If there is one show that I get to recommend to a stranger who knows nothing about Indian Cinema , it will be Pataal Lok . This show was the pinnacle of modern Indian cinema and for me at least it stays unmatched in its brilliant story, writing and direction even today . Thanks for bringing Sudip on the show , Varun . The discussion about reasons behind why we chuckle in theatres on hearing gaalis was very insightful and counter intuitive .
Bollywood should stop calling itself Hindi cinema. Every other cinema in India and abroad is conducted (business around it) in their respective tongue.
I completely agree..."Bambai meri jaan" this to me.. The brilliant sound design just left me shattered.. It kept coming to me... 😢😢😢it was unbearable(not shown n yet not spared pain)
Moral policing really?? People involved in sexual relationship might have different take on this just for lust as love doesnt need pleasure. I didnt watched masaan but grabbed a pov from the conversation that they are trying to subtle 2:33 sexual relation valid. This will ruin marriage structure in india for sure why humans are this much stupid that they even can not learn something after seeing situation in western countries. Put your hand in heart and ask yourself do you want someone who was involved in a deep sexual relationship with someone or you want your sister to be like this to get fuc.. With any lustfilled guy???? Moral policing is important you can call me conservative but this is really bad for us and for upcoming generations.
Now I got my answer as to why the politician wasnt killed in Bhavesh Joshi .. Motwane believes in justice and judiciary .. Anyways he is one of finest film makers in the history of Indian cinema
Actually its alot more than that like why girls are kept away from relationships and one day she is aspired to be a great wife, mother etc, why men need to be a savoir of women, why liberty of women isn't a thing, why she is the weak to hold back, be scared and quit in difficult circumstances? Even is u.s.a. why women are so sexualized, shown just for fun etc why can't be great leaders etc All this patriarchy, fuckin everywhere
I feel overwhelmed that such people are not recognized by all... Movies Mashan,Nh10 are those which I have watched and got an impact on my inner self,,felt like how creative and realistically something can be done that's very rare in bollywood... And of course the songs of Gangs of wasseypur were just mind blowing,I often sing those lines,,,"taar bijali se patle humare piya, teri keh h lunga, yaad teri aayegi mujhko badha satayegi..." So good 🙌✨
When you talk about the depiction of violence, there has to be discourse around violence inflicted upon women and how that is often portrayed without empathy
Everything Shonali Bose said is so touching. Being a Miranda student myself...I can see the Miranda in her so vividly. The three years of my life that shaped my personality and activism so deeply.
Wow this guy has earned so much respect... Every guest has to mention how comfortable or delighted they are to do this with him... I have started looking up to every person named 'Varun' coz of this guy... Ps: never disappointed by Varuns of the/my world yet... 🤞
13:00 I remember as a kid my parents particularly my mum asking me to switch channel when there's a rape scene... With all the innocence once I told my mum it's the heroine so she won't be raped.. Then it was so important for the heroine to be "pure" Now we see male leads being raped... We have come a long way... Thanks to the film maker like you guys...
I genuinely appreciate this show so much! It's high time we discuss the casual sexism in the industry. Be it the lyrics, the stories, the involvement of women behind the scenes there are so many problems that need to be addressed. Absolutely agree with Shonali ma'am her on pov regarding depiction of rape or extreme violence. Great questions as always!
For how much i admire some work of mister grover. I don't think i can watch a conversation where a man starts the intro by saying that i am afraid of masculinity and police. Wth. What has happened to guys yar. Why are they becoming so soft.
brilliant take and something I will and need to keep in mind as i am writing a script right now. we are a horribly cruel sexist country and our disrespect and disregard for feelings of girls becomes clear if we just pay some attention to what we 'do' and not what we say or pose as. I noticed that you have writen long form articles dissecting and praising male actors irrfan and shahrukh being so sensitive and accurate but we have never done that for the female actors even though they are equally brilliant and have lit up our lives without all the emotional padding and comforts that specially bollywood and public gives to men. malayalis really love their heroines & the west also values and celebrates a meryl streep as much as say a daniel day. we are extremely far behind and have a really long way to go. the catharsis after bulbbul really struck me coz it was very real. so looking forward to qala and YOUR acting debut in it varun!!! you look nervous in the trailer though haha
