Welcome to Betta Days! I’m so happy you're here! ♥️
My name is Matilyn, I am a plant enthusiast, artist, and betta mom. I became acquainted with bettas at the young age of seven when my grandmother took me to the pet store and handed me a small, blue crowntail. I named him Blue Fin, and he quickly became my best pal. He even stuck around after my grandmother passed, becoming a link to someone who was very dear to me. Ever since then, bettas have had a special place in my heart.
For the last 5 years, I've been dedicated to learning all there is to know about proper betta care. I've learned a lot along the way, and can't wait to share it all with you! 📚 🐠

You should use watering cans. You can use it to water your house plants with the dirty water and use the watering can to pour water back into your tank. Or have two watering cans for that. It made it easier and quicker to change water on my smaller tanks
I just saw a FF episode that said a sand cap keeps the nutrients from the dirt... In the dirt.... keeps it locked down in the dirt, not spent in the water column and spent with water changes. How do you feel about that? Maybe floater plants would do poorly on that set up. your sweet fishy boy looks blessed and happy! Youre a little "mother nature" with sweet Walter! ❤❤❤❤❤❤ Thanks for your tank update. Great share! Great video!
Thank you so much! I don't know a ton about capping substrate, but before i decided what I was going to do I talked to a friend, asking her what she did. She told me her tank was thriving and sent pics, and it was! Had the same substrate and wasn't capped. She said she didn't dose any other fertilizer and it was fine. I may do more research one day and cap my next one. 🤷♀ Always learning!
Cool! Very good idea...i too was like "12 bucks for that?" When i saw them for sale LOL. I think you're creative for using just simple basic household items to come up with this. Tactful for the win!
Looking like a lovely tank, and Walter is a very striking little fellow, too! I feel like immediately attempting to eat the snails is a signature move of shorter finned bettas. All of my plakats have immediately attempted to chew everything as soon as they go in their forever tank. haha I think your clover-shaped leaves are (Hydrocotyle Leucocephala) Brazilian Pennywort, by the way. Not sure if it's quite as large as a typical BP leaf, but it's definitely a Hydrocotyle species. It might also be Hydrocotyle Tripartita or Hydrocotyle Sibthorpioides, two dwarf pennywort species that are also very common. One of my favorite categories of plants, especially in betta tanks. They give great places to rest on. :)
The info you came here for (it's superfluous, as well): 4:26 Airline tubing inside diameter 3/16 inch (or) 0.1875 inch (or) 4.78 millimeter Suction cup inside diameter 3/16 inch (or) 0.1875 inch (or) 4.78 millimeter Connector T shape (not K shape)
Love the tunnel! My betta, Michael, has a tunnel too! He was freaked out the first time he went in it but its became a favourite of his to swim through.
@Betta_Days my son has a snail/shrimp tank that we originally planned to add a betta to after the shrimp were established. But now he's attached, so I'm too scared to take the risk
I love Hygger products! Those rocks look awesome! Love the new setup. Gotta love all the little critters that appear in our aquariums lol. I remember when I first saw a super small worm swimming near my floating plants, I told myself "I'm done, that's gross!", but here I am still an aquaholic 😂
Your new betta is very cute and now he can live happily without hungry bichirs chasing him. God bless you for saving this innocent lil fish and now you are officially my fav youtuber. ❤
So I went to that KG Tropical online store and I saw nothing for live bettas also I’m in contact with someone from Indonesia who wants to sell me a betta fish but when I was talking with the shipper they were telling me that it can take months to get it is that a scam
@@JunaidWolf3@JunaidWolf3 I feel like that's a while to have a betta in a box, though! But I also know that many are scammed by sellers in Indonesia. Go with your gut though!
Great video! We have our male galaxy betta in a 10g long and he absolutely loves it. Personally I wouldn’t do anything under 5g but bettas are known to be very hardy and do quite well for themselves in smaller spaces out in the wild. ❤
Great video! Just wanted to make a recommendation for beginners though, while 5 gallon tanks are easier to find a place for them in your home, the bigger the tank, the easier it is to maintain its cycle, therefore the betta would be safer with a beginner if kept in a larger tank. And lots of plants also help to maintain the water parameters of your bettas tank! 🌿🩵 I love that your tanks have lots of plants!
I switched from a 36 gallon bow front to a 20 gallon long. I had a hard time reaching the bottom of the bow front because it was 22 inches deep. So the switch. My Betta has done nothing but hang out under the piece of driftwood since the change ! It’s been 4 months since the switch. He was not in the bow front for more than a few months after I bought him. He’s a green Plakat Betta, still less than a year old. Any ideas how to get him out swimming around. There’s loads of live plants rocks. There’s only a school of green neons 11 and 5 black neons, 3 white clouds. 3 Cory’s, 4 Ammano Shrimp .
The fish that are in with him could be stressing him out if he is in hiding all the time. I just rescued a betta who was in a 20 gallon with other fish for half a year. His previous owner talked about how he hid all the time, but since I got him and placed him in his own tank (5 gal), he hasn't stopped swimming around! He's the fastest and most active betta I've ever seen! Hope this helps! 😊
@@Betta_Days they maybe. But these are all the same fish that he shared the other tank with. Maybe I look bigger now since the bow front from inside makes everything outside the tank look smaller. Even my White Clouds are hanging mid to low , and the black neons , they used to hang in the front mid to upper are all hanging around the bottom behind the plants. I don’t think any of them have adjusted to the change.
Bettas can have what is called "jumping marble gene", wich means some of them can completly change color and it can happen more than once in their life. I had the chance of getting one in the past, he went from blue to light brown!
This tall tank fashion must be an american thing. Where I live we only have long ones since my grandpa's age, he was a fishkeeper too, it's family tradition.
A five-gallon tank is best and doesn't take up much more space, but if you really don't have the space, you could put a really small betta in there and maybe upgrade him later. :)
I have males and females together in my grow out, and seperate the aggressive ones as they mature. There's sometimes a few adult males in there at a time, and I actually have to separate females more often than I thought I would, lol!
