I hope your fast was a meaningful time of drawing close to G-d! Could you explain what you do during the fast? As mothers, it’s hard to have time to sit and pray or study. I have only fasted once in my life and it wasn’t anything meaningful. 😢 I haven’t done it again because I don’t know what to do during it. Even as a Christian, it is assumed in the Christian Scriptures that we will fast. But I cannot recall one sermon ever explaining HOW to fast. (Beyond abstaining from food and drink.) Sorry for my late response!! Life is so hectic! My kids start school this week and I will start back work next week. Lots in my mind!! 🤯😊 ❤

Absolutely I know you must be crazy busy! Good luck with all the new beginnings 💕💕 Well Yom kippur there is a lot of prayers in synogoge and as young mom's we don't go to much. some moms feel we are missing out, but I think the time as a young mom will pass quickly and they can get back to shul going. Tisha bav there is less prayer time and kids can use electronics / color so it's different from Yom kippur which is like Sabbath. For me personally I don't fast very well especially exclusively breastfeeding.. so I try to get all the help I can with the other kids and wait for the fast to end 😲 hopefully getting at least some meaningful prayer time/ thought time. 💕

I am a Christian from Texas who began to visit Israel when I was 11 years old and went back regularly because I loved it. For a time, in high school, I was an exchange student in Germany. When I later studied Hebrew in seminary, I learned the story of Yiddish and found it easy. Many years later, I was employed as a hospital chaplain. After a brain tumor, my memory was not what it used to be but writing notes to refresh my memory when charting is dangerous because of HIPPA violations. Still, I needed to be able to keep notes and not have them understood by people who should not be able to read them. I briefly tried writing them in cuneiform but found that to be clumsy because I had not studied Sumerian sufficiently and because the writing system is just not efficient, especially with a pen. Then I remembered Yiddish. The tumor had lessened my proficiency in both Hebrew and German but, being Texas, I grew up speaking Spanish along with English. I had the bright idea of writing my notes out in Spanish but using Hebrew script. One day I was visiting a nice, elderly gentleman with the last name of Cohen. I asked if he wanted me to contact anyone for him and did my standard assessment. He then noticed the script I was writing in and, to my horror and amazement, was able to read and understand what I had written. He asked me how I had learned Ladino. I had never heard of Ladino before. He explained the Sephardic analog of Ashkenazi Yiddish. Those were terms I understood. He said that my vocabulary and syntax were strange but that I was writing Ladino. He too was a Texas native but his parents had come from Andalusia and the Levant. Fortunately, all I had written on that page concerned that patient and no confidential information was compromised. I miss the language skills I had prior to the tumor but find it remarkable that I accidentally learned a language I did not know the existence of because I tried to emulate the concept of Yiddish using a base language that I was more familiar with. שלום וברכה לך ולמשפחתך.

Hello, I recently discovered your channel. Is there a Jewish opinion/opnions on translating the Bible into other languages? Will Jewish homes have a version of the Bible tranlated from Hebrew into the local language?Can the Bible be read in English or French or any other language or is it only read in Hebrew?
@tamarmeisels4637
@tamarmeisels4637 14 дней назад
Hey there welcome 🤗 Absolutely the Bible can and has been translated into many languages. In fact we have a famous translation in Aramaic called unkelos many Jewish Orthodox Jews learn that translation on a weekly basis, as it provides valuable insights. I believe those who are not living in Israel, will have a version translated alongside the Hebrew. But ofcourse best to learn Hebrew and read it via Hebrew language. In the synagogue we will only do the public reading in Hebrew.

Because Christians continue to proselytize Jews, it is necessary to distinguish between the two religions. Most evangelicals are dedicated to bringing all Jews to Christ. From a Jewish viewpoint that means the death of Judaism. Jews for Jesus has cleverly launched a marketing strategy in which Jews are not converting in a church to Christianity but are doing the most Jewish thing possible.
@stephenfisher3721
@stephenfisher3721 15 дней назад
If the world was different, if Christians would totally stop proselytizing, Jews and Christians could discuss all the things we do have in common and could learn from each other. But seldom do I find a Protestant Evangelical without an agenda. They only want to learn so they can gain converts. They don't want to discuss but win a convert.
@stephenfisher3721
@stephenfisher3721 15 дней назад
There is not enough space to tell you the long sad history between Jews and Christians. Let me just mention Spain. There were a number of forced conversions of Jews to Christianity over many years, which started long before the conversion or expulsion in 1492. With the passage of time, many descendants of Jews were sincere Christian believers but the Gentile Christians hated and suspected the Christians of Jewish ancestry. The Inquisition was set up to investigate. Using olive oil instead of pig lard or cleaning your house on Friday was enough to bring you before the Inquisition. Today's Jews for Jesus would most likely have been burned at the stake by the Inquisition.

I find it very interesting that Tamar Meisels uses the term "external books" instead of Apocrypha as most American Jews do when speaking English. Apparently this is a translation of הספרים החיצוניים. As it states in the Hebrew Wikipedia: הספרים החיצוניים הם ספרים שנכתבו בחלקם הגדול על ידי יהודים, בעיקר בתקופת בית שני, ולא נתקבלו ככתבי יד מקודשים בעת חתימת התנ"ך. The external books are books that were written in large part by Jews, especially during the Second Temple period, and were not accepted as sacred manuscripts at the time of the canonization of the Hebrew Bible.

@@tamarmeisels4637 So you don't believe in TRUTH but in loyalty to your heritage? @@irfanmehmud63 Jews believe that God is in control. We are not born into a certain group by accident but it is God's plan for us. The Torah has been given to the Jews.
@irfanmehmud63
@irfanmehmud63 16 дней назад
@@stephenfisher3721 That's the point. If you were not born into a Jewish community, you wouldn't have believed at all that God is in control with a plan and there is a God's favorite nation having greater responsibility. You were taught by your Jewish parents to think this way. I was born and raised in a Muslim family. Once I asked a fellow Muslim this same question of being accidentally born as a Muslim, believe me, he responded exactly the same way, "To be born in a Muslim family is a blessing in itself". This shows how different religious groups share the same psychology. But nothing can be further from truth than this kind of mindset.

@stephenfisher3721
@stephenfisher3721 16 дней назад
Why do you think these books plainly talk about Christ being the Messiah and son of God? I never heard this and a quick Google search did not mention it. Perhaps you have confused a few things? First of all, the Messiah is a Jewish idea. Messiah comes from the Hebrew word משיח. Christ is simply a Greek translation of Messiah. By definition, Christ would be Messiah. Of course, since the New Testament is about Jesus whom the Christians consider the Messiah, Christ is usually reserved for Jesus. Now the Jews totally reject the idea that God could have a son. Judaism and Christianity parted ways on the Christian insistence that Jesus was literally God. What specific verses are you talking about?
