That heavy cruiser had no business being out there without ASW destroyers or frigate support. Had that cruiser gotten into your fleet, Brits it would have been curtains. It should have had a screen, Argentine naval commanders. You freaking nonces.
Ignored the possibility of a land attack - nonsense and very poor research - Percival had written his thesis on a land attack just as happened several years before
I think your numbering of the German Panzers is in errour. The Tiger was indeed the Panzerkampfwagen VII, but the Panzer VII usually designates the Löwe (Lion) tank that was designed and had a prototype built for the German government by Krupp. It never went into production. The Maus prototypes and designs were, thus, examples of the Panzerkampfwagen VIII.
The greatest irony for me watching this documentary is that somehow similar tactics are occurring in Ukraine. The Russians are lobbying KALIBR cruise missiles the way the Germans lobbed V 1 and V2 missiles at London and Antwerp. The trenches, dragon teeth anti tank obstacles, lightning fast tank attacks and battles, the heavy sustained artillery barrages all are eerily replicated across heavily contested Ukrainian towns and cities. One German four wheeled armored car appears to have something like an anti drone cope cage over it, although I think it is either an anti roll cage or antennae of some sort (Somebody can tell me what exactly it is…). Anyway, I plan to start my own RUSSIAN-UKRAINIAN WAR BLOG /SPECIAL MILITARY OPERATION BLOG soon. If you see it, kindly support me.
FACT: Most of the tanks used against Poland in the invasion were smaller Panzers with 37 mm light guns. Same wit the French invasion. Infact the French CHAR B was far heavier and more better armed than the Panzers used with 55 mm guns.
My Father’s B-17 was shot down on 3/6/44 on his 6th mission. Half the crew were killed. He made it out, and was rescued by the Dutch and Belgian resistance. The first pilot, Charles Wagner, stayed at the controls until his men could bail out. He was killed in the crash landing. I am going to Margratten cemetery this summer to say thank you. So many brave souls.
Interesting suggestion that success here might have led to Berlin being captured by the Allies instead of the communists. Might have changed the next 50 years.
Finished my basement in the U.S.A. to honor the culture my grandfather brought here. We have a Scottish Pub basement, but I'm thinking the "Work Out space" might be more utilized if converted to a Flying Scotsman Train cabin place to sleep.
My absolute favorite battle in the Pacific. I don't think it is accurate that the US could decrypt 85% of Japanese encoded messages. What I have read is the US could read 10-15% of the messages with the rest being educated guesswork. Still, even with an intelligence advantage, Midway was a near run thing. No one could have foreseen that the US attacks in separate unplanned, often suicidal, waves would drop the carrier air protection down to the deck when the dive bombers finally got there. 5 minutes that changed the war. Amazing....
The part of the story at hall of the mountain king is SOO VERY different from what I was imagining. I was thinking like a of stealthing sneaking group attempting a daring heist that is going terribly wrong.
Can you actually call the American war a civil war. It sounds like more of a war for independence. So there would be two the United States of America and the Confederate States of America.
Wonderful Windsor castle and the long walk near the forest .!! it seems like the same long way of bolgueri in Toscane !! Thanks a lot for this pasionate documenry .😮
Inaccurate , uninformative , Sketchy , bypasses important events , makes unfair assessments. Facts RAF night bombing before Harris was abysmal . Without navigational aids finding a target in the pitch black of night was impossible . The Americans were to face the same problem frequently in broad daylight throughout the war , often missing the target by hundreds of kilometers. 14th Feb 1945 bombed Prague instead of Dresden, The change to area Bombing was only possible with electronic aids as Gee and Oboe . Allowing a concentration of bombers over the target. Operation Gomorrah against Hamburg was the most successful of the war . The death toll is what critics always accentuate upon . ignoring the hundreds of major industrial complex's destroyed . The 8th was supposed to take part , but failed.
"The world's greatest religion - Christianity"?! Are your serious? When discussing the meaning of the world Halleluiah you made a point not to mention in what language it is. Ah, the fall of a once great empire...
Bomber Harris was following orders to save the UK and freedom loving people everywhere. Idiots like these cat callers didn't live through the bombing of the UK cities like the Queen Mother. Civilians get killed. They ARE a casualty of war... throughout history. Many civilians were killed by the Nazis and other Fascists in the UK (e g., Coventry, Portsmouth, London, Birmingham), Northern Africa, European continent, just to name a few places. These hecklers need to crack open more history books and actually read them.
I wish more people knew about Drake. That book, ‘Caribbean’, blew my mind. Drake was a beast. And the stories of Central America are downright astonishing.
Moaning Minnie at 3:40...developed from the Russian Katyusha that terrified the Germans at first so much that some SS men even fled from the battlefield!
Bolke(spelling?) is sometimes credited w founding the first "top gun" class. It was probably the Aussies who shot him down, but I guess it was more "heroic" to credit brown. Good documentary though
