38:33 I have to correct you on that part. If Dan hadn't won the 500 in 2011, he wouldn't have been invited to Vegas to begin with. He was only invited there as a guest driver for that challenge because of that 500 win. That's by far the biggest butterfly effect to come out of the 2011 finish. He would've lived to see 2012

Great video. WWTBAM’s decline here in the UK was always sad to me but I didn’t realise how much worse the US had it. The current format is way better than the second one but I still wish they stuck to the classic format completely. That Beatles question doesn’t really require exact knowledge of something as tiny and obscure as a car number plate. That number plate is infamous as a Paul Is Dead clue, so you don’t need to have memorised a bunch of car number numbers plates on a bunch of albums in case a question like that comes up. The Paul Is Dead conspiracy theorists claim that the 28IF refers to Paul being “28 if” he had survived, and LMW means “Linda McCartney Weeps/Widowed” (both of those claims are inaccurate anyway since he wasn’t 28 and he hadn’t met Linda yet when he supposedly died, but it’s still funny). So while I wouldn’t remember that by heart, seeing those options would trigger my memory of reading that. The Beatles are a very popular band and you don’t need to be a *huge* fan of them to have heard that theory, so I think that was a fair question, maybe it would’ve been fairer on the British version though
@bcschneider53
@bcschneider53 12 дней назад
The classic version was definitely the best version. And yeah, I hadn’t heard that theory when I made this video almost five years ago (which is kind of crazy to think about…), so it probably wasn’t *quite* as unfair as I initially said it was. It’s still not something in the same range as the $500,000 questions on the primetime version though

it definately was the best game show out there The only thing I didnt like after watching this video is that the contestants where not allowed to talk to each other . Yes the captian should have had the final decision (that makes sense) but why would you basically have to wait for suttleties and a contestant remarking its easy or he know it and nodding so the captian catches the hint and can remove a wrong answer. Obviously Daniel did not know the answer for the million, he based it on Curtis's remarks. The other thing i didnt like is when they offer the buyout, after the first 4 question answer, the next one would have things like a car. So effectively if the captian realizes he screwed up he can get a car but everyone else gets nothing? The buyout should logically be shared by all contestants not for the captian to take for himself. But you can't split the car in 5 or 4. And obviously they werent giving each of them a car.

it was definately the best game show but i didnt get why they made the 2 million progressive to 2.2 million. It made no sense because nobody ever won the top prize so whats the point of increasing it. but the combanation of the terminator and the captian being the only one who could remove the answer and the 5th question having to have 4 answers, made it very intresting.

A note about the tournament bracket: in the original UK Grand Slam, the eight winners of the first-round matches were re-seeded according to how much time they had leftover in the final round. Had GSN retained this aspect of the format, the quarterfinal matches would've been as follows: (1) Brad Rutter vs (14) Michelle Kitt (5) David Legler vs (6) John Carpenter (2) Ken Jennings vs (9) Ogi Ogas (10) Phyllis Harris vs (13) Leszek Pawlowicz What could've been with these alternative matchups? IMO, not much. Brad would probably win solidly vs Michelle, David would do the same to John Carpenter. Ken vs Ogi would've been closer than the actual final match, and Leszek would certainly not waver against Phyllis Brad vs David would be a much more interesting semifinal match, as would Ken vs Leszek. Anything could happen in these semis, but would've loved to see a Ken vs Brad matchup in the finals. Oh well...

Pretty simple, they don't want people to win money. That's why they kept changing the format. Millionaire during the Chris Tarrant era was the best, it wasn't broken and didn't need to be fixed, they changed it only to keep more money for themselves.

As a European (I think that's important because im not too big of a NASCAR fan), i think it would be more fair if they were just more trigger happy with red flags instead of cautions at the end of the race. And maybe they can add some sort of rule that excludes the restart formation lap(s) from the total number of laps to have it still finish under green.
@jacobevenson8702
@jacobevenson8702 Месяц назад
All I want is NASCAR (and even Indycar) to have one single guaranteed restart. Seeing a caution come out in Indycar with like 8 to go ending the race is absurd, but seeing crash after crash through multiple restarts in NASCAR is even worse. In my perfect world, a caution with 2 to go should end the race, a caution with any more than 2 to go should have a single guaranteed restart.
@bcschneider53
@bcschneider53 Месяц назад
Change 2 to 3 and I’d be willing to compromise here. I definitely get the desire for a green flag finish over one under caution, I just disagree with the “at all costs” aspect of it.
@jacobevenson8702
@jacobevenson8702 Месяц назад
@@bcschneider53 honestly it really all depends on the track, and it’s really hard to say that a caution after this arbitrary lap number ends the race but before it leads to a restart, kinda why using the white flag works for it. I’m really just all in favor of 1 GWC attempt in nascar and maybe working out something that could work in Indycar without using red flags.

As a Purdue fan we seem to be one of the very few teams with a consistent college basketball roster
@kylethomas2993
@kylethomas2993 Месяц назад
Aside from the actual basketball product degrading into a glorified three point contest, I think the biggest NBA lack of storyline difference is because players move to different teams so often. In the 80s and 90s, Bird was a Celtic, Magic was a Laker, Jordan was a Bull, Ewing was a Knick, Hakeem was a Rocket, Stockton and Malone on the Jazz, Robinson was a Spur, Drexler was a Blazer, Wilkins was a Hawk, English was a Nugget, Miller was a Pacer, Payton was a Supersonic, Thomas and Dumars were Pistons, Price was a Cavalier, Mullin was a Warrior. Not saying players shouldn't ever switch teams but it helps to have players identifiable with one franchise.

@@bcschneider53 I couldn't agree more, college basketball is my favorite sport due to the rivalries and every game feeling huge all season, but the portal and conference realignment has definitely soured my interest this offseason. I wasn't as bothered by the one and dones and two and dones because that only affected 20-40 or so players every year, but now you can no longer see young teams grow and develop over years and get attached to any players over multiple seasons. I'm glad to see Purdue has such a strong culture where only 1-2 guys leave a year, but there's only a couple of other programs in college basketball that are like that. I think you have a lot of good takes and hope to see you grow.

I've also heard that the show was rushed so rapidly, there was a fire in the heat chamber while a contestant was in there during the first taping. Also, longtime MLB Play By Play voice Matt Vagersian was supposed to be the host, but walked out after hearing of the premise. Rick was slightly better in the final 2 episodes, but he sure seems condescending at times, like he gets excited about some of the dangerous stimuli on the show. I feel that the prize money should've been bigger as contestants lives where on the line. The Chair had its surprises and jump scares, but at least had a controlled environment and they cared about the safety of the contestants. I honestly don't know if this shows could've been improved if it was never rushed to the air. I find it funny that they wanted more scripted content, yet American Idol, which might've been FOX's biggest show during the 2000's, debuted months after the Chamber, and two years after Greed ended.

It's almost impossible to win $1,000,000 because you have 1 in 26 chance of picking the million and you have to go all the way- which means to refuse life-changing money from the banker and relying just on luck- that what you picked is $1,000,000- but it means 50% chance of winning maximally $500- that's the left side.

0:52 just a friendly reminder that the British version of the show had a million pound question that asked what a number one followed by one hundred zeroes is called (which the contestant had to cheat to get right too, lol). This is something you learn by the age of 8. Sure, the US version had some stupidly easy million dollar questions (Dan Blonsky's comes to mind right away) but my point is the British Press is not in any position to complain lol.

I don’t think it was too common knowledge back in 2001. However the other options; Megatron, Nanomole and Gigabit, were kind of ridiculous. Ingram initially claiming he thinks it’s nanomole should’ve given it away that he wasn’t very smart because nano means something very small. I think in the UK show the million pound question is not always the most difficult. Part of the challenge is the nerve you need to go for it. The first ever million pound question in the UK was just naming which cricket team played at a certain ground, and the name of the ground being Chester kind of gave it away because it’s a Northern town and the wrong answers were all Midlands counties. If you knew Chester and Durham were Northern and Warwick, Leicester and Northampton weren’t (the latter being admittedly counterintuitive) you could easily make an educated guess that Durham was right. But if you don’t know for certain, you’re risking £468k. It’s not the only time the final question has been something that you can figure out by process of elimination if you know enough about the wrong answers. Whereas the £250/500k questions I think are often just obscure facts that you either know or you don’t, and most people don’t. America’s first millionaire had a final question that I would imagine was relatively common knowledge too

For the Tournament of Ten, in the interest of fairness to those seeded higher ($100k or $250k winners), the penalty for answering incorrectly should’ve been to drop one step down the money tree instead of all incorrect answers dropping to $25k. ($250k winners drop to $100k, $100k winners drop to $50k). I’m sure at least one the top five would’ve taken a chance at their $1M question if there was less money to risk.
