I went down this rabbit hole and found the 1st Austrian Republic adopted Reichswehr uniforms after WW1. Dollfuss reintroduced Austro-Hungarian uniforms as part of his anti-Anschluss 'Austrianisation' policies.
People speak badly about Salazar but they do not take into account the chaos of the First Republic. Look at the state of the modern West and tell me if God, Fatherland, and Family sounds like such a despicable aim to have for a nation.
The heroes of the Reconquista smiled when Franco saved Christendom in Spain and Spain herself from destruction! 1936 - 1939 was the second Reconquista - Spanish nationalists reclaiming their motherland from an inept Socialist government who tried to alter the electoral rules to remain in power after losing the faith of the majority, violent Anarchists and Atheists who murdered Spanish patriots and destroyed churches on the regular, and a sinister fifth column of Bolshevists who were ready to sell out their land to Stalin!
My great-grandfather was a peasant with his own land. The Bolsheviks entered his property once and looted it thoroughly. He begged on his knees that they would at least leave his horse so that he could continue working his field, but they took the horse as well. After that, he joined the Polish army and fought the invaders. He was a cavalryman (ułan), like in this video. And when Poland was free, he created a prosperous village shop and lived happily. His brother also joined the Polish army. He didn't live to see the end of war - he was shot by the Bolsheviks when he was standing on guard of some bridge. My another great-grandfather joined the war much earlier - he took part in the Kyiv Offensive, during which Polish and Ukrainian soldiers briefly liberated Kyiv. However, when Soviets counter-attacked and flooded Poland, he was captured. Luckily, he wasn't executed. He was a carpenter, so they used his skills to build houses in rural Ukraine. He would return home when the war was over and the prisoners were exchanged. Back home, he created a prosperous workshop and met the love of his life. According to my grandmother, he would always tell how he suffered in the Bolshevik slavery. However, he also had an interesting experience - during some Orthodox holiday, there was (or still is) a tradition that after a morning mass, men stand in a long line next to the church and when women leave the church, they kiss every man in cheek. My grandfather also participated in it and he received many kisses from Ukrainian women that day... allegedly, when he told this story to his family, his wife would always say "Yeah, poor you, you REALLY SUFFERED there" I'm proud of my family and proud to be Polish
The "organic" thing was apparently said bt Stálin after the war, and he was right. Salazar wasn't a martial leader, a post-coup dictator or an aggressive ideologue. He was a moderate man, a competent economist and administrator and a person that knew well the dangers of political parties, specially at that time and age.
Not entirely sure what to think about all this, but one thing is certain. Eternal glory to those, who fight for God! Long live the Catholic France! Don't cry, supporters of Vendée! Many gallant warriors of God died, many crusaders of faith perished, many knights of the kingdom lost their lives in a horrible way, martyrs suffered for what's right. It's true. But I'm sure that now they are in heaven, among the angels of the Lord
