The National Council for the Traditional Arts (NCTA) is the nation's oldest non-profit organization dedicated to the presentation and documentation of traditional arts. We honor deeply rooted cultural expressions passed on through families, communities, and tribal, ethnic, regional, and occupational groups, presenting the finest traditional artists through programs that facilitate dynamic and exhilarating experiences for artists and audiences alike.
In addition to our flagship program, the National Folk Festival, and its legacy festivals with which we proudly partner-the Lowell, Richmond, and Montana Folk Festivals-our initiatives also include cooperative agreements with the National Endowment for the Arts and National Park Service. Committed to fostering appreciation for our nation’s diversity and collective identity, the NCTA believes that the sustainability of and contact between American traditions promotes social and cultural cohesion essential to a healthy democratic society.

Don't you just love when a performer gives an historical lesson behind the playing style or an old song? Thank you Riley for this great video. We much appreciate your work and all the soulful old timey music. All the best to you!
So sad to hear about this incredible musician, and a wonderful man. I will always cherish the jam we were in together at PSGW, until 3 AM, trading riffs on the harmonica...I will miss you @Phil Wiggins, as will the rest of the world...
in my lifetime, I have occasionally given $1 or less to people performing their craft in the public. but you were different.... when I heard you 2 at the West Jefferson farmers market, I gave yous $10 of the $20 I had. Was the first time Id ever seen yous. didnt know you were mother and daughter. the voice harmony was so pleasant to hear. best of life to yous all, and stay on your open case performin days. You may only reach a few ears, but the response can reach many. Brent
I love your music! I wonder if we could be related. My fad , his dad ,and dad's brother were pickers and dad was a preacher. I pick a little, but no where near as good as you!
Have seen these ladies in many RU-vid videos - they are always "with it" - talented and engaging. This one is unusual in that Martha gives us some of her "the best" dancing before performing songs - she usually has us wait until the second half, or near the end of a performance to be amazed by her footwork. And what a thoughtful and authentic setting for the had to be virtual due to strong COVID epidemic going on cicumstances. So, from here in Shenandoah County, thanks to NCTA for this video - and THANKS! Martha and Emily for being so generous with your sincere, meaningful, and moving talents. 😍💐
If I was super wealthy I would buy Ramon a Jumbo Macias bajo sexto so he doesn't have to play with that amp. Belen....you are amazing! Half my family in Mexico looks like you and the other like Ramon. You guys are amazing!!!
So sorry to hear of the passing of Walter "Wolfman" Washington. I had the pleasure to see him live at the Lowell Folk Festival in 2020. May he Rest in Peace, and may his memory be eternal.
