Hi, I actually work on a PC desktop, I want now to buy a mac to be able to work outdoor. Are there any problems transferring files from Windows to mac?
To be honest I have a hard drive that I moved all my files over too before moving them to the Mac, and it was no problem. I'm not sure exactly how to do it directly from a MacBook to a Desktop but I'm sure it's not complicated. Nowadays all the file types are so similar it's not as big of a thing as it used to be. Which Mac do you want to get?!
@jrl__alessandro9127 I actually have a network attached storage drive so I just use that. Depending on the size of the files though I mean you could even use a jump drive. But depending on files it might be worth getting a decent external one. I hear Samsung's are good.
Excellent video mate. Really in depth analysis and I can see you've put in lot of research Ito this video. As someone who's just upgraded to an M3 Pro MBP from an Intel 8th gen quad core i5, the Apple silicon is really that much better and that more efficient. It's crazy that how in video exporting the fans didn't even spun up in a 2 minute 4k clip pro res, it didn't even took 20 seconds to export while using less than 20W in total for the all the encoders and CPU and GPU combined. The only thing I wish it could be a bit better at is the GPU. While I do find the performance to be good enough I do wish it could be better when I do occasionally game on it. Compared to similar priced windows laptops which could be found with a 4050 like the ROG G14, the M3 Pro GPU is slightly behind. But like you mentioned in the video, I agree with your point that Apple silicon devices are overall the best laptops and are the jack of all traits type of laptops
You need 64Gig of ram. Depends on your Budget for GPU RTX 4060 is a good starting point. (I run a 4090) but i game at 8k with my Samsung 57. Love your channel keep the Videos coming
Thanks man! Yeah I think the extra ram might be worth it for sure. I slapped my 2070 in here and it's running really well. I'll get some vids up on it soon. Really appreciate the support. 8k gaming?!! I didn't even know you could. What has looked the best on there so far? And what are you jamming now?
Great work! Looking forward to see the results and comparison (vs Mac) when you get the GPU as well. Your setup is very similar to what I was thinking of getting for me! (14700K, rtx 4070, deepcool Ak620, Asus z690-p, 32gb ddr5 CL 32 memory and 2tb ssd).
Thanks! It's running like a champ! Really happy with it so far. I ended up slapping the 2070 in here and I have to say, I'm really impressed with it. Will get up some videos soon sharing the results. It was a lot of fun. I already want to build another one lol. Are you going to do it?!
Nice work man! Now, this might seem maybe excessive, but more LEDs, lighting makes such a difference. Obviously not with hardware performance, but mentally, you enjoy being around your computer. That old caveman in us that says, "shiny nice, shiny gooood". Also just a follow up from your hardware encoder video, I think perhaps that might have been an issue specific to Davinci Resolve. Nvidia introduced hardware encoding as far back as the GTX 1080 cards, they're hardware encoding is called NVENC, just look up NVENC support Matrix. In Adobe you have an option to use a Mercury Playback Engine, which specifically supports Nvidia GPU acceleration. But you found a workaround so that's what counts I think 😉. For the new GPU, just keep track of how much power it will use when running at max - you need to make sure your battery can supply enough for all your components; including fans, motherboard, everything basically when running at full power. The newer GPUs are quite power hungry as well.
Yeah good call on the LED's. Now that I am a lot more confident with the PC building, I could see myself looking for deals on cool pieces down the line. Ok so the thing is, for some INSANE reason, Nvidia doesn't support 10 bit 4:2:2... which is the most common codec EVER. They support other janky ones but not the one they should... which is annoying. I ended up putting the 2070 in my new rig and it's running like a champ. I'm actually really impressed. I'll get some videos up soon about it. I already want to build another one lol.
Oh yeah, I've had issues with echo as I keep moving my studio around and it's tough to sound treat the rooms I'm in... it's tough. I can use voice isolation with Davinci Resolve which really helps though, but sometimes I forget. It's tricky to get good sound sometimes without making the room look like a recording studio.
Based off reports of hot running ssd and also unreliability i would of taken a swerve on a samsung ssd, but hopefully youll be fine.. crucial t500 seems to be a highly regarded drive with newer more efficient powerful tech. But hopefully yours will suit you fine.. I think try and get to 64gb ram No reason to cut it fine with a gpu and cpu of that quality. Wouldnt want a bottleneck for the sake of a pack of ram. 4080 super would be great. Macbook magic mask battering time. How about run some cinebench 2024, get hwinfo and show us what temps and performance your getting so far..
Interesting on the hard drives! I'll keep that in mind. Thanks. Yeah I think the extra ram might be a good call. I'll test that out more in the near future here on the channel. So I ended up putting the 2070 my friend gave me into this machine and I have to say... it's running dam well. I'm quite impressed. I'll have more up on that chan about that soon too with some temps etc.. 👊
👏 Great job! It’s a very nice looking build. Modern PCs have come along way from the punched sheet metal and rats nest of dangling wires that they used to be.
Thanks! I know right? I had an old hard drive that I wanted to install... it has some weird pins on it which I recognized as the Master/Slave drive pins.. gosh just typing them out sounds wrong lol.
If all you're doing is "talking head" videos, a decent 720p bit rate is good enough, why would viewers waste bandwidth on talking head narration type content?
You're not wrong. I can't speak for others but I know I personally watch a lot of content on a big screen 4k TV and I always appreciate when the content has nice quality. Do MOST people watch it that way? No. But I like to watch and check out my own vids sometimes so, I'm guilty of letting my pride get in the way sometimes. Pride is expensive!
@@thesahdstudio lol, definitely, and bandwidth is expensive too, if what you're doing actually justifies watching the content in a higher quality stream, but as I said, talking head stuff, I often go all the way down to 360p, no sense in watching someone talk in 4k when both home wired and cell data limits can be hit quickly and are $$$$$
Cool PC! I’m torn betwn buying a M3 Pro MacBook 14 laptop or a Pc. Since you have both a M1 Max and a fresh PC, can you plz do a comparing video with timeline scrolling, playback, exports time and effects (maybe on both DR & PP 😅 ?). It would be amazing. So much synthetic benchmark on YT, not so much reel editing comparing. BTW, go to 64gb of ram! For graphic card, A770 seems cool for video editors (some articles on Puget blog and videos on Tech Notice) but if you want to game, 4070 super (ti is a great bonus) seems to be a smart goal!
Heck yeah I will! You betcha. Can't wait. Maybe not Premiere Pro though :) I know.. I feel like I'm doing NEW things just creating content on these computers because I can't find ANYTHING like it on RU-vid... It's all benchmarks and NO examples. Lame. It's what I want to watch so I figure I'll just create it. I think I'm just going to try that 2070 in the other PC and see how it does. If it's not good enough then I'll yolo on a new video card. Maybe I'll try and pick up a decent monitor this weekend. I can't decide what size to get. Better smaller one or worse big one lol.
On monitors, one thing that I realized is that for a larger monitor, you almost have to go with a higher resolution because if not, you will see the dots which would be very noticeable on editing, I would think. I like to run my PC games at the native monitor resolution, so a higher resolution of the monitor means more GPU horsepower necessary. Something to think about in the whole cost / performance conundrum. What about dual monitors, maybe that is the sweet spot. 😎
@@blindrocket Haha nice suggestion! I agree with you though... a bud of mine reminded me to buy the monitor for the game I want to plat... what IS that? Well, I mean to be honest I've always wanted to play CyberPunk at 4k with a decent frame rate.. but that's practically out of the question, even now in 2024! Really though I want to jam Path of Exile 2 when it comes out, and that shouldn't require a 4090... so maybe I can dial it back a bit. Still not sure... but maybe a lower card/monitor can handle PoE 2 nicely. You playing anything fun?
@@thesahdstudio I’ve mostly been a FPS gamer on PC. I recently wanted to play the just released next gen game called Bodycam, which looks super realistic due to being the latest Unreal Engine. I meet the minimum system requirements but barely lack on the CPU!!! I can’t believe it. 😢 I bought this gaming rig a few years ago and it’s held up great but apparently I’ll need an upgrade if I want to play the next gen stuff.
As you have discovered you're not ahead without that discrete GPU, you should see a world of difference when you get one. The last time I built a Windows desktop the 1060 was the latest and greatest so I obviously can't help with GPU recommendations 😂
The 1060 came out in 2016! Lol. Time flies doesn't it.. Yeah I think you're right. I THINK what I'm going to do is instead of yolo on a vid card, I'll just move that 2070 over and see how it performs. I'll buy a monitor first and see how video editing / gaming goes then. Thanks for the comment! Can't wait to see what happens next!
When you get a GPU, put your nvme drive in one of the other slots. Because the top slot when combined with a GPU is shared. So instead of 16 lanes to the GPU it will give you 8 lanes. So by swapping the ssd to the inserts below you will get the full 16 lane support. Also in the bios make sure you activate both the GPU and the integrated encode/decodeers that are on the intel Chip. Also check in the bios that you are getting the correct ram speed settings based on your chip and that the Bios is up to date. You can run some stress tests to check your thermals. If you find that you are thermal throttling you can undervolt the chip for better consistent power.
Amazing! Thanks for the great comment. I will. Man, it sure is a comlicated Bios... I coudln't find any mention in there of any iGPU settings. I did enable XMP for the ram and it looks like its working... but jeez my ram was bottlenecking during video editing HARD. I hope the GPU fixes it right up. It should right. And good call about the M2 drive... I will do that. I thought I read something along the lines of what you're saying. Out of the 3 below it, do you think it matters which slot it should go in?
A graphics card is gonna make a WORLD of difference! I'm excited for you to get one! I have a 3060ti with 8GB of VRAM and it works great for 8-bit sony footage, but definitely would recommend either 12GB or 16GB of VRAM for 10-bit. There are some nice 12GB 3060s and 16gb 4060tis out there that are (relatively) affordable that, when combined with that 14700K, will demolish 10-bit Sony footage. Awesome video, love seeing the process!
Nice! I can't wait. Those are good suggestions. I DO like the idea of having at least 16gb of Vram. I wonder too, since the Intel can cover the codecs for the video editing, if the say, 24gb of Vram in the AMD cards would do more than the Nvidia cards... although Puget Systems seems to suggest that Nvidia cards ARE better for video editing though I didn't really understand why. Can you game alright on your 3060ti? Where do you notice it falls short (if ever)?
So I edited THIS video on it (which is why there's not a lot of effects etc.. I don't have that stuff installed yet) and while the editing was smooth, the HUGE bottleneck so far is the ram. I don't know if I either need more (64gb at least?) OR if the additional VRAM on the GPU will be the difference and make for smooth editing. It's smooth it's just, when it re-caches or something it stops everything for a couple seconds. I'm sure I'll figure it out. Excited but it's getting $$$! p.s the music a little too loud. Sorry about that. Once I settle in everything will be much nicer... I hope.
APSC IS good enough in low light for most people. It's not BS just because full frame is better. The thing is "Pro" RU-vidrs are not most people. In fact many youtubers shoot on cameras with worse low light performance than the A6700 and they are perfectly fine with that. I spoke to a youtuber this past week who just got a Sony ZVE-10 and she couldn't be happier. Granted she had a $200 off brand camera before lol but you get my point.
Oh for sure! The a6700 is incredible and more camera than MOST people need. I think I was just thrown off by Sony calling it an "Influencer" camera. When you watch Gerald Undone interview actual creators about the gear they use, I've never once heard anyone say "the a6700!". But that doesn't mean it isn't awesome.
@@thesahdstudio I wouldn't expect any of them to say the A6700 either lol. Remember these guys are not the majority. They are the top tier got tens of thousands of dollars to throw at camera gear too. So they aren't going to pick an APSC camera if they got the cash to burn. I've listened to a few of them try to justify why they needed to shoot on Red cameras etc and I just roll my eyes every time. I think these RU-vidrs have skewed our viewes on what's needed to shoot great videos for RU-vid. I get the Sony marketing too. It's not targeting the big name establishment creators. It's targeting a wider group including the people aspiring to be like those influencers. Plus it's priced right in the middle of the ZV-e10 and the ZV-e1 which are more for vloggers anyways.
Haha awesome! Yeah the M1 Max still just rips. It always amazes me when I try other computers that AREN'T Apple Silicon just how fast they are.... and the battery!
So glad you found the video!! Welcome aboard 👊 Got ALL my parts for my very first ACTUAL build! Just waiting on the stinkin' hard drive... ugh. Dammit NewEgg why'd you have to use Puralator! More of these vids coming SOON!
I think 16GB is still low RAM if you wanna deal with heavy duty tasks like 3D, Raw , rendering stuff. I would say 64GB minimum but apple likes money and I can easily get a Dell 64GB laptop for less. GPU and RAM is a decision factor for me and I don't care about the rest. That's why I still need to figure out a laptop for editing on the go with simple stuff only. Hard task
Not sure if you saw my most recent video but in it I share what took me a LONG time to realize... video editing is all about decoders. It's why the Apple Silicon chips are so good and why most Windows are not. A lot of the Intel 11th+ Gen chips (with a K on them e.g 14700K) use QuickSync which is their own media engines that will make working with most video codecs MUCH better. I always thought Windows machines were just garbage at video editing, it turns out I just wasn't working with the right footage.
The Max no hesitation IF you want your video editing experience to be smooth as butter. If you don't need it to be super smooth, the M3 Pro is still very capable and will have a better battery. They are both just fantastic but for video editing, the double media engines on the Max chips make a HUGE difference.
Remember to enable the iGPU on the UEFi Firmware (sometimes still called BIOS) to be able to use the CPU iGPU and it's QuickSync encoders and decoders. On some motherboards it may be labeled as a "iGPU Multi Monitor" or similar name. Task Manager should list as a GPU alongside your discrete one if activated.
Oh thanks for the tip! I ordered all the parts and am just waiting on my Samsung 980 Pro 2tb to show up... it arrives on Friday. UGH I have ALL the other components. I suppose I could get building but part of me wants to wait hehehe :)
Thanks for the comment! Glad you found the series 👊 I found it interesting too. I always felt like I had to pick a frame rate and live with that choice, but now, I realize each one has it's own strengths and should be used depending on the story you want to tell.
Right? It really depends on the screens you are watching on, the size of the screen etc... I know a lot of people wonder what they should do but at the end of the day, it doesn't matter THAT much. Each one has it's own strengths and the quality of the content is #1.
I do as much as possible in 4k but I didn't invest in traditional 4k gear, such as DSLRs. Everything is shot on a Samsung S23 Ultra and Insta360. I decided to go 4K for the following reasons: Future proofing, better quality on desktops thanks to the additional 1440 stream that RU-vid kicks out on 4k videos and for those watching my content on 4k TVs. But I agree that good audio, lighting, editing and above all decent content, are all more important than 4K.
Yeah I'm with you there... it's nice to know your evergreen content will still look good years later. Will it ever be watched then? Who knows. But I've had that in the back of my mind also. Thanks for the comment 👊
Yeah to be honest, overheating is the biggest issue with the ZV-E1. MOST of the time since I shoot in short bursts, I never have an issue. But then when I shoot longer for 25+ minutes and it shuts off I roll my eyes every time. The quality is just awesome with the ZV-E1 but I'm not sure I would buy it again for that reason alone. I'm not sure what I'd buy at this stage in 2024 to be honest. I still love mine and prefer it over the ol' a7IV... and it's hard to pay the big bucks for an old A7siii.
Yeah it's hard to disagree with you. I personally watch a lot of RU-vid on big screen TV's so I appreciate the quality myself which is why I try and offer the highest quality possible... but nowadays a lot of gizmos upscale content anyway so it makes 1080p look almost as good anyway!
@@thesahdstudio part of the blame is on tiktok, where people just watch anything in any quality as long is 30sec.. You gotta a good channel here, you deserve more subs
@@TeLometiTo Good call. I mean I guess it's a good reminder that good content outweighs good quality. And thanks for the support! Really appreciate it 👊
Hmmm, interesting. I think this is more a limitation of DaVinci Resolve. Nvidia introduced hardware encoding as far back as the GTX 1080 cards, they're hardware encoding is called NVENC, just look up NVENC support Matrix. In Premiere Pro you have an option to use a Mercury Playback Engine, which specifically supports Nvidia GPU acceleration. Case and point, I use a Titan RTX card and editing is as smooth as silk and, when I added a bunch of RAM, rendering was way faster. So, I don't think you should necessarily discount the hardware to performance correlation. But I imagine you probably don't wanna learn a new editing software so if you found a work around, that's what counts 🙂. Happy computer building, you got a lot of fun ahead of you. Except for wire management, that's really annoying. Friend of mine just did an all white build, looks really nice.
This makes no sense because he changed the subject for each video. You MUST keep the variables limited so that all you are evaluating is the frame rate. The ONLY variable that should be changed is the frame rate. He should do it like this. In short compare apples to apples. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-iVrjwy0foF4.htmlfeature=shared
That's in a 60 frames per second timeline another frame rates won't look natural in that timeline so it has to be in separate videos... Otherwise it's not a true fair test.
Hehe. Yeah Apple stuff sure is nice but you have to pay to play.. well you can't really play Games but you can do everything else well... On battery too!
I think for Talking head videos the A7IV should have a slight Dynamic Range advantage as it has 1/3 more DR in SLOG3. I was hoping to see a SLOG3 comparison on your video
Yeah I was a little limited by my knowledge at the time... I had a bit of a time crunches I couldn't really afford to keep both cameras for too long. But yeah I think the Sony a7iv is just fine for talking heads for most people. It's a very beloved camera for a good reason!
It’s always crazy that any reviewers show laptops speed from tests but not from real use and always with the windows laptops connected to the power. But laptops are made to be run in battery and Mac’s always are consistent.
Yeah Macs battery aren't even a fair fight... Well at least they haven't been. There's some new stuff coming out soon with Snapdragon that looks pretty interesting.
