Yo Rich! Your intro was hilarious! Great answers man. I think the Aesop Rock was the PERFECT answer to question #2. The Pawz One was a nice surprise to see. That sucks about the stolen De La record. You have a ton more duplicate records than I do, congrats! Thank you for participating Rich.
I picked up Elton Motello's record with Jet Boy Jet Girl for cheap from my friend Ted ( ex Tower records mgr. ). I think I showed it on my " Bill And Ted's Excellent Vinyl Adventure " I love Sublimes " Rivers Of Babylon" !! 🎵 Dude, you have good taste, and a killer channel ! Santana III is excellent..
You are extremely kind to say so , and I really enjoy your channel, This is the whole reason that I do this - to connect and see other people's cool stuff.
It's good to drop in on your channel ! Oh, man.. I love that Monsters Of Folk album ! I found it thrifting 2 years ago on Cd and thouroughly enjoy it ! I have that Devo on an original. Silver Strand Hollywood Beach.. Right ! 😊
I'm so happy they repressed that Monster Of Folk, like I said the video - I was about to pay some REAL money and I breathed a sigh of relief when I saw the e-mail from VMP. Dooooooood, I loved Silver Strand, one of my best friends lived there and I have a ton of great memories, My wife (before we married) and I rented a place in Oxnard Shores and I still dream about living in that neighborhood.
My next repress should be Monsters of Folk ! I used to go down to Oxnard back in the late 70s ( for green ). I remember getting kicked of Silver Strand by a gang of locals ! Haha, no problem, though.. My friend lived right on Hollywood Beach !
Thanks, Brian! Your Italy trip is the stuff of my dreams, very envious over here. I hope it really is as awesome a trip as it looks for you and your family. 'Made of Rain' is the only one I don't have but when Richard Butler sings, I usually find a way to grab it. Love Spit Love is still a favorite of mine, too. Sincere thanks for your continued kindness, Brian.
Love the intro Rich! Love that shirt too from your Summer 2024 Fashion Collection. I always liked Seal but don’t have any. I’ve seen you show Culture before. I need some. I never buy 7”s though. That Rivers of Babylon record I would like! I saw the Psychedelic Furs on the following tour in Ottawa in /86 with The Mission UK as the opener. I jumped on the Santana train in the mid 90s and saw him in concert. Look for his Live in Osaka album called “Lotus”.. wish you could be here on 7/20 Rich! ✌️
Thanks very much, Mike! You know I can't resist acting like a fool in the intros. I tell my wife, "that's why I call it 'Embarrassment of Rich's', because I am bound to embarrass myself. Jamaican 7" singles are an expensive rabbit hole that I have so far (barely) avoided, but.....time will tell. Thanks for the recommendations and man, we were planning on trying to be there and mix it into our first trip to Boston but my orthopedic surgeon seems to have much less fun ideas.
First 4 Santana albums are great but after that they lost their hard Latin groove. Love a uncle Jam, bought that when it came out, ton of fun 80s Psychedelic Furs are top notch, very 80s but in a good way
I have been in VMP for over 7 years but lately I have dropped 2 of 3 clubs that I was in, they just had nothing exciting coming out. What really burned me was trying to use my credit. It was so difficult, their customer service was no help and I had to go to Redit for advice. It was a very bad experience. At least they now finally allow you to use your credit on box sets. I’m glad you are still happy with it, I may be done with it. I did look at that box set and was mystified on the selection
Hi Rich, love the way you talk mate, just straight forward with no BS, great stuff. not overly a fan of hip-hop/rap but im a fan of Eminem, ICP, NWA, D-12, 50 Cent. im a fan of 'real' country, Waylon, Willie, Loretta, Kris, Cash, George Jones, Jim Reeves, Alan Jackson, Reba etc (the classic artists!), also like some modern stuff as well, but not that pop crossover crap. Isbell isnt too bad from what ive heard. al fredo pasta, great stuff, im diabetic now so i cant eat that stuff anymore. sorry about your back injury but the bright side is that you got to spend more time with your little ones which not many fathers get to be able to do. just hope theres no pain now! thanks for the contest response mate, as requested i wont put you in the draw. the sound quality is pretty good with that microphone, love the 'bloopers' too LOL have subbed back mate and looking forward to watching some of your other content have a great weekend Rich - Lloyd
Some nice choices on the music side Rich. Big Isbell fan, have been since he played with the Drive By Truckers, another band you should check out. Being able to look after your kids full time is priceless. Can empathize with the bad back. Great entry. Cheers.
High end microphone! You were sounding good before but the tech is pretty cool. “There are some judgmental pricks in the vinyl community” 😂 Party in the dorm! Oingo Boingo! Saw them at the OC state Fair in Costa Mesa when we lived in Huntington Beach. I have that Trash Can Sinatras but on compact disc. Fettuccine Alfredo. There was a Bucco restaurant near the Bella Terra Mall in HB. I’m very sorry about the accident Rich, but I’m happy to hear about how it worked out with all the kids. I how your pain subsides. ✌️
Yep, Helmet's Betty is top-shelf! Their first 4 records are all pretty good. I interviewed Paged Hamilton for local paper when Aftertaste came out. He's a really cool dude. We had a great conversation about touring and opening for Nirvana in 1991; I don't think we talked about his new record at all. When we were finished, he went outside to sign autographs for an hour or so.
The first B 52 was by far my favorite. Each album after that seemed to lose a little bit of their quirkiness as they became more commercial. I’m glad you found some things on VMP, I just dropped 2 of 3 of the record of the month clubs.
I really think every month about dropping a track and I finally did - I get 2 records a month now. Used to a 4 track subscriber but they have been missing the mark lately. I really enjoy your channel and appreciate your content.
Hi Rich! Little Richard! I love that Sturgill Simpson and have one with the original artwork. I don't like his experimentation after this as I prefer his traditional C&W sounds on Metamodern. Nice Smiths 12" single. I'm thankful to have clean copies of the first 2 B52's albums. Legendary fun! I have a copy of Helmet's Betty on compact disc from back when it was first released. I really enjoyed the Lloyd Boon contest very much. Interesting to learn more about the vinyl community people!
Hi Rich, nice pick ups for May. I am afraid to go down the 12 inch singles avenue. I think though makes sense for my favorite bands. the electrafixion strategy was awesome on your part. I thought about the exact same strategy for the exact same record but then blew my funds on the Flaming Lips. (I made a May pick ups video also) the B-52’s record you picked up is super awesome and gets spun often in my house. Great video!
It's a real rabbit hole, my friend - I love so many bands that released great 12" singles. I'm trying to take it slow, it's rough because most of them are really $5-$10 records but online with shipping...but I'll never find them in the wild out where I live. Thanks for watching, I'll check out your May pick up video tonight 👍
Great video. I do not have any albums from Chris Isaak - Beyond The Sun Limited looks great. Spin me round I have purchased 3 or so times on whatnot, agree high energy family owned refreshing sellers.
I need to add Culture to my reggae collection. I’ve never seen that Sistrs Of Mercy before. Roxy Music’s Avalon is a deserted island pick for me. It’s one of my all time favorite albums Rich!
I started listening to Culture with the "International Herb" album and it got me hooked, so to say. I was already a stoner but this made me search through their catalog. 👍You always got the great music taste, Mike! Thanks for watching my rambling.
good lord this part is even more hardcore, I can't wait for my Prague trip in less than 3 weeks, they have a few nice record stores and your videos made me reaaaally hungry for the hunt :))
Sadly, I didn't get to do any record hunting when I was in Prague last year but I loved the city very much. Post a video of the records you find there! I'll watch for sure.
It was no picnic, I'm not a fan of them - this was my second surgery for them. Thanks for watching, Brian. Also, please keep up your great work over there, I never miss one.
Hi Rich! Nice Tool shirt! "Unseasonably hot and I am unreasonably old" 😂 Oh Boy is a great label as you said! I saw the So tour, my first of 3 Peter Gabriel concerts over the years. The last time was way back in the summer of /03. I've heard a lot of praise for Keith Whitley but haven't tried it. Agree with you fully on the first 3 B52's albums! Really fun stuff. The Sonic Temple tour is one of my favorite concert memories. Jason Bonham's band was the opener too.
Thanks for sticking around, Mike. I always appreciate the kindness. Any chance you got the postcard yet? Hopefully it makes it there with a little problems as possible.
Great pickups as always Rich, I always dig your videos. I’ve been eyeing up that Downward Spiral, I had an original UK way back but couldn’t get on with it. Sick Tool tee as well man, I’m seeing them at the end of this month!
Thanks for the kind words, I love the t-shirt, too. Picked it up at a show in New Jersey in 2019 that I got to take my sons to (they were 21 and 16 then, time flies) but as always Tool put on such an incredible spectacle. Hope you have an awesome time at the concert.
Dude, you fuckin crack me up. Nice haul. Did you grab the Electrafixion lp in the end? It's a great pressing and sounds sweet, definitely worth picking up if you see one about.
No, I did not get that damn record and it haunts me. I looked at all the day-after sales I could find online as well, no luck. I'm pretty bummed about. But, glad you enjoyed the video. 👍
I just found your channel. Great show. I've got a real laid back channel too, just a couple hundred subs. @MidFiMan - maybe we could eventually collaborate in some way.
Thanks for the kind words, I have a great time making these. I'll be checking out your channel and just send a line sometime on what you might have in mind for collaboration. 👍
Hello Rich..Im Paul...digging that Pogo album..had a handful of books and a figure too...Gonna have to check out Dead Pioneers...LL Cool J to the Smiths to Bad Religon you bet ya..just subbed to your channel btw...Peter Gabriel and Stevie oh yeah..great stuff great tag.Thanx for sharing and take care
Thanks for commenting about the Pogo album, it took me a damn long time to find it but it looks great next to my favorite Pogo comic. It's always great to see someone with similar tastes, I'm glad you stopped by and grateful for the kind words.
Thanks Rich! Enjoying you videos. Picked up the Jim Croce and Ramones, and much more last Saturday. My store, I'm pretty sure still had a Mudhoney box set as of yesterday. I just picked up The Hives there from the leftovers. The store is We Got the Beats in Lauderhill, FL, and they take orders over the phone, if you want to check tomorrow.
Great post, mighty lemon drops and soft cell are great pick ups. I didn’t get any record store day records since working but the mighty lemon drops I would have stood in line trying to get.
I was very happy to get that Mighty Lemon drops and really do hope they get a reissue campaign going for them. Hopefully you can find the RSD one soon at a reasonable price.
I left the Dead Milkmen behind, because I have a pretty good original. Otherwise, I would have grabbed it. I also almost bought Soft Cell and the Ramones. Nice additions.
Good grabs, Brian - I only had that Dead Milkmen one on cd from decades ago so I am glad to have a turntable-ready version. As always, thanks for watching - I'm looking forward to your next episode on 12" singles, it's really got me itching to try my own version here.
I haven't gone out for RSD in years. It got super corny and they didn't seem to release anything i've been interested in for years. Glad you found some good stuff.
There corny factor still plays in to it, no doubt Darrell - but as I sadi in a video a few weeks ago this year got me excited to try and see what I could get and I wasn't too disappointed. It just makes me wish there was a reliable place for people to trade RSD albums they don't really want to keep for one's that they do. I'd trade almost any of these for that Schoolly D or a couple others.
No idea if it would land with you, but I’d be happy to send you a copy of my band’s debut. We’re all aging punk rockers with different/shared history; Born To Lose, Riddlin Kids, and Sniper 66 to name a few. The new band is called Generation Exit, and the album is called Lifer. If you take time to check it out and enjoy the material, I’d be happy to send you a copy. Best regards, today and every.
