Your story is truly what they say. A regular job is 9-5. When you work for yourself is all day. Please make a schedule so you don’t quit all together. You do amazing. I’ve been following you for a few years now and so impressed with your work ethics.

There have been times when I have watched you and I think you’re so young and you have a accomplished so much. I grew up in a creative family. I went on as an adult to always make things instead of buying them. The computer world came into my life, a whole New World had opened up for me because I was able to have an online shop and I didn’t have to have a store downtown and trying to pay rent. I also have two daughters who do you have shops and they are working very hard all the time, but what they make is amazing, but what you and I do is all handmade one by one piece by piece. I did get burned out and I shut my doors a year ago, but I didn’t do it because I didn’t want to do it anymore. I just wanted to change what I made I was tired of being in one category,I make a lot of stuff and that stuff was not getting noticed because I was always in this one category. You really touched base on all the things that are important especially the one about your health I would go days sometime only eating a cookie or a glass of chocolate milk I was so busy, thank you for having this and showing people that it is not the easiest in the world. Working from home is wonderful. You do have to treat it as a job and enjoy it. Try to remember why you started the job and those feelings of joy.

It's so nice to hear someone talking about the realities! Being a sole trader, especially in the handmade field can be really isolating and it's hard to make those decisions to slow down and prioritize yourself because we chose this path, not the 9-5. Definitely some things that I think I also need to take on board as I'm watching you while I work at 9:30pm..

Thank you for sharing this! I’m feeling a bit of a “clear it out and start again” myself and some of these tips and insights are so helpful ❤️ I definitely understand the working on your health part. I realised yesterday this week I’ve had about five meals in five days and yesterday I ate breakfast and morning tea with my toddler (usually I just chat to him) and the difference in how I felt even in one day was eye opening…

I feel like last year was really so slow for me too. Maybe because there were so many things that happened and personal problems arouse at the same time so I nearly gave up too. But luckily I was able to overcome that mindset and still continuing my small business until now. So please keep going because I also get my inspiration from you.

Always taking care of yourself is key. Your fans and customers will always be here for you. It would also be best for you to have an air purifier. To cycle all the fabric fibers out and away from your lungs. Stay strong, you got this.

You are correct, without taking care of mental health, there is no business. I cut back on my business markets for Just a lil Corgi when my son passed away. I was just not fit for human consumption. I was burnt out, I was grieving, I needed to step back and reassess. I am just beginning to get my embroidery mojo back.

I know you don’t want to hire someone on the making side, have you thought about hiring a social media manager or virtual assistant to help with the tech stuff? Also, there is absolutely nothing wrong with manufacturing products as long as you do your due diligence and work with a good factory. For the posture issue, I’ve bought a ‘bra’ from Forme. It’s actually created by an orthopedic surgeon and it helps you to keep your shoulders back and down (fellow adhd hunched over sewer here).

Have you thought of one of the desks that you can just push a button and it goes up and down. I think there are tables too. I have seen someone here on you tube sews with her sewing machine on one. That way you could change your position when you need to. I love to see you working to get your health better. Health is so important. Both physical mental and spritual. Hugs sugar from an old grandma.

I’m not sure if it will work with her machine. It comes with a table, unlike her old portable one (Singer). Please do correct me if I’m wrong. But I do think such a table will be useful for her when packing orders, so she will not hunch over while standing as well.

I get your health struggles. I worked on my families from from the age of 8. I set up a firewood business at 14, an engineering business at 20 then a cleaning business at 37. I'm currently grounded with a hernia but I really struggle knowing when to stop. I tend to work every hour of the day and can't get my head around doing things any other way. You're 14 years younger than me and you're light years ahead of me in understanding all this stuff.

Thank you for sharing and I totally agree with you. We all need to put our health at the top of the list otherwise we could not do our business. Need to work a 9 to 5 schedule and take weekends off to avoid burnout. Thank you again for sharing and your ideas!

Your video today reminded me of a time in my life when my business had completely sucked my life away. May I offer a couple of suggestions? Contact an occupational therapist to help you fit a work space to yourself they can help you with the chair and your desk height. They may even have suggestions to protect you from the effects of the fabric dust. And, maybe hire a personal trainer for a month or two to help you develop a program for strengthening your core. I am so impressed by your creative drive and the business you have created. You are so successful. You deserve a personal life. God bless you, Taylah. You are on the right track to begin working to live rather than living to work. At least I think so....Just one old lady's opinion.

Thank you for this video, I have been working nonstop on my products, lost most of my friends, and only went out when I had markets. I want to make videos and promote my stock, but I feel so overwhelmed with what has to be done that I just set it aside and focus on the next market or order. You inspired me and made my day when you uploaded a video. You are awesome

Great video with a lot off good advice. My friend has his own business too and I work full time elsewhere and also helping him when needed. Sometimes we just say next week is an off week, when we don't go to work and he is at home and we are making fun and doing other stuff not business related. It helps us to reset our energy. And I know it takes consistence to work on your physical and mental health, and I also forget my physical health a lot, working 8-5 almost without a break... Your video is an eyeopener and hopefully a new start for me also to do daily exercises.... Take care of yourself is the best way to continue your business. Thank you and wishing you the best

Take not of production workers. They use a bench by the machine, maybe use a straight back chair. I find having castor's on can cause issues. The straight back chair will make it easier to get closer in. Something to consider.

You need to rethink everything. Do this on a vacation. You have a good thing going and it has been good to you. Think about what your Home Mortgage holder would think about this decision. Let me suggest adding some good fun items. Like maybe Table Runners for the Holidays ahead. Or maybe hire a good helper that you can talk to while you work. How about your cousin? Sharing the load may be good so you can take off a day every so often. Also rethink these LAUNCHES. Are they necessary as often as you do them? Maybe one good new item per year is good enough. Also catch a good massage every week or so. And think about wearing a mask when you use certain fabrics. I know Minky does my allergies nuts. Good luck. Love you girl. A long time follower, Brendia

My thoughts when I heard about your health issues: You store and process a lot of fabric in a small space and therefore I would suspect that you are inhaling a lot of fiber. You may want to consider investing in a suction/extraction system.

All I can say is that human like us are limited. We are not made to be unlimited. I my self who’s 41 years mom of two. Who barely finished school. Who also started a scrunchie business but because I needed to help my husband financially. (Because small business for scrunchies and bows. Isn’t a get rich quick business. It takes time for your business to grow) so anyways. My point is, it’s understandable that we have bills to pay house payment and everything. But you have to learn also to do time management. There are moments that you need to take a break or else your burnout. Spend time with family, or friends. Go on a date or something. Even if you have a small business doesn’t mean you have to be stuck to that. I am sure everyone who’s human understands that you also who is a RU-vid logger have a life too. So don’t give up on the things you love. Don’t give up on your dreams.

I would just stick to best seller fabrics and do one new limited time color here and there. You can go broke buying fabric that doesn't sell.

I wonder if you do a limited item of the month and offer subscriptions. Like X dollars and make the item only for subscribers. Offering a subscription and a unique item would be valuable.

Some good ideas there to improve your business. Health & Safety is a big thing no matter what you do. I have a small business & also work full time in a desk job & have changed my desk etc for better posture & try to move more or break up my day so I'm not fully doing one thing all day. I do markets too & always take something to work on while I'm there, like elasticating scrunchies, snipping them if they are daisy chained together or products that may need packaging & its possible to do that at a market. Highly recommend a good table! I found one on facebook market place & its life changing! And have you looked at outworkers/ contract sewists to help make some items? Even if it was for a few hundred scrunchies a couple times a year, especially around xmas time. Enjoy watching your content, good luck and look forward to seeing how your changes make a difference.
