A brilliant conversation, when I watched NH10 I couldn't believe it, it was a different unusual cinema, its still one of my favourites, today I met the face behind it, lol, I couldn't believe such a charming personality was behind all these unusual pieces of art!

I feel overwhelmed that such people are not recognized by all... Movies Mashan,Nh10 are those which I have watched and got an impact on my inner self,,felt like how creative and realistically something can be done that's very rare in bollywood... And of course the songs of Gangs of wasseypur were just mind blowing,I often sing those lines,,,"taar bijali se patle humare piya, teri keh h lunga, yaad teri aayegi mujhko badha satayegi..." So good 🙌✨

If there is one show that I get to recommend to a stranger who knows nothing about Indian Cinema , it will be Pataal Lok . This show was the pinnacle of modern Indian cinema and for me at least it stays unmatched in its brilliant story, writing and direction even today . Thanks for bringing Sudip on the show , Varun . The discussion about reasons behind why we chuckle in theatres on hearing gaalis was very insightful and counter intuitive .

Why constrain the conversation to singular topic, makes it very limiting . You both are some of best talents Indian screen industry currently have, would love to hear more talk of varied nature. Thanks

Just a suggestion, Varun: you could consider picking specific examples (such as scenes) and then building questions, or nudge your guests to provide more specific examples too! With a little bit of nudging, Sudip could have talked more about how the specific sexual assault scenes in Udta Punjab and Paatal Lok were constructed (with due trigger warning of course). Absolutely loved your interview with Amit Varma on The Seen and the Unseen; please try to aim that as the standard for your interviews! Saying this just because I know because of that podcast episode that your conversations can be a lot more insightful. Much love and appreciation from an aspiring writer and filmmaker.

Hi Varun, just trying to answer your question. There is an other side to not showing violence in art also. If you cannot show violence on screen and if a population cannot watch violence in art then as a community you are destined to face the worst of that violence. I don’t think the discussion should be about whether to portray violence or not but about how to portray violence.

- what I have never come across in Indian cinema is non sexual, purely physical violence against women. In reality, I think it is pre dominantly desexualized violence against women that exist. Isn’t that too a kind of fetishization ?

Sudip Sharma's response to the question about the influence of cinema (on life) made s-o much sense. The guy who shoots someone after watching a film would shoot *anyway*. Also, definitely, if influence on us by cinema was s-o much, w-h-y hasn't the propaganda films influenced us as much as these.

Moral policing really?? People involved in sexual relationship might have different take on this just for lust as love doesnt need pleasure. I didnt watched masaan but grabbed a pov from the conversation that they are trying to subtle 2:33 sexual relation valid. This will ruin marriage structure in india for sure why humans are this much stupid that they even can not learn something after seeing situation in western countries. Put your hand in heart and ask yourself do you want someone who was involved in a deep sexual relationship with someone or you want your sister to be like this to get fuc.. With any lustfilled guy???? Moral policing is important you can call me conservative but this is really bad for us and for upcoming generations.
