Not sure if you guys read the comments from old videos but my uncle was involved in the worst injury I’ve ever heard of. He was in the passenger seat of a car going through an intersection and a car hit his door going 70 mph. He was internally decapitated, the doctors at the hospital he was at didn’t want to operate on him because they thought it was pointless, they were convinced he was going to die anyways and they really didn’t know how to deal with his injury. Every bone in the right side of his body was shattered like glass the doctors said both his lungs collapsed 2 times, once individually each and both together at one point. There were MANY other injuries, but the doctors said altogether, the odds of surviving that exact list of injuries was like 1 in 10^32 or something like that. Basically nobody has ever survived what he went through and nobody ever will again. But the craziest thing is he survived the internal decapitation which is insanely rare and then literally like a month later someone from the same neighborhood also got into a car accident and survived being internally decapitated

That is soooooo true Skizz, but then again, I think you are BOTH funny. I have seriously had to STOP watching you all when I am awake hurting at night UNLESS I get up and go to the living room because I have laughed out loud before catching myself. I wake up my hubby!!! currently on the up and up from a long period of perfectionism-induced misery. Appreciate the talking (not necessarily specific advice, but a lot of stories that paint a bigger picture), as well as the evidence that you need others to keep you in check. You two are clearly each other's rocks for a lot of things, and I know I'd be unstoppable if I had friends like you guys are to each other.
Learning "Adequate is ok" was one of the hardest things to accept after a mental breakdown. But once I've accepted that and remembering the fun in learning and creating without that "it's not good enough" or "im not good enough" is transformative. Just give it a go. And have fun with it. Awesome podcast!
Hearing that Impulse has anxiety when recording makes me feel so much better about myself. I stress so hard when I hit the record button, my voice cracks and I feel like throwing up. After I get it done, the pressure melts away and I'm back to normal.

When Impulse and Skizz were listing athletes who were passionate about being the best they could be, a quote came to mind from someone who also devoted his professional life to being as perfect as possible... “Perfection is not attainable, but if we chase perfection we can catch excellence” - Vince Lombardi. Vince's passion for perfection drove his team and his players. They succeeded on the field and, for the most part, they succeeded in life. They applied that principle long after their playing days were over. In my opinion, Vince's quote reflects one of the healthiest outlooks on the attempt to achieve perfection I've ever heard... Know it isn't possible so don't beat yourself up during the attempt. Chase it relentlessly and you will achieve excellence. Excellence is an extraordinary achievement that anyone should be proud of.
I still wonder to this day what would have happened if I wasn't forced to match or beat what my current job is doing for me. I'm the sole breadwinner for my family... so I had to be responsible... yuck! 🤣😭
It's a scary thing to change directions this late in life (as a 40-year-old mom who is working on her art career and moving into content creation). When you have so many people relying on you it's hard to leave that safety net.
I was putting grain in a feed bin, and when the bag was empty, I would neatly fold and stack them by the wall. My horse trainer watched me for a minute, then took a bag from me and tossed it on the pile. "My grandpa told me that you have to learn what is good enough in life. Why waste your time folding these bags that we are just going to throw away?" 😅 Save yourself some time, and don't be a perfectionist. Haha
Skizz, you wanna see mediocrity in the Olympics? Look up RayGun, she was so bad, people developed a conspiracy that she rigged her entry somehow. She singlehandedly got her entire sport removed from the Olympics, when this was its first year. Its not as funny as it sounds, its almost sad. Truly devalues the rest of the gods out here performing in the Olympics.
Hey guys. You two have inspired me in so many ways. In fact, I recently started a MC Channel. I thought I was too old to start something like this, having dedicated over 30 years to music (I’m another percussionist, by the way!). Anyway, my channel is very new, but one video seems to be taking off and it’s one where I address this very topic. I’ve had to adopt the phrase, “Done is better than perfect.” I’d really love to connect with you two somehow. I’m another 40+ drummer turned Minecrafter and feeling like the future is bright.
I've been eating through all your past episodes and I can't admire enough the courage it probably took to tell the Jackass story. Considering I'm here well over a year since this was posted, I don't see this being read but you're both such amazing people and I just want to thank you for the positive impact you've both had on my life. Imp and Skizz perfectly described the inertia I have with music production. I've been doing ensemble music for 14 years, and a few years ago I realized I also wanted to produce solo music. I got a DAW and since then, every month or so, I've opened it, made a little bit of something that sounds cheesy and mediocre to me, and closed it again. Of course it's something that I really want to do since I haven't given up, but I just haven't found my way to get past that freeze yet.
My favorite song with a double entendre is forgetter by red vox which has an absolutely hilarious music video, the chorus says Forgetter Which can be interpreted as either Forgetter Forget her And forget it
