Heck yeah! So many opportunities for tinkering, customization, etc. Actually, all of traditional shaving is kind of like this. Customize to your heart's content.
The Yaqi Beast razor head is their Melon razor top cap with their SC closed comb base plate. That combination gives it more blade gap and exposure. So combining the Mellon top cap with the King C base plate you created something very close to the Beast. Great shave.
Thanks, Peg Leg! Now that I see your comment, I think it was your recent shave with the Knight's Helmet that made me go look at some other Yaqi razors... including the Beast. (I think you even mentioned by name.) I'm not sure how I'd like the actual Beast razor, but as I think back on this particular shave, I'm pretty convinced that I like the "King C. Mellon" as much or even more than its parents. It definitely pushes my limits for comfortable aggression though.
Thank you once again great video your finding your way dude I break out that gillette adjustable go to medium use it for while let skin build tolerance up and move up slowly from there and before long you will be able to use any thing
Thanks man! Yeah, this was a fun one, and it had a surprising result... I never put the original razors back together. The King C. Mellon lives on to shave another day! But yeah, I need to use the old Super again sometime and start cranking it up. I still don't think I've gone beyond setting 5 on it.
i find the King C too mild and the Yaqi Mellon very efficient and still mild enough, i tried this combination but it was too agressive for me, although that Voskhod could help because its a smooth blade. Wow those colors on the soap lid!
Hello, and thanks for the comment. I agree, the King C is generally a bit too mild for me too. I like that occasionally... but the Yaqi Mellon is much more my style most of the time. I think this combination was interesting too. I wouldn't want to shave with it too often, but if I ever accumulate a few days growth, I'd definitely consider it. And I think you're right, the Voskhod probably helped. It's been a while since you left this comment (sorry for that), but have you tried again with a Voskhod?
And thank you for watching this one. Yeah, I have a couple videos to narrate that will probably involve a lot more rambling. My narrated videos tend to be a bit more thoughtful because I can actually get my mind "ahead of my mouth", so to speak. Those should be coming out soon. I'm glad you still enjoyed this one though!
Hey Tugboat, just a box full. I have about 14 or 15 razors right now... most of them inexpensive. I'm aiming to keep a small core of maybe half a dozen permanently, then move stuff through the collection continuously. Then I have maybe two dozen soaps and creams, a few aftershaves, etc. From what I can gather, my collection of stuff is actually relatively small for a real shaving enthusiast. If I wasn't making videos, I'd probably have a lot less stuff... maybe a quarter of what I have now.
Ooh, that's a little difficult to answer simply, Mack. Most of my razors are firmly in the Mild category. I have a few adjustables that can get pretty aggressive (probably more aggressive than I'd ever use regularly). This is what I came up with after really thinking about it. These are in no particular order, really. 1. Gillette Super Adjustable 109 (I usually stay at setting 4 or below) 2. Yaqi "The Final Cut" adjustable (not used much yet... again, probably will mostly stay below level 4) 3. QShave Futur-like adjustable (never used in a video, but even low settings seemed aggressive to me... but it's been a while) 4. FaTip il Piccolo Storto Originale (slant open comb, probably not all that aggressive in reality, but I haven't mastered the twist in that blade yet) 5. Wilkinson Sword Classic TTO (really a rebadged Weishi 9306... most people call this one a Medium razor, but it seems aggressive to me) By the standards of shavers that use aggressive razors often, these probably don't seem very aggressive. But like I said, I generally stick to the milder end of the spectrum.
SHAVEDAD. BTW - I posted the hashtag comment om the other draw twice - once right away and again when you said you couldn't see it. So there was something wonky going on with your RU-vid results. 3 stooges was the only other comment I saw with the hashtag though, at the time I posted. (Congrats 3 stooges)
Yup, I finally found both of your hashtag comments in my RU-vid spam bin. I approved both comments today and replied to them. You 2 + Robert will be part of a special draw next week... 1/3 chance of winning the same prize you missed out on the first go-around!
