Hey Elliot, thanks again for this editor, its brought me lots of joy. I am now running two Hedras. Im curious if its possible to run two different version of the editor simulayenously using a UM-ONE and Meris.Midi box. Any insight would be appreciated. Id love to generate random patches on both at the same time
The Midi Box 4 does not support bi-directional midi. It receives midi on the midi-in port, and transmits the data to the pedals attached with TRS. It can not receive data from the pedals. In short you can not use the MIDI Box 4 with the editor. The MIDI Baby 3 can be configured to work with the editor. Set the multi-jack to MIDI I/O, set the MIDI Thru to USN and the appropriate multi-jack. Reach out if you have any more questions.
@@ElliotGarbus Hi again: I goy a Strymon Conduit which apparently supports bi-directional midi: I have it functioning with my Midi Baby 3 and Ottobit for changing presets, exp pedal etc. I'm still having the same issue with the editor/librarian launching with all "Unnamed" presets. I'm able to alter the sounds of the ottobot with the editor but not able to save presets. Any guidance for configuring the MB3 with the Conduit would be greatly appreciated. Ottobit is Midi channel 4 MB3 is set for Midi Thru on USB Should the DIN be set to Midi Thru for USB, DIN or both? midi input channel is 1 (not used for any other device) I have the Conduit jack set to Tip Send for Meris pedals. THANK YOU!
@@ElliotGarbusHi: sorry for another question but it occurred to me that the Strymon Conduit has a usb port so i can connect to computer bypassing the MidiBaby 3: should i do that? thx!
Hello, I’m trying to get this to connect with my Morningstar mc6 mk2. The Meris interacts correctly with the midi controller on previous presets I’ve programmed with the Morningstar editor, so I know it’s receiving midi, and I have it set correctly in global settings, but when I go to connect, it stays on the “reading presets, writing names” pop up without actually loading in. I see that it cycles through banks on the Morningstar its self when I first try to connect as well. What am I doing wrong?
The editor needs to receive MIDI data from the pedal. The omniports on the MC6 MK2 only send MIDI, they do not receive MIDI. You could add a Meris MIDI I/O use a TRS cable to the Hedra, and (2) 5pin DIN midi cables to the MC6.
@Elliotgarbus on the GitHub site, you state that to use this editor we need a midi box like the Meris midi I/o and a USB to midi connector like the Roland UM-ONE. Do you know if a simple midi to TRS adapter would work in lieu of the Meris midi I/o?
Connecting to the editor requires 2 capabilities. 1) TRS to MIDI and 2) Midi to USB with SYSEX support. The omni ports on the MC6 Pro are only outputs so you would need to use a Meris MIDI I/O to convert the TRS to MIDI. I would expect the MC6 Pro could handle the USB to MIDI with SYSEX support but you should confirm that with morningstar. I do know other users have used Morningstar controllers I just can't recall which ones. FWIW there is a more up to date video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-8B3bewUexsw.htmlsi=bEhf4cCEdewec3TW
@@ElliotGarbus I've reached out to them as well. I think it has something to do with the MIDI through settings, and must admit that I'm not really understanding what settings to engage.
@@ElliotGarbus I have the midi thru sending to the omniport that the enzo is working on. Just to be sure, I set the USB MIDI host IN thru to everything, and have the USB Device MIDI IN thru to everything as well. I have set the globals on the enzo to your specs. One question, when you're setting the channel are you meaning to the channel that I've assigned to the ENZO ( 5 ) or the channel for the controller?
@@idaho_rex The editor will not work with the Omni ports. The Omni ports are midi out only. The editor needs midi in and midi out. Assuming the MC6 Pro will support sending and receiving SYSEX midi messages from the usb to the din5 port to use the MC6 with the editor you would need to the Meris MIDI I/O box. You would have to connect a TRS cable from the Enzo to the MIDI I/O, then connect two 5-pin din cables from the MIDI I/O to the MC6 Pro, and a USB cable from the MC6 Pro to the computer.
Do you know if the editors would work with a TRS to MIDI in/out splitter cable with controllers such as Disaster Area DMC or Morningstar MC? Many seem to be having trouble with one way ports.
It depends on the specific device. It must provide midi-in and midi-out on TRS. The Morningstar Omni ports are just midi-out. The Disaster Area MidiBaby and Qconnect provide midi-in and out on TRS. Check the users manual or contact the manufacturer. I recommend using the Meris MIDI I/O, it works, and provides the MIDI opto-isolators that prevent ground loops.
Hi Elliot! the editor crashes when I try to connect it to the Enzo. I use M-Audio Midisport Uno and Meris Midi I/O. Global settings are correctly set. The PC has Windows 11. Do you have any advice to resolve the issue? Your editor is amazing and I really wish I could use it. Thank you
What is the error, what are you doing when it crashes. I think there are 2 possible issues. A virus scanner could have corrupted the installation, or the .ini file got corrupted. You can also take the next 2 steps, they may fix the problem: 1) In the directory: "C:\Users\YourUserName\Documents\Enzo Edit Presets and Library" there are 2 files, delete the file main.ini, this file holds the window size and position and the default locations of the library. If you delete this file a new one will be created the next time the program starts. If this file was corrupted this will fix the issue. Restart the app and see if it works. If it doesn't go to step 2: 2) Reinstall: In WIndows go to settings, Apps find the editor and uninstall. Then turn off your virus scanner and reinstall the app. Try the app if it works, turn your virus scanner back on. If those fixes did not work: There is a log file that captures behavior of the program located at: C:\Users\YourUserName\.kivy\logs There is a list of txt files in this directory. One is created when the app runs. Look at the most recent log, if there are errors reported in the log, let me know the error. I'm confident we can get you up and running. Please let me know how it goes. Good Luck!
@@ElliotGarbus Thank you for your immediate support! There is no error text, after clicking connect the app no longer responds and I'm forced to stop it using task manager. I'll follow your instructions with fingers crossed and let you know. Thanks again for your time.
Hi elliot, this is a big deal. But I don't know how to connect the Meris Hedra (which I have) to my Windows PC. Audio via interface. I did. But MIDI I don't know . What kind of cable do I need😮💨 I have the mobile Meris Hedra. Not the 500 series Ralf
TLDR: Get the Meris MIDI I/O, and a Roland UM-One MkII. There are two things you need to connect the Hedra to the editor. A TRS to midi converter and a MIdi (5-pin DIN) to USB converter. The Meris Midi I/O provides the TRS to Midi; I use a Roland UM-One MIDI to USB. There are lots of MIDI to USB cables that will work - but avoid the cheapest of them, they are often marketed as keyboard connectors and will not work properly with the editor.
This is incredible, thank you for all the work you put into this. Its capabilities ate way beyond anything i hope for or imagined. Please let me know where i can send a donation for this project I am curious if youve found a way to limit sequences to specific keys or modes? I wonder if using an intelligent harmony machine or quintessence fully wet would track well enough. Have you tried any harmonizers? Itd be really amazing if we could pick which intervals would be included in the random patch generator and which would be excluded..not sure if thats technically feasible though
Thanks for your kind words. I'm glad your enjoying the editor. Go to the help menu and select donate, it will bring up a paypal page. Are you using the Hedra? You can select the settings on the generator panel, and select the items that are included or excluded in the random patch generation. Remove key and mode, and set specific values in the editor. They will not change. You can use the A/B Morph or A/B Sweep and limit the range of intervals by setting the max and min values on the interval knobs. The generator does not have the capability to select specific intervals to include or exclude - but between the settings (include or exclude a knob) and the A/B modes (limit a range) there are some controls that can be used to limit the intervals.
Hi Elliot, I just wanted to say thank you for this editor, its amazing and has been life-changing. Do you know if its possible to get midi clock to the ottobit while using the editor? I'm currently using MC8 to send midi clock to all my pedals (including Ottobit). When I use the editor I've been plugging the ottobit into meris midi i/o into UM1
Yes the editor will work if midi clock is being sent. If you wanted to use the MC8, you would need a way to merge the 2 midi data streams. There are midi merge devices that do this kind of thing. I have a simple midi clock generator program if you want to run a clock while using the editor. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-YgN36jkAgF4.htmlsi=8eTmy2iqsA7pfBHQ
Hey Elliot, this look amazing. Thank you for building this. are you aware if this works with Morningstar products? I'm trying on the MC8 and it just says 'reading presets, writing names' when I try to connect and stays stuck on that screen. I have enabled cross midi thru which allows ' USB MIDI to DIN MIDI, and vice versa.' The midi channel is definitely correct. When I go to load the inputs and outputs it lists Morningstar 0 - 4. 1-4 are only outputs so I'm not sure why theyre showing up as inputs. There are a total of 5 outputs on the MC8 but only 4 options.
The editor needs a bi-directional connection to the pedal. This requires converting the proprietary 1/4" Meris TRS connection into MIDI IN and OUT. If you are using the omni-ports on the MC8, it will not work. The Omni ports are midi out only. Here are a number of connectivity options: * Connect the Ottobit Jr to the Meris MIDI I/O box and connect the Midi in and out DIN connections to the MC8. I expect this should work. * Alternatively you could connect the Meris MIDI I/O to a high quality midi DIN to USB cable, like the Roland UM-One. Avoid the cheapest cables they will not pass SYSEX messages. * Another choice is to use a Strymon Conduit, this provides the TRS to MIDI to USB. * There are also a number of Disaster Area products that will work, for example the MIDI Baby 3. Good Luck, feel free to reach out if you need more help.
Hi after setting the Polymoon according to the editor manual, I connected to computer via Midiman anniversary - The editor can see the midiman, the editor says it is reading presets, writing names but nothing happens. I´m not that midi friendly, so sorry for newbee question..
How are you connecting the Polymoon to the MidiMan? You need to use a device like the Meris MIDI I/O to convert the TRS connection in the pedal to MIDI in and midi out. Both Midi in and Midi out must be connected.
@@ElliotGarbus okay - I just wrote "a What to do" question in a thread at Gearpage about your editor. But I just connected my TRS jack - midi cable from the Polymoon to the midiman...I also have the DMC.micro - could I use that instead (and how...?)
This is great. Can you use it with midi in to the enzo only (e.g. via any of the midi in only boxes with switchable tip or sleeve like the empress or chase bliss ones) or does it specifically require having to have both midi in and out (I.e. specifically using the meris midi box)? I’ve got one of the first kind as I have other non-meris midi over jack pedals, so if it does send only I’m getting this straight away if it still works with unidirectional comms and I can’t get the editor to read anything back from the enzo. But if it has to have bidirectional comms I guess I’m out of luck without buying a new midibox.
The editor requires a bi-directional midi-connection, midi in and midi out. The empress Midibox2 has 1 bidirectional connection, and of course you can use the Meris Midi I/O.
Elliot, so the viable options are the Meris MIDI I/O and the DAD qCONNECT? Any others? I assume DAD MIDI Box 4 won't work because it's not bi-directional. How about DMC.micro Pro? I think, but am not certain, that it can act as a USB MiDI to 1/4" MIDI converter... Thanks
There are 2 "functions" that need to be provided TRS to MIDI and MIDI to USB. As long as a bi-directional solution is provided, it should work. The Empress MIDI-box 2, for example has 1 bi-directional port, that will work. Any robust midi to usb solution should work, avoid the cheapest cables they will not pass SYSEX. Some of the DA devices provide both these 2 functions in one device. Taking a quick look at the DAD MicroPro, it looks like it should work.
@@ElliotGarbus Thanks so much for the reply! I decided to go with the Meris MIDI I/O because I already have several Meris pedals and 5-DIN MIDI in&outs available from the computer in my studio (plus the DMCmicro Pro is already on a pedalboard)... I'll let you know how it all works out. Thanks again!
Having trouble using this with the DA qConnect. I get stuck on reading presets, writing names. If i click away, I can change the sounds via the editor and see the lights on the pedal change, but I cant save the preset to the pedal or read the presets from the pedal. Its like the enzo is only receiving data and not sending it. Any ideas? mac bigSur usb to qconnect TRS to Enzo settings on Enzo: midi ch1 midi out exp to midi settings on qConnect: usb to midi thru to ALL
The qConnect must connect to the Enzo using port X on the Qconnect, be sure to set it to MD.io; See the bottom of page 11 of the online qConnect manual. If you still have issues contact DisasterArea, their customer support is quite good and they can help you out.
Not all heroes wear capes, thank you very much! Wonderful job. I recently bought an Enzo and I've always been kind of a in-the-box editor who saves presets and this is very useful. Also, I was thinking to buy more Meris pedals and using a DAW (Ableton) for live perfomances. But I don't understand very much how channels work so I wanted to ask you a question. I was thinking that if I save in each pedal preset slot prevoiusly from your patch generator a preset sound for each "song or instance", for example, for song number 1 use preset1 in Enzo and preset1 in Polymoon, and use only one midi track (in DAW) to send Program Changes 1 to the whole Midi/IO port, so both pedals changes their presets simoultaneously according to one Program Change message. Could that be possible? How would you do it if not? Thank you very much again! (sorry my english)
Thanks for the kind words. In MIDI the channel is the way to address an individual midi device. You would set the midi channel of each of your pedals. This is done with the global settings. The PC (program change) message includes both a midi channel and the preset value. When you send out the PC, only the pedal with the same channel will respond to the PC. Hope that helps!
This is fantastic! Thank you very much for making this! It is really worth a lot for me. Thanks! I would not mind paying a few euro's for an app like this. Maybe a pay-as-you-wish webshop? Thanks!

Hi Elliot - awesome application you've developed here, extremely impressive and a much needed UI to help manage quite a daunting task, even with a midi editor like morningstar or something. Had a question - you mention disasterarea products specifically quite a bit - does this application require disasterarea midi controllers? I was getting similar errors that I see other folks post about - the lights blinking but the app hangs on 'Reading Presets, Writing Names' but never completes. I'm using a morningstar midi box with 1/8 inch to TRS cable converter, TRS cable into Enzo, midi in and midi out from the midi box to a Scarlett 8i6, usb to from scarlett to my mac pro. Not sure where I could be going wrong, perhaps the 1/8 inch to TRS converter? The midi box needs to convert TRS to midi directly, not going through a converter like that? Or it shouldn't matter? Thanks and much appreciated for all the helpful responses!
The app requires a bi-directional midi connection midi in and midi out. The TRS ports on the MS midi box are midi out only. The app is not receiving data from the pedal. Use a Meris Midi IO to connect to your Scarlett.
I can't get my Hedra connected for the life of me. Can you help me out with what I'm doing wrong? I've got the Roland USB Midi UM-ONE with the IN connected to Midi in on the Disaster Area Designs Midi Box 4. The Midi OUT on the Roland UM-ONE is connected into the Midi Box 4 "Midi Thru" as there is no out option on the box. I've gone into the Meris settings to enable Midi, have tried multiple different channels and have set it to Midi Thru as well as Midi Out and I'm still getting nowhere. The switches on the Disaster Area are set for Meris and I'm using a TRS cable. Do you have any advice at all on what may be the issue? I'm really excited to use this software to dial stuff in!
One other thing I'm noticing is On the Select Midi Ports portion, MIDI Input shows UM-ONE 0 and MIDI Output shows UM-ONE 1. I'm pretty sure in watching your examples, both said UM-ONE 1.
Hey there! This looks incredible and have already played around with it. I was curious if this would work with the Strymon Conduit as it is bidirectional with it's midi outs? I'd rather have theirs as I have other midi devices that use different trs types and this would be able to play nicely with all of them.
Hi ! Thanks for your fantastic work ! Your editor is really cool but I've got a problem and no one is answering me x) I've got a CBA Brothers and a disaster area CBA câble (midi to jack) and it's working with my Roland quad capture on pc, I can control the pedal and send it preset. But when I'm using my Switcher (one control crocodile tail wing) it wont. Midi routing is crocodile out into TC Electronic flashback triple delay then thru into CBA Brothers. Maybe I'm messing something with PC/CC and all that stuff cause I'm new to midi. Do you have an Idea ? What are the PC/CC send by the editor when I recall a preset ?
To recall a preset a PC messages is sent. Here are a few things to check. Make sure each device (TC flashback triple delay, CBA Brothers) is on a separate MIDI channel. I took a look at the midi section of the TC-FTD manual. I'm concerned that the MIDI implementation may only support midi clock and not other messages. Here are some tests I suggest to help your troubleshooting. 1) try controlling the CBA pedal directly from the midi switcher. If this works you know your switcher is sending the correct data. 2) Connect the midi out of the switcher to the midi in of the Roland Quad Capture and use a midi monitor to see the data. (You should see two hex (base-16) numbers, each 2 characters. ) If you see the data, then connect the midi out of the switcher to the midi in of the TC-FTD, connect the MIDI-THRU from the TC-FTD to the midi monitor. If you do not see the data - the problem is the MIDI-Thru is not passing the PC message. There is a nice, free midi monitor for the PC: www.bome.com/products/sendsx If you need more help you can find me on Facebook, and send me a DM.
@@ElliotGarbus it matches, It's on Channel 2 and I've been setting the PC message into Channel two. I'm using wingtail app to do it and it's pretty clear I think cause I've managed yo program my TC Electronic ftd
Hi Elliot… I see that you’ve provided saving to an expression pedal. If I have the Meris four button preset switch, would the first four (of the 16) preset slots on the editor be recallabale on that footswitch? Or can I use the editor to create patches for the four button preset switch? Thanks so much!
The editor saves presets to the 16 preset slots on the Polymoon. As you mentioned the preset switch uses the first 4 slots, so yes, you can use the editor to program the first 4 presets that you would then select with the preset switch. One thing to keep in mind, to switch between the preset switch and the editor you would need to reconfigure the pedal for Midi to use the editor, and the preset switch for performance. This is done using the Globals on the pedal.
Hi Elliot, I downloaded your Hedra editor. I am using a Disaster Area DMC 3XL Gen 3 in Interface mode to connect to my Macbook Pro (Big Sur 11.4). I installed the editor OK and I made sure to use a TRS cable to connect the Hedra to the DMC. Hedra is setup as it is required. I can't get it to connect though. The connection page shows my DMC3XL as MIDI in and out and channel 1 is setup everywhere. It just won't connect, any ideas? One thing that seems strange is that on the ABOUT info for the editor it shows version 0.0.0.
The Editor requires a bi-directional midi connection, midi in and midi out. The multi-jack on the DMC3XL is only midi out. If you are connecting the pedal to the multi-jack it will not work.
I'm not planning on any updates right now. If you want to try the editor with the Habit, you can select a similar pedal (Mood for example) from the menu. The editor will work fine, the knobs will just have the wrong labels.
Hello Mr Garbus, your apps are so efficient that i became addicted to them. A catastrophe happened yesterday, i replaced my studio desktop and i keep hitting *fatal error, failed to execute script main* when i try to open the apps. Also, when i downloaded the files, Windows was badly suspicious telling me i shouldn't open them, wich i didn't care anyway and did open them. The apps are working on my laptop so i copied the files from it to my desktop with same result... Finaly, every apps i loaded on my desktop (many) are working fine. I am not sure right now how i can live with Meris pedals and no Garbus editors. If you happen to read this and can give a hand, it would be hugely appreciated !
I suspect that a virus scanner is corrupting the install. Try disabling your virus scanner during the download and install. If that doesn’t work let me know. There are more things we can check.
@@ElliotGarbus Hey ! Cool to read you. I did disable but it didn't prevent from warning me as before. I bypass it and It lets me install the program and the file looks full and ok. Breaking News ! I gave it another try, in despair, it worked ! It doesn't seem to relate to the old presets and library files though. @@joshuamiranda1825 The Selah Quartz V3, only sends midi out on the TRS Jack. The editor requires a bi-directional connection (midi-in and midi out). I suggest you use the Meris MIDI I/O in place of the SQV3.
Hello Elliot, if I have the Enzo and the Polymoon, do I need the Meris I/O + Roland UM One + Midi controller (DMC-3XL GEN3) or with the qCONNECT is it enough to edit / use the 16 presets for each one? What do you recommend me?
The Meris MIDI I/O provides a MIDI spec compliant connection to up to 4 Meris pedals. The Roland UM-One Mk2 is a USB to MIdi interface. You could use the Meris MIDI I/O with the UM-One and the editors for editing and creating presets. Then unplug the UM-One from the MIDI I/O, and connect the 5-pin midi out from the DMC-3XL Gen3 to the MIDI in of the MIDI I/O for selecting presets in a performance setting - you can also connect an expression pedal to the DMC, and send midi expression to the Meris pedals. The MIDI I/O is fully midi compliant, and ensures the midi connection does not cause ground loops. I would recommend you get the MIDI I/O, the UM-One and a Midi Controller. This provides the most flexibility. It will also let you edit and create presets on multiple Meris pedals at the same time. You could have both editors open - and create patches that work together. The qConnect has one-port (X) that can be configured as a bi-directional midi port. This can play the role as the midi to computer interface, saving the cost of the UM-One. There are a number of restrictions, the qConnect is more complex to configure. If you only had one Meris pedal and cost focused, the qConnect would be a consideration.
Been trying all day to get this working through a qConnect. I have Hedra set with MIDI OUT on channel 5. USB into qconnect. I had Hedra on Port E but switched it to X after reading a comment below but didn't seem to make a difference. It gets hung up on reading presets. Oddly, if I page through presets on the qConnect itself, the loading meter/indicator will change and the highlighted preset will jump around in the app. But I can't seem to establish a connection between the app (set to channel 5) and the Hedra. I should add that when I hit 'connect', I do initially see some of the lights on the Hedra flash around but then nothing.
The symptoms suggest that the midi data is not getting from the pedal to the editor. Make sure you are using a TRS cable. If you are using a TRS cable, contact Disaster Area support for how to configure the qConnect. Make sure that the inCh on the qConnect is not the same as the Hedra or the editor. Try using different values for the thru setting the on the qConnect.
@@ElliotGarbus Took me a hot minute to realize that I was using TS cable from qConnect to Hedra. Using a TRS and setting THRU on qConnect to MIDI.io helped. Your comments helped, thank you. I found that editing a patch and then trying to save back to the Hedra didn't always work. Instead, it was easier to just save 'new' preset to Library and then drag it over to the presets list. But at least I now have things backed up and named.
