Hello my names Taylah, I'm 25 from Victoria, Australia and I enjoy making and always have!
I created a business making scrunchies and hair bows called Madebytaylahrose in 2014 when I was 15 and still in school.
Now 10 years on I run my business full time and I'm a RU-vidr.
I love to post studio vlogs, especially behind the scenes of my daily life running a handmade business. I also love to give tips and advice to other small businesses. With 10 years experience I hope to help others achieve their dreams!
New video every Thursday evening (aussie time)
To check out what I do full time here are some links
Just found you on RU-vid but have bought from you years ago. Glad Glengarry market is going well, I haven't managed to get out there for a look, but have wondered how well it goes. I'll need to do more promotion for my biz in the future and have debated doing markets again.
Hi there from Sweden 👋 instead of glue on elastic WHY not double sided tape? You could tape like 10 or more before cutting the tape just a friendly suggestion Tayla ❤
You sell yourself short with your sewing abilities. Super cute bags, magnetic closures are easy but I think what you did is even better and a super cute result. Love them!
When you are on your sewing machine it sounds like you are sending messages in morse 😂 I’m glad you are wearing a mask now as it’s something you just can’t mess around with. 😊
So I’m the commenting queen today 😂. Was it intentional, or did you notice, that the zzzt zzzt zzzt sound of your fast forwarded sewing machine is in time with the music you laid down on it?!? Like it sounds like an instrument in the music 😂. Ps Kudos for wearing the mask 👍🏼
Have you ever considered using an electric fabric cutter? For example, the VEVOR RC-100? It's like $88 CAD so I guess in AUD it would be similar. You could stack all your fabrics on top of each other, get your ruler and cut all of them at once. That would optimize the time you spend cutting, so more time for yourself :)
I love the way you care for yourself. You keep hydrated and protect yourself from all the dust and lint. You now strive for a good work/life balance. These may be minor to some, but you are a shining example for self care in a time when so many are living a bit too risky!! I have a teen daughter. We have watched every single video! Thank you for being a GOOD example for girls and young women!!
I hand sewed my own schrunchie for the first time yesterday. My amateur hand sewing shows in the seams but I was so happy with it. Thank you for inspirational videos 😊
I have been trying to make those cute bows, but I’m having trouble getting them centered. And I keep forgetting the measurements. Oh yeah, I should write it down. DUH! That’s what happens when you get to 80. Really enjoy watching you buzz thru on your machine. Wish I had that much room. I have boxes and bags all over my bedroom. Hard to decide where to start. I’ll get it done eventually. Thanks for your encouragement.
Ohh and if you can't get more of the fabric don't beat yourself up over it just have a change instead I've found that customers like different fabric designs it shows your stock is constantly evolving xx
Ok, hunnie, first you need to implement proper working hours and stick to them or employ a helper. Second, I agree to slow down a little in autumn but be ready for Christmas markets Thirdly, hunnie, the bags are beautiful weldone. Can I ask if the scrunchie wall is a stock wall or something that looks really pretty because if it's not really having a purpose, maybe it would be best to reuse it that's helps you. Your a credit to your brand Keep going hunnie Kind regards Heidi 😊
I’m curious what purpose “the scrunchie wall” serves? Not being critical, honestly just curious. Is it just your “inventory”? Arranged in a lovely aesthetically pleasing way? 😊.
@@TaylahRose awesome! Yes very good visual, I love the idea of being able to see it ALLLL at once. I had wondered if it was for some other purpose, then maybe stop doing it, because it seems like it takes a lot of your time 🙃. But duh, now it makes total sense 🤣. So when you say the scrunchie wall is getting low, I’ll know you’re saying my inventory is getting low 🤪
I opened my etsy shop 8yrs ago and I had closed it and had considered reopening then decided not to, I've gone a little back and forth whether to or not, I had no sales anyway, but am going to reopen a little later in the yr, and going to have a website too, not sure if it'll be at the same time or not but etsy shop reopening and a site... I'm aussie myself, thought I'd add that too 😅
Agree with everything you say. I am charged 25% on every item I sell and I have to bring the traffic myself. There are lots of scammers on etsy, Etsy now make ridiculous demands in sellers. And there is lots of dross being sold. Etsy is on a downward race to the bottom. I have now opened my own website. Most Etsy sellers would recommend opening your own website if you can. I now direct everyone to my website.
I have a feeling that you have a pretty successful business and if so, Etsy will feel that if you and everyone else leaves. I've watched many videos on "why I'm leaving Etsy". It's pretty rotten what they have done to small businesses/crafters. When I had my Etsy shop it was literally impossible to be found through searches... the same people would come up over and over and my shop was buried deep. Good luck!
I was badly scammed when I opened my Etsy store earlier this year. So difficult as a newbie to tell which emails are genuine as they all have an "Etsy"logo. Luckily my bank detected it and stopped the payments so the scammers got nothing but the security issue bothered me. How did they get my details in the first place?
Been following you for sometime now!! So thank you!! Could i request a video explaining how you get the orders and process them when they are placed online? I haven’t launched yet (United States) and am trying to educate myself on everything i can ahead of time time. I just worried about keeping orders in check 😊
In Josh’s video last week he never said handmade one time. It’s no longer a handmade site! He knows it. He’s making too much money to go just handmade anymore. Sad. I’m leaving also
I had an account for 14 years sold £1000's and one day they shut it down with no explanation. I will never sell there again. Now I am on Amazon and selling even more, again not the best like you said to have all your eggs on one basket. I have started to build a website and hopefully it will see me well.
Yes. Well said... "Esty does NOT care!" It's beyond obvious; as a buyer, searching (Aaaggghhh!) for an item(s) I want has become a total waste of my time & is quite disrespectful. Their ridiculous pop-ups just drive me away. Who wants to drudge thru 100,000+ items of over-priced garbage? And, that's just getting started, oh my! BTW, WTH does Keep Commerce Human mean? To me, it means Etsy is proudly advertising their dishonesty. Way to go, AI Etsy!
Thank you so much for the great advice. I still hope my Etsy shop will take off at some point. It's open for 3 years now but it is not selling at all. I had hoped it would pick up sooner and or grow at least a little. Same with social media by the way. Do you have any tips for a noob of selling on Etsy?
