Five reasons why US highways are so bad compared to the German autobahnen: 1. Poor construction 2. No maintenance 3. Arbitrary law enforcement or none at all 4. Wicked bad driver training 5. EVERYBODY HAS TO DRIVE! P.S. The word "autobahn" literally means "autoroute" or "motorway".

Military buys and rents our precious housing while they could stay in Military housing which was built with our tax dollars and sit vacant. I just saw a sign at Wheeler saying now Leasing?! So we cannot afford to live in our own aina and because housing prices are driven up by military with tax free benefits, COLA, and housing allowance and we have to live and rent on bases?!
I grew up there late 60s early 70s. Sno King was right out my front window. The Elk refuge was out the back door and across the road. My first job was at a little dude ranch called the trading post. I was 8. I took tourist up in the mountains and had a blast. And got paid $1 for one hour ride$2 for two hours. $5 for the chuck wagon steak ride every Friday all summer. The guy that owned it looked like Hoss Cartwright from bonanza. Huge dude. And fished cutthroat creek every chance we had. Then it really was a paradise. Hardly anyone. Just a small tourist town. Then the news followed Jimmy Carter there for a winter vacation. And then the rest of America discovered Jackson Hole. My childhood paradise. A place I still dream of. Peace.
One of the reasons for the large size is that Denver is one of the only airports in the world that can land three airplanes simultaneously in near zero visibility. You need extra space between runways for that type of operation which is frequent durning Colorado winter storms.
Amsterdam has a population of 918K in 2023 when this video was released, not 822K. And beside that, the metropolitan area has a population of 2,6 million. Served by just one airport, while Paris has two and London has Heathrow, City, Gatwick and smaller ones like Luton, Stansted, Southend.
And, DEN has a train to take between security and the terminals but no way to walk between terminals. When (not if…. WHEN) that train fails, there is no pedestrian tunnel that allows passengers to walk to their gates. The passengers are just stuck where they are. Such a good design.
It’s funny that they built it far away from the city to not bother residents. But generations of Coloradans also made it illegal to build high or mid density housing. The forced the city to spread out so now we have a ton of homes out by the airport and a huge traffic problem because people in the Denver metro made it illegal to build anything except car dependent sprawl
Really neat overview of DIA! I really appreciate your in-depth research and very understandable format. One thing that I was waiting for in the video but missed, specifically the blue horse statue is that it fell over and killed the artist right before it was done, as things could get even crazier.
DEN does not have many international destinations due to negligence of United. Wish Delta was the dominant full service carrier in DEN. Would have seen a lot more international service.
There is nothing more satisfying to me than logistical efficiency and DIA has perfected it. It can handle hundreds of thousands of road vehicles every 24 hours and even during the peak time of day there is seldom a traffic jam in the direct vicinity of the airport itself. The access to each side of the airport is like a gigantic roundabout that replaced its yield signs with 1/2 mile merge lanes and Pena Boulevard connects directly to I-70 and E-470 with ZERO traffic lights or 4 way intersections. It has 3 separate levels the top level is designated to passengers that are being dropped off in a public vehicle, the middle level is designated to all commercial vehicles carrying drop offs and pickups, and the bottom level is for public pickups. It even has a train station below the road vehicle levels that services thousands of passengers daily. DIA as a whole is a logistical masterpiece.
