Imagine how much could get done if Super Rodney, Atanik Armband Carter, Hok'Taur Jonas and Ancient Library O'Neill could get done if they were all working together. Would make the Asgard look like chumps and the Goa'uld look like Neanderthals
Every time I watch this episode I always wondered why he didn’t make ZPMs or the formula to make them. I guess it’s just the plot to not make Atlantis overpowered.
That what I love about Rodney. They took this incredibly petty and arrogant character kept him... mostly the same really but also showed he has the makings of a true hero.
Backdrop: the Ancients built this place as a giant time machine to prevent the fall of their civilisation as the Ori Plague spread across the Milky Way Galaxy. They couldn't get it to work, so they abandoned the attempt and gathered healthy individuals in the city-ship Atlantis for evacuation to the Pegasus Galaxy. This time machine (along with the Dakara Superweapon, which has a similar operating console design) represents the height of their technological achievement before the fall of their empire in the Milky Way.
These guys went from small simple Stargates to these ridiculous Supergates powered by blackholes and using the kawoosh to blow the Ori ships up. Wowza. Too bad so many people died in the name of Ori and Ancients on this side. A war between them involving humans
Yeah... threatening to kill someone as a form of "motivation" to perform = Hallmarks that any "hero" should aspire too and not something that Stargate would make villains do. Trying to be funny and instead coming across as petty, vindictive and a bully. Rodney might be a dick but threatening to poison / murder him is a bit extreme.
A bit late but it technically doesn't, the iris is so close to the event horizon without actually blocking it so that the kawoosh isn't triggered (my headcannon is the kawoosh is intended to open a path on the other side of the gate to prevent what happens when matter tries to go to a gate with an active iris).
I asked David at a convention if McKay was exaggerating the severity of his allergy and he said in real life he's allergic to pineapple himself He said as a kid he'd eat a slice or two and him and his family would laugh at his lips swelling up He said when he left home for the first time he decided to eat a whole pineapple, he ended up in hospital
