant to be a pilot at all. During the initial campaign and production, it was billed as a "short film" meant specifically for Lackadaisy fans. Tracy and her team never had any ambitions to make it a full-blown animated series yet. Therefore, the "pilot" isn't actually a pilot. Its not that the team behind LD don't know how to write- its that they were writing for a contained short-film with a focus on existing fans, not an animated pilot with broad appeal that would lead to a full series. Somewhere along the way, they decided to make it a pilot instead to see how it would perform as such, but that was very late into development. Yeah, its pretty sloppy to do it that way, but I feel like the end product is still good enough to be called a successful pilot overall. This is coming from someone who didn't read the comic before watching it, either. I honestly had no problems figuring out what was going on. However, I think this often overlooked fact would explain many of the criticisms stated in this video. And, it should also get people more excited for the actual first season, where its clear that they're adapting the comic from the beginning and going into much more detail. The first season seems to have a much better handle on things from the start, as, y'know, they're developing it as an actual series and not just an ad-hoc pilot. After reading the comic, I can say that if they pull this off, no one is going to have much to complain about anymore!
I heard a few people say this video is too nit-picky. I would like to know what do you consider as nit-picks? For me, making these videos is a learning process too. Let me know so it doesn't duplicate and maybe I can clarify them.
I think it's considered nitpicky because a lot of people like to indulge in some of the tropes you skewer. For example, the "crazy dangerous criminal" concept is something a lot of people love on the face of it. However, it only works when done right. The Lackadaisy pilot (short film actually) kind of just spams the trope. 3 out of the four characters are just crazy. And audiences really like it. It's indulgent insanity for the sake of zaniness. Additionally, the poem at the start is fun on the face of it, but makes little narrative sense. Why is he on the bridge? As lookout? IN THE DARK?? That's a result of the "dramatically expressive character trope" which basically is when characters are super dramatic for an audience...that doesn't exist in their world. My greater point is, most of your points make sense. No, having everyone laughing maniacally doesn't help. Having the villain have zero wins lowers intimidation factor (we already learn this when comparing Kang to Thanos. Thanos literally beat the Hulk and several Marvel Heroes before the 3rd act...Kang was killed by Antman. See the difference?). But people, even myself, REALLY like some of these tropes. It isn't good writing, but it IS entertaining.
I watch your videos because of their critical nature. They touch on valid points that are often looked over, and I don't know how much of that is being misinterpreted as "nitpicking". The only part you lost me was with criteria that you did not explain. (ex. Edgy or Quirky demonstrations = bad character writing) In a different light, they could be seen as attempts to create compelling or charismatic characters. I would find an explanation on where they cross the line to be very informative. Everything else was handled brilliantly.
I agree with you 100%. Id heard so much hype over this show I found myself questioning it through the whole pilot. Theres nothing to latch onto. There is no way to figure out what these cats are doing in the middle of the night etc the focus is way too heavy on spectacle and visual splendor. Its gorgeous. But as usual, just because we are a good artist doesnt also make us a great writer too. Those two traits are rarely found in the same person
> There is no way to figure out what these cats are doing in the middle of the night Does everything need to be spilled out explicitly? It's 1920s and they've digging out a crate full of booze out of the ground. It's not hard to put 2 and 2 together even if you don't know anything about the comic.
I'm sorry but this is the most nitpicky, bitchy, bad-faith review about a piece of media I have ever seen. 50% of your criticisms are the biggest reaches ever to prove that every character is an incompetent idiot and the other 50% are you blatantly misunderstanding/ignoring what is explicitly shown in the pilot episode. You have somehow decided to shovel in this “all furry media has bad writing and annoying 2000’s edgy characters” idea so hard to the point where i genuinely cannot believe that you didn’t start watching this with a biased perspective and decided what the characters were like based on that, because the way you have interpreted every character requires me to believe you disliked this story from the start to have misread them to the extent you have. Almost every single complaint in this video about the characters actions can be solved by taking into consideration that characters aren’t perfect efficient workers with 1000 iq plans and can’t perfectly predict what others are going to do. The car chase ONLY happens because Nico and Serafine want to have fun and are underestimating the rival group, and you could easily pick that up through dialogue if your mind wasn’t so clouded with this weird preconceived notion about how awful the show’s writing is. Also, your seething hatred of Rocky’s character throughout the whole review is so????? Do you seriously believe that Freckle would be a better MC because he’s more level headed? Because he makes the "right choice" more often? Do you watch shows the same way you play videogames? You complain about the show’s supposed self indulgence through Rocky, but your proposal of fixing the story is just some plain white bread narrative where Freckle is the real hero and he saves the girl. That part REALLY screamed self-indulgence. It feels like you just hate Rocky because he’s not relatable to you personally. Of course the literal criminals are going to be a little crazy and laugh in reaction to danger, they’re CRIMINALS, the writers are exaggerating the character’s emotions so we can see them at their most, because this is a PILOT. Again, it seems like you want every character here to behave like a trained, experienced CIA recruit with 0 emotions and the most rationale possible, but it seems like you don’t want that either because Mordecai is literally that and you don’t like him because he doesn’t win enough??? The episode goes to great lengths to show that the reason Mordecai’s team didn’t catch Rocky and the others was because of how unpredictable they are, but it seems that (again) your judgment was clouded by “furry write bad”, something that seems to be the most common theme in this review. Again, this is a PILOT episode, they’re trying to show as much of the story as possible. Can you really blame them for deciding to go “style over substance” when the style is the first thing people are clicking in for? It seems like you wanted to watch a movie where everything falls neatly into place and there are no questions to be had whatsoever, and maybe more of your questions would have been answered if you actually payed attention to what you were watching instead of writing CinemaSins levels of complaining and nitpicking for every two seconds of this episode’s runtime. TLDR: This review sucks, the reviewer has the attention span of a toddler. Give the pilot episode a watch if you’ve only watched his take on it and form your own opinion.
This video feels *really* nitpicky, to the point it’s almost mean-spirited. I thought the pilot was charming, who cares if the characters are a little superfluous or silly sometimes??
maybe controversial but uh...I don't like sex stuff :/ Like when the focus is on ecchi or has high themes of ecchi yeah it makes sense why there's so much of it But fanservice (the bad ones) or sexism (that has no reason to be there at all) isn't...nessecary? And I mean ANY media, it's weird its useless and al it does it bring in the male/female gaze. ugh
Im back again :o and this time with some criticism like most comments do I don't find anything wrong with Rocky being the "main character" cause he is fun and also has potential to grow And another thing is...this is a pilot You can judge some things yes and develop opinions, but you can't say for sure that this is how the show is going to be like (*cough* hasbin- *cough* helluva boss-) And you don't have to like the pilot, I do but still have some criticism, the problem is that the video kind of became really nit picky and the "furry" stuff is uh...well they just seemed like jokes :p Not bad video tho
Thanks, I appreciate it. Still trying to find the balance between analysis and humor and sometimes it doesn't land. I think I spent too much time on analyzing it scene by scene, so it appears more nitpicky than I anticipated, but the overall points are still there.
theres too much details on the lil things as how lights ranges and such maybe worded better by just stating that the scene needed to be approach differently to make a better impact instead of using a gag joke also i get that is a grounded historical story (meaning is a world without magic or extreme quirky stuff like ed, edd and eddy) and yes it needs logic but since is bunch of animals doing lil quirky and dumb stuff it can be excuse as long as the characters IQ dont drop also it sounds like you are tired maybe take a break and then re watch the pilot again it helps
Hope I can get better. Trying to find a balance between entertaining and informative. I think the overall points are there, but I spent a bit too much time going scene by scene, which I didn't need to.
I never see anyone bring this up so I'll be the one to do so. As someone who was following the pilot's production from pretty much the beginning, I can say that it wasn't meant to be the pilot. When it was pitched, it was pitched as a short film featuring lackadaisy characters. The reason it seems like its primarily fanservice is because that's all it was meant to be. Hell, I didn't even know it changed to be a pilot until the premeire was put up on RU-vid. (Maybe they ssid it somewhere else, at the time i only followed them on RU-vid) My guess is that at some point either because of interest from the fans or an influx of funding, the team switched focus from doing a single animation to an whole series. Since the animation was well into development, obviously they couldn't turn the script into something more newcomer friendly and now we have this pilot-shortfilm Frankenstein. Im not excusing the shortcomings mind you, im just sharing my theory for why the main one people bring up is there. TL;DR The Lackadaisy Pilot was originally just going to be just a one off short film. When it was changed to be a pilot instead the facervice-y elements remained.
the below was written right before RT talked about the comics, shorts etc. , so take it with some or a bucket of salt. I won't delete the below so this can show my thoughts while i watched this. Again, do not take this as gospel/ hard-critique, just as a thought-flow. "'Minor'" exposition (spoilers for comics, shorts): Rocky and the Poem: Poem is in the Comic, and is mostly to show that he is talented in Rhymes and singing. (him Falling off the bridge into the patch of grass, just like the shorts/trailer of Rocky getting stuck on Barbed Wire for Cattle when jumping off a train for his stop, getting his shoulders dislocated as a child during an experiment with Freckle (short), or in the comic.... no i will not spoil most of that, just know he'll bleed in one part(s)) Rocky saying he has "Spagetti-arms": it's an excuse to not dig. Mordecai: the reason he is there, is bc he formaly worked with the Lackadaisy crew (see short about Ivy's childhood, when her father went to sell his car. (feat. Mordecai, Victor, etc.)) Freckle as the lead: well, he did fail the exam-thing to become a cop (hence his compotence with guns (see comic, certain chapter)), so I can see why youl'd see Freckle as more of a potential Protagonist. "Why isn't Victor doing the Digging and hauling of the booze?" or sth along those lines: War vet, lost his eye due to sth else if i remember correctly, his health isn't at it's best as it was during Lackadaisy's prime, so he is behind the counter now. (I believe it was due to some scuffle with other gangs? might be wrong here though). "Mitzy get's a ray of hope": more so reminising the old days, before she lost her husband (see Ivy-flashback-short for a pinch of what her husband was like) "Rocky is the main character": Imo it's more-so Ivy, with her best friends. Ivy also works day shifts at Lackadaisy, and is alr familiar with most of the staff and the establishment, not as much as Mitzy, duh, but still on a decent lvl. To me the premis is still "how will the old Run-down Speak-easy rise up again, after Mitzy's husbands death?"
Can you talk aboutThe Metal Family next? I think you’ll actually enjoy it. It’s not trying to be the next blockbuster, or the next insane big idea, it’s a simple story about a family.
Idk, Dungeon Flippers houses perhaps feel empty because the homes aren't appropriate for Ace. It isn't until we get to the Void were things get spiced up. An empty world filled by imagination and the prospecting buyer has no discernable imagination on entry. Real Estate for monsters explains why monsters repopulate dungeons.
