This looks like your typical made in china set you can find easily on Temu etc. What do you think of this quality? Sharp? Hold the edge? That tool roll looks nice. I started with a set like this and have begun upgrading to Flexcut, some Beavercraft, and I have a Helvee (sp?). I’m not experienced enough to really tell the difference. No idea how you use some of those tools. Most of the various tools I have work as long as you strop frequently….I can definitely feel the difference in a newly stropped tool.
Thanks for your question. Yes, I'm sure these tools were made in China and some of them don't seem to be very useful for the type of carving that I do. Although the factory edge was sharp, some of the tools still had a burr on the edge that needed to be removed and one tool did have a chip in the edge. The steel is OK but does not hold an edge as good as BeaverCraft or Flexcut. The tool roll is actually pretty nice.
Lovely creatures. I am trying them now. Given my age and the camera angles, some steps represented a challenge for me; but I got it. Great tutorial. Grateful to you as always.
Neat idea for a carve! I thought it was like a frankengnome, but was confused why the nose wasn't the same color...it's a Frankenstein hat! Jolly good! Thanks for the content cousin Jack!
Hi Phil! Yes, I use a home made antiquing medium I learned from Chris Hammack - Here's the video - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-KQGPYuOkHIE.htmlsi=s_9iEkl5TsNcbAsI
Nice I'm looking forward to giving them a try!! My better half will love them. She's a halloween nut. Thanks for a great video and your time and talent. Jeff
@@Kris__88 Thanks very much! I just posted a new tutorial today and I have a second channel called Wood Carving Weekly with lots of resources that you might want to check out.
@@whittling no kidding that's you? I just found that channel a couple weeks ago and have been binge watching all episodes lol that's how I found out about Flexcuts new knives, waiting on a set now. Very good info over there!
You know what is funny? I was just watching this thinking how that box cutter blade was good for nothing but getting in the way😂. Then 10 seconds later you changed to your Helvie! I get that it’s an option, but I haven’t used one that I would pick up again except for opening a package. The shape of the blade has meaning!
Hey Tommie! I like that the razor blade is very thin and it has a lot of flex to it because of how thin it is. It has its limitations though. We always need more knives right?🤣
Hi Joe! Thanks for your question. I often decide to modify my original plan while carving. The reason varies due to wood grain direction, how I like the look, or in some cases I think about making the carving easier for a beginner carver. The drawing is just a conceptual idea not a pattern. Happy carving!
I must say I was not seeing how the hand in the pocket with the shirt like that was going to work at first, but wow, it really came together after you rounded it all out! Quite a natural look for a banana man!
Do you need to wear a mask when cutting this foam, I know you can buy also electric cutting tools to do so. This is I have read the dust from the foam due to its contents is extremely bad.
Thanks for your question. Wearing a mask is always an option. I did not wear one because I was carving with hand tools, not rotary tools like a Dremel. If I were using a Dremel I would definitely wear a mask. Happy carving!
Hi Don! Thanks for your question. Sometimes I use a wood burner, sometimes I use an antiquing medium, sometimes I use neither. It just depends on the look I’m going for.
