Another adorable project (and great teaching lesson), Jack. P.S. I’m a fan of Hammack’s turd polish, too but you are a master with it! Dana

Question, I don’t know the size of the block of basswood used, could this be just say carved from a block of 1x1 or 1.5 x1.5 with no saw? I’m new at this so just a question?
@whittling
@whittling 9 месяцев назад
Hi Gary! Yes, this is a variation of the IttyBilly tutorial and it’s carved from a 1x1 block. If you watch the IttyBilly tutorial that will help. The video title says “Gnome Combined With a Hillbilly”. Happy carving!

That’s a 6 millimeter #9 gouge from Dockyard Tools. Happy Carving!

FYI - a gnome has eyes A Nisse does not. Your work is very nice What type of paint are you using?
@whittling
@whittling 2 года назад
Hi Douglas! I’ve never heard of a Nisse. Thanks for the information I need to learn more about this. I use acrylic craft paints and sometimes I apply antiquing medium as a final step.

Why not use a regular carving knife don't like to sharpen your blade as often?
@whittling
@whittling 2 года назад
Hi Moonwolf! I enjoy sharpening, just came in from my garage where I was sharpening some tools. I tend to use a variety of knives. Sometimes I just grab whichever knife is handy. The utility knife has it’s limitations and it can be fun to carve with as well.

What, no glove on your knife hand ? 🤣

Hi Stephen! Good eye, I think this was my first video with just the thumb guard. I’m sure I’ll have the glove back on for my next video. 😄
