This type of disc drive was perfect when Windows games were divided into 2, 3, or even 4 CDs, depending on the game format. Instead of changing discs every time it asked you to, you put all the discs into the drive, and if it asked you to put in the next CD, you just pressed the corresponding button and it would change automatically.

Seeing Tandy computers reminds me of a dream I had in early 2021 where I noticed an old Tandy at my maternal grandparents' house. As far as I know, I don't think they owned a Tandy computer, if ever. But I remember finding out that a game that my grandfather had that he gave to me "for keeps" in 1998 called Hoyle Card Game Vol. 1. If only I could play that game by means of Boxer (Mac counterpart to DOSBox) to make him proud in heaven...he was one of the many lives that were claimed in the Western Kentucky tornado that struck in late 2021.

The reason Slot A boards took forever to get to market was Intel was threatening motherboard manufacturers when it came to using VIA chipset. At the time VIA was making competing chipsets for the Pentium III processor, some of them had better features. It was at this time also Intel was about to release the i820 chipset (the really bad one that needed RDRAM to function). Intel was telling Motherboard makers that IF they built any boards (including AMD Athlon K7 boards) based on VIA chipsets, they would lose volume discount prices for the i820 chipset and would have to pay more per unit. This scared a lot of companies into not making day 1 boards based on the VIA KX133 chipset, this meant that to support AMD K7 they'd have to use the Irongate 750 chipset. It wasn't until the i820 launched, and how slow it tuned out compared to chipsets from VIA that the board makers give intel the Middle finger in regards to i820 and pretty much overnight KX133 based Athlon boards were seeing the light of day. This also led intel to introduce a chipset for the Coppermine Pentium 3 that used PC133 SDRAM over RDRAM. Intel also signed a license with Rambus that stated they would not use competing memory standards for 5 years. This is why Intel chipsets didn't support DDR SDRAM for so long compared to AMD offerings. The AGP bug you refered to on the 750 Northbridge was only an issue with nVidia's very first Geforce 256 GPU, which needed a stronger drive voltage for AGP 2x. I had an ASUS K7M as my first Athlon board using the same 750 Northbridge and i had an nVidia TNT2 Ultra, which worked perfect at AGP 2x. the Geforce 256 i upgaded to later on didn't like the AGP 2x speed. so i waited for the ASUS K7V which fixed all the issues You also mentioned the FIC board being sparsely populated. The reason for this is AMD didn't build the reference board, they in fact got FIC to build the reference board for them. The reference board looks identical to the SD11, but instead is a Green PC (you can find these on ebay). To denote to the consumers that this was a retail board FIC changed the colour to brown/gold colour

Hello, did you simply upload the latest version of the BIOS from the motherboard manufacturer's website, or did you modify the original BIOS yourself to recognize such a strange processor?
@Defender78

I have modified the mini tower dimensions, that's the Dell 2400 model, the Shorter towers are easier to modify and I've installed later era (dell 790 and 3020) motherboards into them and they're run perfectly, they're bonafide sleepers: they're have a window's XP badge but can run windows 10 no problem. The larger GX270 dells weigh a ton and they open up in that crazy hinge pivoting manner, and it's like they're not meant to be tinkered with, but I'm going to ripout the internals of one that I found today at the junkyard, and try to make a project of it.

They had a recall on these but they ended it in Feb. 2024, I purchased mine from Amazon on 2/28/2021 and it barely lasted 3 yrs and now it's overheating. I found they had a recall on these units but I chatted with them this morning and they ended the recall in Feb. 2024. I know mine wasn't under warranty but I was at least hoping they would still honor the recall but didn't know they had a cutoff date. I had already purchased the V2 which is comming tomorrow but honestly had I known they were't going to honor it I would've just went back to a Noctua air cooler and the fans are way easier and cheaper to replace. I had to order something because my Ryzen 9 3900xt was running 95c so I've had to configure the power options in Windows to force it to run at the lowest speed and it's currently at 50c. I may decide to clean it all out since I'm stuck with it, I can't really help it that mine decided to last a bit longer than what their cutoff date was. Needless to say I am not a happy camper.

@@eddiebrown967 The v2 has been running fine, I ended up using 6x Phanteks fans that are 30mm thick and keeps the 3900xt around 60-70c. 70 is a bit too high for my liking especially for being water cooled but I'm keeping my eye on it, it's running at 100% due to mining.

@Kista79
@Kista79 2 месяца назад
@@stefantanket8735 Mine runs 24/7 due to mining with a 3900xt. I have made a change on my Ryzen systems which was reducing the max and min cpu usage in Windows power settings, I lowered both down to 99%, these are headless units that do not have a monitor attached so accessing the bios is not readily available. Basically when I was running at 100% it was operating at the turbo clock speed and by lowering the limit it effectively reduced the watts by a ton and the temps are now easily managed. I suffered some losses on the hashrate but I feel it was well worth it in the longrun. I found Noctua makes a cooler for a 4u server case which is the size that this system is being used in. I've also been in the process of replacing these power hungry CPUs for ones that use less watts. I have another system what is basically a shoebox size case from Thermaltake with a 3600x that also runs hot, I replaced the fan on a Noctua low profile cooler that came with a slim 15mm which did help some but the power reduction saved that one until I can transfer it over into a larger case with better airflow, I may even swap it for another 5700x since they run so much cooler.

Thanks a lot for this video. This at least gives me a light at the end of this AIO. Mine start to make really terrible sounds and after looking out other videos from people claiming that specifically this reference start to stop working or making really annoying noises. MSI mention that is due to the liquid cooler they use for this reference unfortunately the one I bought. @WaybackTECH could you list the liquids (beside the alcohol) you use please? What is the one you use on minute 5:35 ? And again thanks for this video.

😢I need help! I have acquired a fisher cr-w52 with no motor on the left ( recording side). Should I buy a motor, where do the wires from the circuit board go on the motor? One wire is a twin red/black and a second one is likewise a twin but red/ white, so four wires if split. The missing motor looks like the right hand one. The wires on the existing motor have different coloured ones, so no help here. Thanks for bearing with me. Any help will ne appreciated!,

Were you able to clear that issue with the volume knob with more cleaning? I have a similar problem with an SX-850, and I’d like to get as much information as possible before cracking it open to clean it myself. I have no experience so I’m pretty hesitant as it stands.

I have one of these machines, but mine is the lowly 466 mhz Celery with Win98. I love the history of eMachines---they made computing affordable for people that couldn't afford a better computer like a Dell, HP, etc. You bring up an interesting point that I never thought about before, and that's the toolbar---mine has that too, but I never thought about eMachines making money on that. Great point, and a great video---thanks

i had a 2400, but just PCI slots, no AGP, then i found a 4600 Intel 3.0GHZ HT in the local recycle center, which i was allowed to take, currently in the process of installing windows 98 on it, but need to get an AGP card, which i dont have, bumber, also managed to get a dell monitor, keyboard and mouse, also some speakers, for £8 all in, nice, by the time i am finished, i will have Win 98se system, with Dos 6.22, and a second HDD with all the games i want, also looking at doing this to an HP system, but that is PCI-e GPU, which i have a 7600GT to install into it,

i got bait and switched into buying one of these at way too high of a price, bundled with a monitor and printer. I overpaid, but it got me through college. Years later, a buddy told me it was easy enough to troll the streets for dumped desktops in the late 90s. But IDK if that's true.

Good to see a video from you. Oh boy, is this thing ever the definition of an AOL & Solitaire machine. The Unreal loading part had me in stitches, reminded me of an old friend who lumped a sickly K6-500 into the mid-2000s and many a time left us hearing the music very much like that while we waited for him... That said, his basket case machine (Socket 5 era with some PowerLeap CPU interposer and Lord only knows what bodges) did actually start and "run" the game, once more proving that even at its worst, a home built whitebox machine is the only real way to go. Sucks that the sponsorship stuff and gimped performance was a glimpse into the future.
