I recommend looking at the bed sheets when you're at the thrift shop and get the flat sheet. You'll get more fabric to work with.

I do that too..flat sheets are so rarely used nowadays, that they are often in 'new' condition. I pay around $4 per queen flat..great value.

I use flat sheets for my mock ups when trying a new pattern. Just make sure it is 100% cotton the sheets that are half poly are not comfortable to wear.

Hi…!! I get excited when the word fabric scraps are used. Coz I make scrunchies from fabric off cuts from the tailors. The cutting part is hard as they’re cut in different shapes and sizes.. so your videos gave me an idea of measurement… 42 inches plus for xls, 29 or 30 for medium and the rest is mostly small and skinny scrunchies so even if the off cuts are too small they’ll be skinny or minis… and people love these sizes… you can try getting fabrics from tailors if you know of anyone who are around. Check with dress makers in your area… they’ll be more than happy to part you with their off cuts. Been doing multiple things for 1 to 2 years with fabric waste. Just started scrunchies 2 months back. Hoping to add more…

Keep a spray bottle with water handy as this will help you get rid of or reduce the dart/hem creases.

Hi Taylah from Ireland 😊 absolutely love your videos and all you make!! Would you ever consider doing a video, talking about how/why you started, where you first started to sell your scrunchies, how you priced your products, when you started selling online etc, would be very interesting! My daughter and i bought lots of beautiful fabric the other day and I'm going to make her lots of scrunchies and some bags 😊 Charity thing is such a lovely thing to do!

Ahhh, your ending was sad to hear. It could be the time of year sales are down. Maybe a small fabric shop video and then those fabrics are your launch? Also, a new product idea, as someone else mentioned…zipper pouches and project bags (large tote). Something I also think might sell is a compartment style crochet hook holder. It’s flat, with channels to insert each hook and either rolls or folds to store. You can use fabric you already have for one side then something else for outside. It would be fast to make.

Such a great idea! I would just be sure to wash it before making because as someone who lost everything to mold- including clothes due to reactions after washing- I personally can’t even go into thrift shops, sadly.

Love your vids. Try reaching out to quilters in your area to see if they can use your small scraps. I reuse material in quilt tops to reduce waste from going to landfill. Just an idea. Love your content and really look forward to them. ❤😊

Times are definitely rough, for all the small businesses I know and my own :( I'm very lucky to have my main job as a nurse, I couldnt bring in the money I need to in this ecomomy without it 😢 I love using "nanna" florals from bed sheets and doona covers, ill have a video coming up soon about it! I love the fabrics you used to upcycle, though if im being honest, my heart broke a little bit seeing the review skirt get cut up, they usually sell for a fortune and hard to come across. Either way, great work and look gorward to seeing whats next for you :)

I have to say that you definitely inspire me with your ideas and do get it attitude to be so young. More young people and possible older need to take your impression. What kind of cardboard or not cardboard do you use in between your fabric? Thank you so much

As someone who has sewn since childhood and did through college, universoty and in business, I did slightly cringe when you purposefully made pleats in the edgae of the floral scrunchies 🙈 my guess is that as it was a made item you probably ended up cutting them slightly on the bias and they stretched out, you could try and counter balance it a bit by stretching the bottom a little more than the top fabric as you sew. As for your launch, do you think that you would benefit if your videos caught up with the current time? Im sure that if you had uploaded a launch prep video on the lead up to the launch then you may have recieved a few more orders 🤷🏻‍♀️
@kateleroux185
@kateleroux185 3 месяца назад
The pleats won't be noticeable when the scrunchie is scrunched. It just happens with stretchy fabric especially if it's cut a bit off grain.

Hi Taylah, I personally think it is the economy as things are tough for a lot of people at the moment. Keep forging ahead with your ideas & don't loose hope. On a different note, when you are using your seam ripper, put the shorter ball part on the bottom of your seam & run it along & the longer part should then rip the stitches & it won't tear your fabric. I have been sewing for at least 50 years or more & only found that info out the last few years 😂😂😂

Happy Easter 🐣. I have been following your channel for a while now and really love your scrunchies. Sadly I live quite far away and shipping here is extremely expensive so I have to safe up a bit before I can put in the next order, but in the meantime I am watching your videos. So, I wanted to give you some (hopefully) constructive criticism on the editing. I am by now means talented in editing and can only comment from a viewers perspective, but some parts of the videos can feel a bit long sometimes. Now, I like long videos, but they need to be broken up a bit more interesting. It maybe could help to combine the ‚doing stuff‘-parts with the talking parts. This could maybe be done with voiceovers or letting the talking parts you film fade into the doing stuff parts by having a continuation of your talking as the background instead of music. This mostly pertains to the long time lapses with the sewing machine. Or you could make little games by letting viewers guess how many scrunchies you sewed in an hour or something. With the packing videos it would be nice to hear the names or countries of the orders or talking about the scrunchies, I.e. how well they sell, if you also sell them on markets, if you still have more in stock and stuff. You could also talk about what you are watching (what happened in one of the episodes, how you like the show/movie) or what you are listening to. I hope this makes sense. For ideas on what to make in future videos: I think it could be fun to make bags or (pencil) cases to experiment with sippers without having to make a whole garment. And you could maybe bring some of that stuff to markets or put it online as a back-to-school product. With bags I mean something more pouch-like or project bags (often used in chrochet and knitting to store works-in-progress).

How about a video on replacing rotten elastic? Woven elastic will lose its stretch after several years so most likely the scrunchies you make will end up in a landfill. So a tutorial on how to replace the elastic in your scrunchies would be good. As for finding a good source for deadstock fabric, find jobbers (people who buy over produced fabric or left overs from a clothing manufacturer’s finished line). I only know places in L.A. but the people who work in the shop where you bought your machine might know of some relevant Australian connections. Hope that’s helpful. Please no more rotary cutting.
