Nice review, the strange thing that the battery % is visible if you use Leica Focus app. Autofocus is great in AF-S and good in AF-C, too bad auto exposure and auto focus is limited to 5 shots per second. It would be helpful if it focused only on the eyes and not the body or you could choose.

Really wish they updated the firmware to included the battery percentage in camera. I agree with everything you said.

Hi, and thanks for your video. I had a SL 601, first model... for two years, and the only time it fell on a wooden floor, the battery was stuck and couldn't take it out... Sent it to Wetzlar for an eventual repair... I bought it second hand two years ago for 2'100 USD... Wetzlar asked 2'890 for the repair... Even though I loved my Leica SL.. I had to refuse the repair, and they kept the camera.... I really hesitate to buy an SL2-S... but after my experience of "it's solidity", the camera is not the best resistant as said or pretended to be. One fall and lost the camera. :-((

Oh wow. I don’t blame you after experiencing that. I hope you were compensated for them keeping the camera.

Really nice vid man. Subbed! I'm seeing this camera all over youtube today cuz I just posted another sprocket hole vid. I think I'm sold though. Gotta get me one cuz doing sprocket hole photos in a yashica is kinda a struggle. Especially to do Horizontal shots. If you want a laugh, check out my youtube shorts where I slam some 35mm in my yashica. BTW that is a nice scanning setup mines so janky lol.

I’m so torn on this camera. I love the size and weight and operation. But the corners are so weak that sometimes I wish I was just shooting a (muskier and heavier) film SLR with a good 28mm or 24mm lens. It often feels like the only usable part of the image is the equivalent of a single 35mm frame. I know there are medium format cameras with better lenses, and there are means of adapting 35mm film into them. But the loading is always something of a kludge, while the sprocket rocket’s film winding is rather good. I sometimes think about getting a torn or broken folding camera, and hacking that lens onto it. If Lomo ever made, say, a Sproket Rocket Pro which used the lens from one of their nicer medium format cameras like the Lubitel 166+ or the LC-120, I think that would be a big winner. It’d no doubt bulk up the camera, and a 75mm lens would have a very different look, but the gains in IQ and control would be worthwhile.
@BrianCho

I definitely resonate with how you feel about the build of this camera. I had it as my third "everyday carry" camera while in Alaska as a backup. I love the ability for the Sprocket Rocket to capture the sweeping landscape of an image, but I do agree that if this camera had a "pro" version it would become much more successful and useful. Fingers crossed, hoping for Lomography to release another iteration!

i have this lens. no complains. image quality is good and sharp. everything is good. but the focal length is not for me. too tight, and not enough depth that i need. But i would recommend anyone else if they want to have a 50mm equivalent as their starter.

Thanks for the great review! Btw, I think the sensor on the EVF may be only on that particular camera. My SL2-S Reporter doesn’t get finicky at all. Btw, have you tried setting the focus throw angles? I haven’t seen anyone review on it. I think it helps with the “wired focus” problem. That was one of the features that made me interested in this camera, but I haven’t tried it myself.
@BrianCho

I figured it probably had to do with the particular loaner model I received from Leica. Seems like an odd issue to have with Leica's engineering track record. I did read from another comment about setting the manual focus settings to not be acceleration based! I missed that when I was reviewing the camera unfortunately.

@@BrianChoto be honest, it’s quite hard to find how to videos for the Leica SL2-S. Not a whole lot of people use them (at least not on RU-vid), and most review videos are outdated because Leica has updated the firmware a few times. As a result, I’m still learning how to use the camera. 😂 again, thanks for the wonderful review.

Prime just means the lens does not have zoom. It's a single, fixed focal length, which this lens is.

@@stantheman1976 okok, so prime is better?
@stantheman1976
@stantheman1976 5 месяцев назад
@@harrysharma1 prime is not better or worse. It depends on what you are shooting. If you're doing anything where you'll need to get closer to your subject and can't physically move closer you'd need a zoom of some type. It's one of those situations where there is no right or wrong answer. Prime and zoom are just lens types. There are literally thousands of each.

you shot some photos with A7c right? have you tried it in full frame mode as well, or just cropped. I'd be curious to hear how it behaves while having it in FF mode as well. my friend has the 50 f0.95 and on FF it looks pretty dope. So yeah.

@BrianCho

Leica themselves actually had their red dot covered. It's possible this SL2-S was a loaner model and therefore never had the red dot to begin with.

14:35 one thing you didn’t touch on in this section is that you can actually change the manual focus settings to not be acceleration based. In fact, you can dial in how many degrees you want it to turn from close focus to infinity! So it’s really the best focus by wire system out there.

16:06 also the Leica 24-70 focuses much faster than the Sigma. As a general rule the Leica made SL lenses focus better than the Sigmas on the SL cameras.

Hey, Sayan this side I have one question. Actually I am a student and just got one second hand fuji camera. Now I want a lens for night time videography. I am also an artist who posts various videos. I have a few lights and as I have my college during day time coming and drawing at night is kind of relaxing but can't record as my current lens has 2.8 f stop. I am planning to buy one lens that will give me the liberyof shooting some film footage for my job and also those of my artworks during night. so which f stop would be a better option for me a0.95 or a 1.2 or a 1.4. I actually don't have a lot in my pocket and at Max can just buy one lens. So if you can help me a bit would be great. Lots of love from India🇮🇳🇮🇳
@BrianCho
@BrianCho 7 месяцев назад
Hi Sayan. 0.95 and 1.2 lenses are notoriously hard to focus and typically produce soft images. Unless if your 1.2 lens has autofocus I'd stick with a 1.4 lens.

As far as I understand NP mode activities at 800 ISO so you could shoot it with Portra 800 at night. From my experience Natura 1600 looses sensitivity really fast even when frozen. So I don’t think this really shows what the camera can actually do in low light.

Thanks for the Sprocket Rocket review. When I feel the need for a 24x70mm panoramic image like that produced by the Sprocket Rocket, I load a roll of 35mm film into one of my 6x7cm medium format cameras. However, the widest lens I have for my 6x7cm medium format camera is a 50mm lens. I may try the Sprocket Rocket with its 30mm lens.

If you use the mask to cover the sprockets, it creates even more striking panos. The exposed sprockets are fun, but masking them makes the images feel a bit more polished.
