I've been a vintage keyboard and synth geek for 43 years now. It's been a miraculous mix of saving up and luck that has allowed me to collect a truly wonderful collection. The mighty Roland Jupiter 8, the versatile Super JX10, the RS-505, the legendary Yamaha CS80, the classic Mini Moog, the soulful Yamaha CP70, the timeless Rhodes and Wurlitzer, the powerful OB8, and the captivating Solina and Clavinet. Here's the deal: it's not about showing off my epic gear. I love putting my skills to the test by covering tracks from the masters themselves-Vangelis, Faltermeyer, JM Jarre, TD etc.. It's like hopping into a musical time machine, diving deep into their iconic tunes, and giving them my own twist. I'm also on a never-ending mission to create my own music. Though I have to admit, that elusive level of perfection keeps me on my toes. Looks like I'll be chasing it for the rest of my musical life! The journey is half the fun, right? The Yamaha CS 80 is the most heaviest synth, it's weight is almost 100 kg, so i hope you're studio is on the groundlevel and i suppose you have a special construction underneath it. Nice piece of work, Vangelis was maybe the best synthplayer in the world.
Great having your music behind this video, perfect music. My studio is also inspired by only one man, Vangelis. Not for Vangelis choices in instruments, but his recording style of "one-take" playing it all live on the fly. Lost my entire vintage studio in a divorce of 2008. Since then, been building up another studio that I finished (you know finished:) last year. All new instruments from what I learned over the last 56 years as a musician. Analog for mono voices and digital for poly. Pattern sequencers to assist when my two hands and two feet are busy. No computer, just a 24 track hardware recorder and a 32 channel analog mixer subbed down to 8 (4 stereo) tracks at the recorder. Recording wet and one take, when the song is finished so is the recording. This year will be adding a MAC and LogicPro just for mastering so I can run lower levels at the multi-track stage.
I want to play as much as possible live as well. Will have to work on the position of the instrument - I can’t reach all of them. I do use Logic - to sync everything and I like their midi arp. I mix vintage with digital and also plug ins like Omnisphere and Pigments. 44 years of experience in my case ;-) And no divorce fortunately
Your great synths have large sweet spots and great sounding VCOs without effects. That being said, synths like electric guitars are better with effects.
Oufff what a collection. Congrats mate. They are in good hands! My most beloved Vangelis sounds are from the Soil festivities album. It’s also my No1 album of him. Like the flutey sound in the beginning of Movement 1. So nice. What synth is it? I mean it’s clearly played by keys…Greetings from Germany!
All I can say is I am very envious...got to make do with the VST instruments and still not found a good one for the CS -80 as yet...Great Studio and Great vid ...Cheers Les🙂👍
Very nice, the way the cam pans along your wonderful instruments as their sounds emerge. Btw: an 808 has no stereo out, one is mono and the other out is mono at high volume (which you noticed). So to pan sounds you want to use the individual outputs. Nice to see that the VP-330 MKI found a loving home! Which phaser is that Solina running through? And can you say anything about the Yamaha EX5r?
There are some beautiful new modern synths out there - and I do consider some new stuff as well...but for now I have my hands full with the old stuff :-)
Vangelis will smile with this version that is inspired by his style. Vangelis never attended a conservatory and created music that was inside him. A truly amazing artist, a pioneer of the ambient sound. Even the great Jan Michele Jarre has Vangeli's album in his private collection
